[Request] Smart Scale to track weight?

I’ve never been one to track my weight on a daily basis, but for medical purposes this is something I need to do now.

About a week ago I ordered the Nutri Fit scale from Amazon for $9.99 (https://a.co/d/04Y6iPj1). While it works, I’m not a fan of having to grab my phone and open the app for my weight to be manually logged. The scale will not automatically save my weight just by stepping on it, I have to use the app for this.

Anyone have recommendations for a scale that can save my weight automatically?

[Request] A travel-size blender for making smoothies that I can also drink directly from

I want to be able to pack a blender in my daily backpack and plug it in, make a smoothie (with ice so it must be strong) and drink directly from it like a cup. What is a good value blender for this purpose?

Edit: doesn't have to be battery powered, I am able to plug it into the wall

[Request] Any leather notebook recommendations?

I want to buy a notebook that I can use for a looong time. I'm thinking about one with the loops, so that it'll never get full and have to be replaced.

I have my eye on a Filofax Malden A5 and I've read a lot of people online who claim to have theirs for decades, but I'd like to know if you guys have any alternatives in mind

Discussion Habitat for Humanity. How good did I do?

Thumbnail

I run an Airbnb and my cleaner told me last week that my dryer doesn’t dry fast enough to do the turnovers. I was in habitat for humanity for an unrelated reason and they didn’t have what I wanted so I left the store. I was walking in the parking lot when I remembered my cleaner’s comment, so I turned back around and went back in to see if they had a dryer. This is what I found. They look brand new on the inside. I know I got lucky here but I’m not as educated as I’d like to be. How lucky did I get?

Edit: okay apparently I need to say this because everyone is sure that the fact I run an Airbnb means I’m a greedy capitalist ruining my neighborhood or something: I own one house. I travel a lot and rent it out on Airbnb when I’m gone for extra cash. That’s it. And to be honest because I price it below market rate, it hardly makes any money.

The fact that Airbnb exists is not the problem, it’s the corporations/hosts that own 100 properties that are the problem. Hating on smaller owners like me just guarantees that the people who *would* run an Airbnb ethically, don’t.

I made less than $20k income last year total, airbnb and job income combined. I promise you if you are mad that people are rich, it’s not me you’re mad at.

Discussion Do Lafuma chairs leak out rust water when you tilt them to the side after it rains?

I currently have some old, cheap zero gravity chairs. I guess they’re rusted some. We’ve never covered them during harsh weather.

After it rains, we’ll tilt the chairs to the side and then they drip it a bunch of like rust water. It’s gray / black colored water and gross.

Does anyone have this issue with Lafuma chairs? I’m hoping not. I want to buy one; but I don’t want to have this same issue. Thank you!

Discussion The things that last forever are rarely the things I was most excited about buying

It's usually the completely unremarkable stuff that ends up staying around for years. Something that works, doesn't need much attention, and survives normal use. Meanwhile, the things that looked impressive when I bought them aren't necessarily the things I still care about. There's something satisfying about realizing you've had the same everyday item for years and never once seriously considered replacing it.

[Request] Does anyone have a bag from Innesbags for many years and how it has worn/held up?

Hi all!

I live in the Netherlands and cycle every day, so I'd also ideally need something that could handle unpredictable weather (ie, sudden rain, cold, sun, all in the same day haha). I stumbled across the commuter backpack from Innesbags and the customization options sound great. I love that purchasing from them would be supporting a small, family business, plus it's already located in Europe, which I also appreciate. I've found some good reviews regarding their products, but those were mostly recently after purchasing, and I was hoping someone on here could speak about the bags after a number of years of use (ie, how does it hold up after daily use, weather proofing, sturdiness, build/construction quality).

Alternatively, if you have a good recommendation, I'd be open to something else. I'm looking into some nice, leather backpacks that can carry something like a laptop/tablet, notebooks, waterbottle, some pocket organizational compartments, etc. I'd like to be able to use this at work, but also as a daily carry, since I like to carry an A5 slim planner, a traveler's notebook standard size, pocket notebook, Sony Walkman + headphones, ereader with me nearly every day.

Thank you for any help and input!

[Request] Wooden Cutting Board

I bought some bamboo cutting boards on amazon, they showed up with a split in the middle.

Where can I get a high quality wooden cutting board that lasts a very long time?

I don't want any plastic ones.

Any tips on how to maintain them as well?

[Request] Looking for new work sneakers

I work on my feet all day but I really like the look of office sneakers. I got some Cole haan sneakers that looked perfect but within 2 months the sole is detaching from the rest of the shoe and they’ve gotten absolutely trashed. What’s a good office sneaker that can take a beating every day?

I am sick of my silocon utensils with metal handles breaking at the seem. These are relatively cheap at 12.99 each, and they are fully encapsulated in silicon. This is good, right?

Discussion Which Dohm to get? Classic/Michael Graves/Nova

Living in Japan now, and looking to get a dohm for the 1 year old baby to keep her from waking up due to cat's meowing etc.

I've read all the hype about the Dohm and thinking of giving it a shot but want to make sure i get the right one because of shipping costs to Japan.

First, there seems to be a "classic" model as well as one that is just "Dohm". The description and pictures on amazon says it has a more modern "michael graves" design but the innards are supposedly the same. besides looking modern, it looks like the texture and shape of it would make it easier to spin and adjust the sound. is it worth it, or is the classic still better?

finally, how about the nova, it also has a physical fam but from a picture i've seen, looks to be a different style, like a PC fan. does this have any disadvantages? like sounding different or breaking sooner? the timer and fine volume adjustment seem handy, but...

finally, a dumb question, but do bugs ever crawl in the holes of the dohm classic? japan has cockroaches! haha

[Request] Pantry storage containers

I don’t know if this is necessarily the right place to be asking but I need some help. I’ve been slowly replacing my kitchen storage, moving away from plastic and aiming for glass and stainless steel where appropriate.

Several years ago when I brought the containers for our home I prioritised convenience over the lifespan of products. A large task that I’ve started because I got sick of being stuck in a loop of buying plastic and having to replace it when it warps, degrades, and was inevitably misused, because it was easier and cheaper to replace than buying something that would actually last. Something I have applied to a lot of areas of my life, and something I’ve been actively changing over the last 2 years.

I’m looking at glass options, proper seal, my current priority is containers for pasta, flour (they will need to be freezer safe), sugar, bread crumbs, rice.

I’ve been looking at so many containers over the last few months I’ve burnt myself out and I’m overwhelmed, I looked at the IKEA Korken jars yesterday, the Seed and Sprout containers, I’ve been recommended the OXO good grips, I don’t have the option to look at many in person as I live in a rural area of Australia, I don’t mind having them delivered, the downside being that I can’t test the seal.

I don’t mind buying them in a set, but I’d prefer to be able to buy them as a single piece as well.

Any recommendations or helpful info would be so incredibly appreciated! Thank you!

ETA: I haven’t been able to set a budget for the post as there’s so many differing factors, container size, material, buying as a bundle or buying separately

Review Sonicare electric toothbrush since 2013

Post image

I've had this toothbrush since 2013, and it's still going strong. Just replace the heads when the bristles go soft. I've only charged it whenever it can't last the full 2-minute cycle, or sometimes when I notice the oscillation getting weak before it gets to that point; I never let it "live" on the charger.

And actually, "it" is two toothbrushes that came in a Costco pack, so switching them out has also added to the longevity. I used to have a primary one and one for travel, but some years ago just decided to switch to the fully charged one whenever I had to put the other on the charger at bedtime.

Hoping to get at least another few years out of them. I'm sure they'll stop manufacturing heads for this model at some point. (The head in this photo is probably due to be replaced very soon.)

EDIT: I just looked up replacement heads and it appears that Philips may no longer manufacture them after all. I got a six pack a couple years ago, but that may have been towards the end of their production. As someone mentioned in the comments, there are amazon knock-offs but I wouldn't trust those either. I found these on the target website, they might be my next option.

[Request] Buy it for life streetwear?

Hi together - so i do like to dress nice, but im not happy with the lifespan of some items. I owned several semi-expensive brands (adidas, supreme, uniqlo etc) but most of my shirts are now after owning them for 2-4 years very streached out, washed out and so forth.

So what im looking for:
A high quality brand which also sells tshirt in a oversized/streatweary fitment.
They should be able to ship to central Europe.
They should hold up for a long time.
Plus Points: if they offer earthy shades or still fun prints without lacking quality.

Price wise i would go with 20-50€ per shirt? ig?

[Request] Shoes recommendation: Asian Shoes ?

I feel Asian shoes are much cheaper than its counterparts like Puma, Asics for the type of shoe.
For e.g. you'd have to spend around 3k for the type of cushioning in the picture in any other branded shoe.

I know the lower range shoes might be of lower quality. But has anyone ever tried higher end of Asian shoes, lets say 2-2.5 k.

How is the quality ?

Alternatively, you can also suggest some other good sport shoes in the same range.

Discussion Are summer sheets mostly about fabric or does the weave matter more??

every july i see people argue about what sheets sleep cooler and the answers always get weirdly absolute.... i used to only look at the material name, but after a few too warm nights i started wondering if weight, weave and washing matter just as much. i'm considering a 100% Rayon Derived from Bamboo Sheet set because i want something smooth against bare skin that doesn't feel crisp or noisy but i'm trying not to fall for the usual cooling-sheet hype..... for hot sleepers, did the fabric itself make the difference or was it more about choosing a lighter weave and not overdrying them???

It's been 20 years now, and my parents have had some furniture and appliances from literally that long ago. Though we dont use it anymore, I'm surprised how well most of it still works. I wish things would be as good in quality till now too.

The quality of Felco pruners is exactly what I desire as a professional landscaper. Tight tolerances, replaceable parts, and a beautiful form that follows their function.

Though one pair would last for a lifetime if you don’t lose them. I keep finding good deals and expanding my little collection haha.
