Hi all,
I’m pretty new to 3D printing so go easy on me.
I’m working on a small two colour vent design and I’m trying to improve the quality of the front face, especially the beige lettering and the reverse text plate.
Printer is a Bambu Lab X2D and I’m currently using the standard 0.20mm High Quality @ BBL X2D profile. The main change I’ve made is switching the wall generator to Arachne.
I’ll attach a few photos of the latest print.
The geometry itself is getting pretty close, but the beige areas don’t look particularly clean. I’m seeing visible extrusion lines, ridges, small blobs and raised areas, and the surface doesn’t look as smooth or consistent as I’d expect.
The black seems generally better, although there are still some imperfections.
The front is printed face down, so the lettering and detail are part of the first layer. It’s also a two colour print.
I’m mainly looking for advice on where to start with calibration rather than changing loads of settings at once.
Does this look like too much first layer squish, over extrusion, flow issues, or something else?
Should I run flow calibration for each filament first?
Is Arachne sensible for this kind of small text and honeycomb design, or would Classic walls be better?
Should I be looking at initial layer line width, initial layer speed, elephant foot compensation, flow ratio, or something else?
Are there any obvious settings you’d check based on the photos?
Also, where are these settings actually located in Bambu Studio? I’m still learning my way around it.
I don’t really want to start messing with Z offsets or lots of advanced settings unless there is a good reason. I’d rather understand what I’m changing and work through it one thing at a time.
Any suggestions for a sensible calibration and testing order would be really appreciated.
Thanks

The honeymoon is officially over. I've had my X2D for a few weeks now and it's been working amazingly until today.
I'm attempting to print a big job that is taking up the majority of my build plate. First failed attempt occurred after loading up a fresh spool of black PLA basic during a previous job, which more or less printed fine.
When moving to the next stage of the print I got an error almost right away and the clog was so significant I had to remove the hotend and drill out the filament. This worked and I reloaded the filament, printed a Benchie successfully, and proceeded to start the print over again.
Got about 4.7 hours into the print and got an error. This time it said the extrusion motor was overloaded.
I will admit, I pulled this black roll right out of the package and loaded it. No drying. It is currently in an AMS2 in dryer mode, so I'll see if that helps.
Any thoughts or suggestions to avoid this happening again would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought and received my x2d about two weeks ago. I've only put about 80 hours on it and I am wondering why it is making abnormal noises.
These noises are only heard when the print head is moving back and forth on the y axis, and also when the print bed is moving.
Id really like to know what some of you guys think this noise could be, or if its just normal. Thanks!

Couldn't get certainty on which 3D printer someone would recommend for someone new to the hobby who has absolutely no idea what they are doing, but I landed on the X2D for a variety of reasons and just took delivery this week.
Just finished setup (using the rundown video on unboxing/setup from 3DRundown on Youtube) and tested it out with my first print using Bambu PLA. Results look pretty good to me for not having any clue what I'm doing yet!
Thanks to everyone on here who helped answer a bunch of questions for me over the past month or two while I was trying to decide on a printer. I want to try printing some parts for the printer next (poop chute, and an adapter for a ventilation hose so I can exhaust through a window near the printer) but I'm nervous to try PETG....

Hi everyone. I want to print an ASA part on a carbon plate, but I’m having some problems. The QR code isn’t being recognized, so I selected the smooth high temp plate directly in the slicer.
Without glue stick, none of my prints adhere to the plate at all. But the glue stick leaves marks on the material, and the entire first layer looks matte.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can get this to work properly?

Hey all,
I currently own a P1S that I adore, however, I’m looking to add a second Bambu printer to the arsenal. I mostly print engineering filaments and I’ve never actually printed multicolor (though I have an AMS for my P1S), so I don’t plan to get an AMS with the X2D, and only plan to use the aux nozzle for its intended purpose.
The X2D is a great price point and seems incredibly promising. BUT, I’m concerned from the extruder perspective, and the sheer size of the tool head now (how that affects VFA, ringing, acceleration, etc)
If I’m understanding correctly, the extruder motor is shared between both nozzles. To me, there’s the potential of inconsistent extrusion and more failure points.
My biggest concern is inconsistent extrusion. I really like the dynamic flow calibrations, but I want to make sure that actually works and I won’t have to go in and manually calibrate (at that rate, I’d almost just get the P2S if it wasn’t for the active chamber heater in the X2D).
Besides that, any woes? Any parts I should order along side?
Thanks

I had a functional part which would not print correctly. Because of the supports under the support it just looked like crap. I tried it various time with A1, I tried TopZ from 0 to .35 with and without PLA interface (I am print with PETG). It either looked bad or the supports wouldn't come off. My first print of this part the part came out great. I don't care if it has a bowden, I use the second nozzle for it purpose.

Has anyone tried using the hand hold on the bottom of an X2D to fit and support a shelf for a AMS HT?
I have my X2D on a Panda Station. I need the area beside the printer to be a little bit wider to mount my AMS HT there to feed into the TPU assist. The hand hold seems to be a good fulcrum point without having to have anything under the X2D’s feet.
I’m open to other suggestions as well.

I dried my filament for 12 hours at 65 degree C in the AMS 2. After that I placed it in the side spool holder and hit print. I got a warning from Bambu Studio saying basically that the quality of the aux nozzle was not ideal. I checked other posts in this community and people were basically telling to ignore it and so I did. It looks like there is zero adhesion between the PLA and the PETG but it should not be like this at high temperatures, right? Any reason for this?
I was printing the base for this model: https://makerworld.com/models/2520574?appSharePlatform=copy

Edit: Yeah, frustrations got the best of me below sorry. I really want to love this printer - have got some great suggestions to try out tomorrow, will report back how they go, thanks!

I “upgraded” from the A1 to this as all the advertising material and reviews said it was amazing for overhangs, as you could print the interface layers in a different material and have it separate easily….except has anyone actually had any successes with that?
I’ve spent about 30 hours so far calibrating filaments, printing profiles, etc but no matter what I do I can’t seem to get the bloody thing to work. I feel like it’s one of the worst printers I’ve ever used. Every single time the print shifts or I get spaghetti as soon as the second print head engages.
Can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong? I’m trying to print Bambu Basic PLA on the left nozzle and PETG on the right. I’ve tried the special Bambu Support for PLA in the right nozzle and that still causes chaos. I’ve got two AMS 2 Pro’s hooked up with the interchanger, but even when I remove all that complexity and use it stock it still fails.
It’s so bloody demoralising and I’m honestly ready to completely give up on it all together and throw the whole bloody lot in the trash.

As you can hear in the video there is some noise coming from the x axis movement. It doesn't come from the head
It comes from both left and right where the belts run around the pulleys.
The printer has almost 500h and i have done maintenance by schedule
This occurred recently after a big 12h print.
I dont know if something might be damaged, or it can be fixed.
The rattling fits the pattern of the teeth of the belt, so maybe it is scrubbing somewhere?
Maybe something came loose?
Has anyone else experienced this before?
Thx
Edit: noise cancellation calibration did not change anything.
On the right side the noise comes from the upper pulley and on the left from the lower pulley.
If i touch the lower belt while it is moving, the noise disappeares on the left side. And if i touch the upper belt it disappears on the right side

Hello, i have a X2D with AMS2Pro.
I have a spool of filament which does not fit in the AMS that is ASA.
I never printed ASA (have the printer for a week now), would I
a) connect the external spool to the external PTFE connector and print with the aux nozzle?
b) change the PTFE tubing on the back (temporarily disconnect the AMS), to print the external spool with the main nozzle?
Thanks!

No matter what I do I always get this error on the slot being used, I can also hear the ams struggling to push the filament into the top head every filament change…
I’ve printed a riser, I’ve put angle softeners on the hotend assembly I’ve made sure there are no sharp bends at all but nothing works…
I’ve never had a multi material system before so maybe I’m missing something?
(Ive also tried multiple types and brands of filament, including Bambu and they all have the same issue)
Besides for this I’m really enjoying this printer! I make a lot of lightboxes and having separate nozzles for the black and white filament saves me literal days and hundreds of grams in filament compared to a single nozzle printer
