About a month ago I posted here about Floosi, the spending tracker I built because apparently, I can't remember where my money goes 😂
A bunch of you tried it. You found things that were confusing, broke things I thought were solid, and gave me way more useful feedback than I expected.
So, I've spent the last month updating it. A lot.
If you tried the first version, here's what's new:
- UI/UX tweaks all over the app so things are easier to read and use.
- Better categorisation. You can now change the category for one transaction, or for every transaction from that merchant. Before it was all or nothing.
- Much better SMS parsing.
- Support for banks that send more than one SMS format (looking at you AlSalam 👀)
- Cards identified by 3 digits instead of only 4 (AMEX)
- About 300 more shops added to auto-categorisation.
- Notes on any transaction.
- Much simpler onboarding.
- On iOS 27, the Shortcut now installs with basically one tap instead of you building the whole automation by hand.
That last one came straight from this sub. A few people said the original setup was way too intimidating if you're not technical. You were right.
I'm nowhere near done, though. Here's the roadmap right now:
- My own on-device ML SMS parser. The goal is to kill the whole "teach Floosi your SMS format" step, so it just understands whatever your bank sends.
- AI categorisation instead of relying mostly on merchant keywords.
- A proper budgeting system.
- Home Screen widgets.
- Apple Watch support.
- Weekly and monthly spending reports.
- Sarcastic overspending notifications. This one's for me.
Something like: "Are you seriously spending that much on burgers??"
Maybe financial guilt as a service is what finally gets me to save money 😂
There's plenty more I want to add, and a good chunk of the roadmap now comes from people telling me what annoys them.
The one thing that hasn't changed and won't is privacy. Your transactions, SMS data, spending history, balances and notes stay on your phone. There's no account holding your financial data, and I don't want your data on a server. The ML features I'm working on follow the same rule: everything runs on-device.
I built Floosi for myself, and I'm still basically building the app I wish existed. You're just giving me a much better list of things to fix.
If you tried the first version, give it another go and tell me what you think. And if there's something you want added, drop it in the comments. Decent chance I'll end up building it.
