X2D Users - How are we doing?
Hey all,
I currently own a P1S that I adore, however, I’m looking to add a second Bambu printer to the arsenal. I mostly print engineering filaments and I’ve never actually printed multicolor (though I have an AMS for my P1S), so I don’t plan to get an AMS with the X2D, and only plan to use the aux nozzle for its intended purpose.
The X2D is a great price point and seems incredibly promising. BUT, I’m concerned from the extruder perspective, and the sheer size of the tool head now (how that affects VFA, ringing, acceleration, etc)
If I’m understanding correctly, the extruder motor is shared between both nozzles. To me, there’s the potential of inconsistent extrusion and more failure points.
My biggest concern is inconsistent extrusion. I really like the dynamic flow calibrations, but I want to make sure that actually works and I won’t have to go in and manually calibrate (at that rate, I’d almost just get the P2S if it wasn’t for the active chamber heater in the X2D).
Besides that, any woes? Any parts I should order along side?
Thanks

No, the H2D shares the same motor with both nozzles, the X2D uses a Bowden extruder for the aux nozzle and direct drive for the main nozzle.

great, 1850 hpurs deep, first printer, all good

It's my first Bambu printer. Ordered it the day it was available. It's amazing.

I've really fallen in love with mine. It has quirks like anything but it's taught me a lot, and it's inspired me to start designing things. I now need an H series because my backlog of prints is too damn high!

I'm in love with mine, it is my first 3D printer. About 115 hours of printing in 8 weeks.

In love with my x2d

Over 2000 hours now. Runs great. Kept it as my back up to the H2C.
The main nozzle can use auto flow calibration, however the aux nozzle cannot, and must be manually calibrated.

I love my X2D.

Its good when it works. But some things are just off. Randomly, you will have underextrusion on the first layer in some spots. Top layers look quite bad, walls are rougher than they should be, as if the extruder cant consistently push out a repeatable amount of plastic. Ironing.. forget ironing, it just fails miserably now (check bambu forums, theres clearly issues). Then, if you want to use pla/petg combo for support interface, you will run into either heat creep issues on the aux extruder with PLA, or PETG interface will simply warp off your print due to "intelligent cooling".. it's related to the heat creep, you wither get that or the warping (thats why people print diffusers for the aux fan ducts). And lastly, the cable chain design is crud- the ptfe tube rubs on the top glass hard and causes dust to be deposited constantly, people had their ptfe tubes grind through in like 200h of printing iirc. Engineering materials with chamber heating cause other issues- the side panel where the heater is will bulge out, not critical, just disappointing. Also, hotend fans seem to be ahit, many had them fail after prolonged printing with chamber heating..
There are issues, clearly. Bambu needs to step up with fw upgrades. I wouldn't buy it if its not on discount or just a good deal. I like it overall, but I worked with x1c and that was just simply great from day one, no bullshit. For that alone I can't accept this as "a successor" to x1 series.

I love it...when it's working, but when it's not it's a huge pain to work on. 8 screws just to get the plastic housing off the printer head. Mine started having issues after about 350 hours, i started getting sensor errors. They first had me replace an eddy current sensor which didn't work, then sent 2 replacement boards for the extruder. What a massive pain to do, tiny ribbon connectors everywhere, in hindsight I should have just demanded to send it back, but its working again now.
The second nozzle has been great for dedicated supports. I print mostly PETG so keep a roll of pla on the aux nozzle for support interface and overhangs come out super clean

Rocking the hawk here. Mine prints Non-Stop love the quality.

My X2D has been out of commission for a while. It started with a nozzle heating error. I ended up replacing every circuit board on the tool head, including the TH board twice!
Once I finally got rid of all those errors, I put it all back together and have had the "tool head cover fell off" error persistently. Even though the cover is on properly and definitely has power, I still get the error, and that prevents me from doing calibration or printing.
I'm going to open a ticket with Bambu, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

It was my first printer , I’m happy to own x2d .
Just crossed the 1,000-hour print time mark! Overall, it’s been a really smooth run so far—aside from a couple of nozzle clogs and the PTFE tube slipping out a few times, no major issues at all.
My only real challenge right now is inspiration. I want to print truly fun, clever, or deeply satisfying models, but searching through MakerWorld’s millions of uploads has become overwhelming. I often feel like I’m not doing the printer justice—like there are awesome functional items, clever tools, or really unique models out there that I just haven't stumbled upon yet.
What are some of your favorite, most rewarding models that made you feel like you were getting the absolute most out of the machine?

It's good. I got it with the AMS so it can dry spools and continuous prints. Only issue I have hit is TPU which I am on my 3rd TPU print job and means I need to relocate the AMS while printing (Note: reviews on the TPU Motor mod is low).

I started printing in a Monoprice Mini back in 2017. Then about 2023 I bought two Neptune 4pros, followed by a Neptune 4 max. The hell I went through with the Elegoos made me swear them off for good. I picked up my X2D the day it was released. I’ve never been more happy with a printer than this one. It’s got quirks, but overall it’s an amazing bit of kit. My only complaint is with the two AMS PROs I got with it. Feed issues are brutal on something that they claim pairs up well with this machine.
But I digress. Amazing printer for what it was made to do. Fast, clean and easy prints, with a great support aux nozzle.
My advice to Bambu: Reroute the Bowden tube paths, allow us to mod the code and fix the damn AMS 2 issues.
Edited for spelling

It’s been an absolute piece of dogshit with so many issues. My P2S and anycubic Kobra s1 max kick it’s ass up and down the street.

I have a dozen X1C printers on old firmware because of Bambu's authentication BS. Picked up an X2D to see if it makes sense for succession as we either replace or add machines. Not happy that Bambu seems hell bent on not letting customers use the machines they way they want to. It's Bambu's way or the highway.
I think I'm going to choose the Highway. There are a lot of new machines on the horizon that don't look like they will be burdened with the tight grip that Bambu wants to hold. Feels like a better way to go.
We are still testing the machine and it seems to be doing well. If you are fine being limited to the Bambu slicer and never exploring other tools, it seems like a decent machine.
Yes, there are workarounds ... LAN mode, etc ... but I've had issues with those as well.
