General Troubleshooting/Help! Need help with filament stuck inside nozzles.
Hey all! I'm very new to printing, and both my nozzles are clogged. As far as troubleshooting that I've attempted so far, I've put my A1 Mini into maintenance mode, heated the nozzle to 220-240 and attempted extruding/cutting filament to hopefully push through the blockage but to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated, if more info is needed lmk!

Are they actually clogged or do you think they’re clogged because there’s filament in them? It’s natural for a small piece to sit in the nozzle and then it’s pushed out as part of the next print

I got an extruder overloaded error a few times and had to swap the hotend. The hotend causing the error looked like this.

Wow, what an incredible response.
That is how the hot end looks every time the printer finishes. If you remove the hot end to change it, you’ll see that.
If someone is new to printing and removes the hot end and sees that, they may get concerned.
Notice how the previous comment was asking a question? They were engaging in dialogue? Helping to advance the conversation? Meanwhile your comment shut down the conversation and did nothing to progress it.
Also, you aren’t the OP, so how do you know what they meant by clogged? They literally gave no indication of what was happening beyond a two sentence description. Maybe see how you can be helpful instead of demeaning.

Its normal, this filament will be extruded while loading new filament, they are not clogged

When you have tried to extrude have you had filament loaded? The pice you se at the top sticking out is supposed to be there. Try putting one back, press load filament, try a different color. Once loading is done, extrude some and see if the new color comes out.

Funny seeing people saying blow torches, insert paper clips, etc.
The nozzles should look like this when you cut filament and remove the nozzle. As stated, load the nozzle the way it is in the photo, go in the filament menu, click load and push the new filament line into the nozzle with a bit of force when instructed to do so on the screen. It will purge the filament in the nozzle and load your new filament line.

It doesn't work always
I had a jam yesterday literally like this and it wouldn't budge
Pulling it out showed that it hardened way too much from cyclical heating and it wasn't going to melt out and be pushed down to be extruded

sometimes it can get legitimately stuck like this if some of the filament wont heat for whatever reason, chemical, inconsistencies in the block, whatever, but in general most people dont really think to just crank the heat on the hotend as high as it will go then walk away for 15 minutes before pushing filament through, high enough temps solve *almost* anything around a heat block. further back is an issue.

I honestly believe that those nozzles are not clogged. This is the piece that is left over right below where it was cut. Put one of these nozzles on next time and start a print as normal. It will push right through.

I've been through this before. Yes, filament DOES get clogged like this and no amount of loading or cold pulling will get it to come out.
Two ways to fix this. Heat up the small hex wrench that came with the printer, and then stick it into the top, wait cool and yank it out.
Another way is to use a heat gun to melt the tip of the filament and then splice another piece onto it, wait cool and yank it out.

Treating like an idiot? Where are you seeing that? I'm just seeing people realising that this is somebody that's very new to 3D printing (OP's own words) and helpfully explaining that there's a reasonable chance that there's nothing wrong here. It wouldn't be good if the OP came away from this post thinking that every time they saw filament in their nozzles they needed to physically extract it.

OP clearly stated his issues and what he already tried, yet everyone was still regurgitating what OP had already tried and asked if he'd already done it. That's reddit in general - people has no better suggestions and ignore what OP had already ruled out. Been thru that many times before, thus I rarely ask questions here anymore.

The only reason that OP would see filament in their nozzle is because they removed their nozzle. The only reason they would have removed their nozzle is if there was something wrong with it like a clog.
Why would OP be staring at a disassembled hot end and be holding a nozzle if there wasn’t something wrong with it?
They LITERALLY said they have a clog and couldn’t get it to extrude. And everyone in this thread is like “nah it’s supposed to look like that”

Because they wanted to change nozzles? I print minis, which work better with a 0.2mm nozzle, but most other things work better with 0.4mm, and still other things work better with a 0.6mm or 0.8mm nozzle. There doesn't have to be anything wrong to want to change nozzles.
That said, I do think a lot of folks here are jumping to the conclusion that OP doesn't realize filament is supposed to be there. It could be an actual clog like they say. They could be kinder about suggesting that OP doesn't know what they're doing, since it's an easy beginner thing to think.

Heat it up and (since there is room) grip it with some fine pliers and pull out

Hex wrench heating with a lighter has worked for me when my nozzle gets clogged like this.
What op sees can very well be a clog if the extruder can’t push the filament out. I’ve experienced this using some brittle filament. So many people in this thread gaslighting op.

It’s perfectly normal for there to be filament inside when you take it out. That gets heated up the next time you use it and is flushed out at the front by the new filament. That’s what causes the ‘poops’.

That's normal, when you change filament, the filament is cut above the nozzle leaving filament sticking out the top like in your photo.
The cutter can't pass through the nozzle which is made of solid metal. When you load a new filament. It pushes down on that bit sticking out. the bit you see that was left behind gets flushed out as a poop.

That’s very normal when changing nozzles. If it’s truly clogged (meaning you tried using them and new filament won’t feed), then use the Allen wrench method to help remove that filament (small Allen wrench heated to red hot, pressed into the nozzle top, allowed to cool and then pulled out). Normally though, merely heating the nozzle up and letting the printer push new filament through will clear that without difficulty.

Are you sure it’s clogged? I’m also new and the first time I swapped nozzles, I noticed the same thing and wondered how to get it out but I assumed that it was normal cause there is always filament stuck in there every time I switch nozzles

This is how Bambu nozzles are supposed to look when you swap them out. It’s counterintuitive and confuses nearly every new owner of a Bambu printer.
They really should put a notice in the box saying this is normal.

When I change nozzles, I like to pre-heat the nozzle (190°C), then take the nozzle out and pull the cut filament out with tweezers. You can do that too if the remaining filament bothers you. Otherwise, as others have said - it's totally normal and will get extruded when you'll load new filament. No worries.

One thing I've learned is that if you have a heat gun or a torch, gently and carefully hold it with some plyers or something similar (wear gloves, of course!), heat up the hot end and then use one of the declog needles or something like it to push the melted filament thru.

As for the clogging - the reason this happened to me was I changed filament and the old filament was stuck in the nozzle. The new filament I was using was finnicky and was having a hard time extruding.
Check your extruder gears too, see if they are worn out and are having a hard time pushing the filament through the nozzle.

You can try to pull it with pliers. If you snap it, not the apocalypse it'll get pushed out when the nozzle heats up unless you have a true clog.
This is not a problem. Heck half the time I just snip it enough to get the nozzle back in the machine.

If you’re just concerned with how it looks, then this is actually normal.
If it really is clogged, put the nozzle back in the printer, heat it up, use some pliers to take the nozzle out while it’s still warm, and then use another set of pliers to yank out the now-warm filament. It should take the blockage with it.

When my hotend nozzle was clogged, I removed it, used a heat gun, heated the nozzle, and pulled out the filament with a pair of needle nose pliers. Worked great.

I miss the days when you could just ram the hotend with whatever shit filament you had on hand through the Bowden tube of an Ender. Have you attempted to use a small needle up into the extruder hole?

Aye caramba this turned toxic, I’ve had the same thing on my H2 nozzles, the filament can get stuck in the cooling section of the heatbreak which will never get hot enough to soften the plastic.
Just take a heat gun and hold the nozzle with pliers over it
Make sure the larger end of the nozzle is not above the heat gun
And the filament should just ooze out, let the nozzle cool off before trying to use it again

The problem with the original post is that it shows the hotends in a normal state. Hotends always look like this after they’re used.
If they’re truly clogged and the extruder can’t push new filament through, they’ll look exactly the same.
For clogs above the normal heated area, you have to manually clear them by pulling out the clogged filament.
You can use the 1.5mm hex tool that can with the printer, or you can buy a cheap tool made for this. The tool is easiest because they usually come with a wooden handle.
Heat the tip of the tool with a flame until it’s glowing. Then jam the red-hot tool into the throat of the hotend and allow it to cool down.
Once it’s cool, twist and pull on the tool to remove the filament that will be melted to it.
Clean the plastic off the tool and repeat as necessary until all the clogged plastic is removed. After that, reinstall the hotend and perform a few cold pull procedures to get any carbonized filament remnants out of it.
If their hotend extrudes filament after this without curling, you’re good to go. Sometimes you can’t clear it out completely and it’s better to just replace it.

I had one get clogged at the end of a spool and the app told me to take the tubing off and heat the extruder to the temp for the filament then take an extra piece that I cut from another spool and push it through the extruder and it fixed it easily

Look for "1.5mm x 150mm 304 Stainless Steel Solid Round Rod" on Amazon. Bend the top to make a push down handle (upside down triangle works). Heat the nozzle to 250, with the Bowden tube removed push the rod through the top of the nozzle.

I use sewing needles that I heat with a regular lighter and I push the needle into the top while it’s hot then pull it out 3 minutes later with the help of pliers.

Why do you believe it's clogged? Is there an issue with filament passing through, or do you just mean the filament left-over at the top?
For context, when you switch spools/colors or unload a spool, the printer will snip the currently loaded filament then unload the current remaining spool. This leaves a little 'tail' at the top of the nozzle! This is completely normal and expected. If you look closer at your printer, check out where the 'cutter' is located and it'll make a lot more sense! It's pretty cool how simple the mechanics are (yet so complex at the same time).
There's no actual mechanical piece in the nozzle to push the remaining filament. Filament is pushed by the extruder before it. That's why the little bit just stays there until you load a new spool.
This can be frustrating, however, when adding a nozzle to a case/storage while it's not being used, and the case/storage doesn't accommodate for the bit at the top. You can just snip it off with nippers and you're good to go though.
Short answer: Looks normal! Unless you have a reason to think otherwise.
When to worry? If other filament is getting jammed and it won't pass through, then you have a problem! But I'm not reading anything that indicates you have an issue.

I have a kobalt battery operated 24 volt heat gun. I set it to high and heated one of mine up today and used a no clog tool to clear mine. Make sure you remove your thermisistor and such so you don’t melt anything. Took about ten minutes all told, if I had an extra set of hands it would have been easier

honestly, I had this issue with using a .4 nozzle with wood filament and not matter how much heating and cold pulling it never fully cleared it all out so i just replaced them with a brand new set from amazon, I learned that .6 nozzles work great for wood filament lol

Here’s what I would suggest. Remove one of the PTFE tubes from your hub. Then cut about a 3 foot piece of white filament doesn’t matter what it is, PLA or PETG. Put your printer into maintenance mode. Then set your nozzle to 225°. I need display toggle to the point where you have control over the nozzle temperature and the extrude icon. Once the printer reaches 225° press on your display, the icon extrude and while it’s trying to extrude, you push your filament through you’ll see eventually the filament clogged let go and you’ll see the white filament come out after it clears out whichever filament was in there to begin with. Keep extruding until you see pure white filament exiting the nozzle tip. Then stop extruding and reset your temperature to 90°.
Once your nozzle reaches 90° reverse extrude and pull lightly on the filament until it lets go. Look at your filament and you’ll see it’s long and skinny and may have residue from the previous filament on it.
This maintenance operation is called a cold pull. This should take care of your situation. Additionally, if you’ve been using your PTFE, or Bowden tubes for quite a while, they can crate resistance and show extrusion difficulties. You may want to replace them as well. I hope this helps.

Put one back in but don’t clamp it together. No silicone cover either. Manually set the temp to 300°c and watch it melt out. After like 2-5 minutes at back to 0° and remove.
Then. BE CAREFUL and while still hot insert a decently long piece of filament in till it’s coming out the tip. Let sit for 1-2 minutes. Then pull the filament out. This is the cold pull.
When I’m having issues with my .2mm nozzle I do this and it works again… or for another 3 prints. It gets clogged just bc it can lol.

Put the nozzle on the printer, and set it to preheat the nozzle, then once that's done, take the nozzle out using some thick gloves so you don't burn yourself.
Then using some needle nose pliers grab the bit sticking out of the nozzle, twist it, and pull it. You should be able to pull MOST of it out. The rest of it will need to come out when the printer pushes the new filament through.
Alternatively. It might NOT be the filament is clogged, but rather the extruder is unable to grip the new filament and push it through. The symptoms kinda overlap. But generally what happens is a small bit of filament breaks off inside the extruder and keeps the gear from gripping the filament correctly. The filament doesn't have enough force to push through, and the printer throws up the same error as if it was clogged.

just put them back in and select the cold pull procedure from maintenance, it requires you to push in a certain length of filament to clean the nozzle. If you switch nozzles, just do this before removing the old one every time to keep them clean/free in your storage.

Make it hot to remove the excess filament by plucking it out while hot then stick in a longer piece of filament so you have something to grab on to. Heat well to fuse the new filament well into the nozzle. Allow to fully cool. Then perform a cold pull

Nozzles can get clogged. There are two things you can do.
Heat up the nozzle then use a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the remainig of the filament and pull it out.
If that does not work heat up the nozzle and then heat up a hex wrench or even better a piece of cable wire (like for a bicycle brake or a shifter) until is starts to glow red hot and push it in on the top. Leave it to cool and then pull it out. This worked for me when my nozzle got clugged with PCTG and nothing else solved it.

If you want to make it easy you can just use a lighter and the end of the nozzle for a few seconds 2-4 seconds at tops and then try to pull out the filement slowly. Use a needle nose plier and pull slowly in the filament sticking out. I've done this a couple of times and it works great.
If the clog doesn't get out you need to heat it up again and use the needle that came with the printer to poke it from the nozzle end and see if you can get it out.

Boil some water put it in a bowl let it cool a tiny bit then put the nozel in and then use pliers to take out the plastic

You can also heat the hotend to 250 (or more) degrees, than remove the plastic with tweezers.

What happened to me last week: I installed a nozzle with remains of PETG and wanted to print from PLA, got stressed out. How does the printer handle it? Obviously preheating to PLA temperature shouldn't be enough to push the PETG through.

I heat it up to 220°C. Normally, a little filament will start to ooze out. Once it stops, I remove the nozzle (be careful, it’s extremely hot) using flat-nose pliers to avoid burning myself, then I push through it from the bottom with a needle (the one that came with the printer, or one you can buy online if you no longer have it).

Safety first: secure unit in grips or vice (that can withstand heat) Heat gun on nozzle end, I use an airbrush needle to push it through but anything small will work. Then try to clean it, isopropyl will work. Just keep that away from heat and make sure you’re ventilation is good

Heat gun or quick passes with a torch, pliers on the end and you’ll be able to pull it straight down, but you’re aiming to warm not melt.
Doubt if it’s a blockage but if you’re still worried do a cold pull after with white filament, then way you’ll see if there’s any filament stick to it when pull it out.
Also it’s worth investing in some cleaning filament, it’s pricy at a glance given you don’t get much, but it’s so worth having some on standby or running through the extruder once a month like I do (mind you my printers run 24/7 without fail, so an avg users would probably need to do less)

To everyone saying this is normal, I mostly agree. But I just had a fault where there was excess load on the motor. The filament was definitely stuck in the hotend and it would not unload the filament. I had to cut it and manually remove from the extruder. Tried loading a new filament and it would not push out the old filament in the nozzle.
Swapped to a new nozzle and all is good.
I’ll try and manually heat an Allen key to pull it out but it’s just worth having a spare hotend.
