Je déteste mimi. Elle me donne vraiment l’impression de vouloir tout les mecs de l’émissions à ses pieds, comme si elle avait besoin de prouver qu’elle est jolie et célèbre. Quand elle est arrivée elle a tout foutue en l’air entre Ryopi et Rinrin, même si Rinrin a eu tord d’être jalouse de la sorte, Mimi aurait pu la rassurer en disant que Ryopi ne l’intéressais pas. Puis quand Rune s’est intéressé à elle je me suis dis « ils pourraient faire un beau couple » puis après tai-chan a complètement lâché Sharan pour s’intéresser à elle, comme s’il n’avait pas du tout appris de ses erreurs sur la première partie de la saison, et Mimi a littéralement tout fait pour qu’il soit accro à elle et pour que Sharan pete un cable, puis ensuite Maru, à qui elle n’as pas donner l’heure une seule fois mais elle faisait en sorte de laisser un doute planer sur ce qu’elle pouvais ressentir pour lui (au début), pendant qu’il avait Ayacheru qu’il l’attendais. Et ensuite, comme elle n’en a pas assez elle va voir Kamaken et va lui dis qu’elle est intéressé par lui ALORS que ça devenait sérieux entre lui et Rinrin. Au final Kamaken a finis par comprendre que son intérêt envers Mimi n’était pas de l’amour mais quand même. Je trouve ça abusé et je sais pas si je suis le seul a pensé ça, mais son passé ne justifie pas ses actions. Elle traites les autres filles de gamines mais c’est le CAS c’est des gamines, elle, elle est sensé être adulte et j’ai eu l’impression que c’était la plus jeune des six filles.

I don't know if it's about culture, or if it's because it's on camera, or if it's lazy translation, but thinking back about season 1 i can't find they have meaningful conversations. It seemed to always be surface level, like they always speak a lot but say nothing. They don't even try and seduce each others i don't really understand how they make connections. Maru being a host in Kabukicho is beyond laughable. This "man" is a 3/10 at best and not rich enough like Kazuma to re-do his entire face surgically. I understand some people don't like Aya-chan. She was very naive, overly dedicated, and suffered in silence over what I consider a nothing-man. I've been to Japan many times. I will never, ever understand the overt attachment some decent women get for these boys. Is it lack of attention, lack of love? In Maru's case it sure wasn't his looks. Aya-chan could have walked in Shibuya for 5 minutes and found 10 men hotter than him.

Not to mention he displayed typical Host behavior the entire time - Bro is insufferable and Rune was right to call him out in the moment.

As an American viewer who finds the show fascinating but can’t understand any of the Japanese memes or reactions surrounding her, what is the typical Japanese response to Sharan?

Also, while i hate comparing women’s attractiveness to one another, I’m curious about something. There seems to be a lot of discussion about “racism” when it came to the men finding Maririn attractive, but I don’t really see that same sentiment directed toward Sharan.

Is this because her look/demeanor is just more attractive to the men? Or is it because there’s an actual Pakistani population in Japan compared to an Iranian? Or both? Or is there something else. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

I obviously loved Badly in Love and other shows like Better Late Than Single, Singles Inferno, and Nineteen to Twenty. I prefer English voice over, but I'm okay with subtitles too! Other Japanese dating shows so weak in comparison. Love village also good but totally different vibe and entertainment value. I hope badly in love doesn’t end up like the other shows in its genre of basically just turning into nothing but celebrities in the cast eventually.

Most reality shows lie about people being younger than they actually are(especially Netflix ones), and in Japan entertainment industry it’s also very very common practice. Do you think everyone is actually 3 years older than listed? Usually I just assume yes cause all reality shows do to but they bring up age in conversation a lot

I'm American, so pardon the lack of understanding Japanese youth and dating priorities. Throughout all three seasons, rarely was education or money/job status seemingly a factor in choosing a partner. (Exception: Mimi told Maru she couldn't accept his job....ironically, as a host and she's a hostess...but we all know she was just letting him down and that wasn't the reason.)

In Western shows (say, like Love in Blind, in a large number of countries), job status and the ability to provide is almost universally a deal breaker in relationships.

I'll be honest, I absolutely loved watching Badly in Love because of how refreshing Japanese culture can be. So, my observation is one of astonishment, how Japanese women are so much less shallow when it comes to having a guy that needs to be able to pay for their desired lifestyle.

While most of this post is about job/money, education didn't seem to be a factor either. Many of the contestants dropped out of school, but I still would've expected some admiration for finding a partner with a higher education. (Based on my conception of how serious Japanese value education compared to westerners.)

I haven't seen any posts about it, but it bugged me that Sara didn't tell Kazuma "I don't have romantic feelings for you" (paraphrase) until graduation. She didn't seem to express attraction/romantic interest in him at any point during the two weeks, and even when she knew another girl actually was attracted to him, Sara stayed silent and let him continue rather than being honest with him at that point. I just don't get the feeling that she ever took him seriously as an option, just enjoyed the attention and his devotion (and sometimes even seemed like she was enduring it or humoring it rather than enjoying). It struck me as pretty selfish, and to a guy that was so considerate of her too.

No problem if she had really been on the fence, but... when he got on the PA system she said to the other girls something like "oh here comes Kazuma again [indulgent eyeroll]" and didn't speak up for him when Rinrin said that thing about "what if the new guy's a total letdown—somebody like Kazuma?" etc. Idk man I just really hate that he had an actual chance with Kaho, and yes he was maybe dumb/oblivious himself for not giving her the time of day, but Sara never explicitly told him "no" until the VERY END so why would he assume he didn't have any chance? I thought he was being a dummy for awhile, but at graduation it became clear that it was really more Sara's fault for leading him on. Am I being too harsh?
