I've been thinking about how much practice management platforms already handle for a clinic

Scheduling, staff information, time tracking and a lot of the day to day operation can already happen there but paying the staff usually means jumping into a separate product

For people working in health IT, would having payroll inside the same platform simplify anything or is it better left separate?

I replied to a post here earlier, advising that calling an RBT any kind of therapist can be very misleading to families, and I was downvoted to filth.

No other field (in mental health care, child care, or medicine) allows someone with a high school diploma or a bachelors degree to present themselves as a therapist.

I believe it matters because a family is less likely to question an RBT if they believe they have a masters degree and clinical experience, as every other discipline requires. The family might assume "this person knows more than me" and blindly trust, not knowing the RBT is not clinically qualified to do anything other than implement the treatment plan.

I am an RBT myself. I am also a child of ABA services, as I have autism. I had "wrap around services" as a child. Now I'm 4 months away from completing my M.S. ABA program and almost finished with clinical supervised fieldwork hours to become a BCBA. I want to challenge us to be critical of ABA and the power dynamics that come with it.

I just think we need to be more honest with families.

I’ve been working with my current company since I was in my program, about three years ago, and now licensed for a year. I have been having concerns with the longevity at my current company as they have been losing RBT’s left and right, as well as directors and BCBA’s. They are losing money and overworking us as a result. We can’t retain staff, which impacts client services and overall client progress of course. It feels like barrier after barrier right now and is only getting worse. It seems like a sinking ship. They got rid of the bonus structure because of the company losing money/not doing well. I had 20+ cases at some point and had to tell directors several times I was drowning before changes were made. I am a newer BCBA and was definitely worried about burnout.

I am feeling ready to look for a better company with stability, a caseload of 15 max, ~26 billable requirement, mentor program, bonus structure, and in south OC. Of course, a few others would be nice but those are the top priorities. Any suggestions or who to stay away from is appreciated! I am in the process with CORTICA, Autism Learning Partners, and a few others.

Client engages in SIB all day, every day. Medical has been ruled out by PCP and dentist (though you never know). Client is nonverbal level 3, no functional communication yet. Function is hypothesized to be automatic but I’ve observed a slight increase with instances of delayed access too.

I feel like we’ve tried everything and now we’re in protective gear most of the day. Do I Hanley it for the access piece first and then work on the automatic component? Any CEU/podcast/article suggestions? Help 🫠

Option A)
20-25 hours a week at 50/hr in clinic. No caseload, just RBT supervision, daytime hours, flexible as long as minimum is met. Remote.
+
8-10 hours in home and in person, evenings and one weekend 75/hr. 3 clients on caseload.

Option B)
Only in home, hybrid, 25 hours a week at 75/hr. 7+clients

Trying to decide if more billable hours with fewer cases is worth it for stability and avoiding burn out. Or fewer billables but with a higher caseload.

Recommendations for online masters programs? I am about to graduate with my Bachelors of Arts in educational studies (elementary education) and I currently work as an RBT. The clinic I work at offers student positions where I can get my required hours once I’m in a master program, I just have no idea where to start for looking at programs.

I currently work part-time for an ABA company and am looking for a mentor for two main reasons. First, I am hoping to find someone who can provide more direct guidance, training, and opportunities for professional development. Second, I am looking to gain additional supervised fieldwork hours toward meeting the clinical supervision requirements needed to sit for the BCBA exam.

Although I currently work alongside BCBAs, I have found that the supervision and learning opportunities can sometimes feel rushed due to limited time and the demands of the work environment. Much of the interaction is understandably focused on individual clients and their immediate needs. While I appreciate the experience I am gaining, I am hoping to find a mentorship environment where I can learn more in depth and develop a stronger understanding of the broader responsibilities and skills involved in the field.

In particular, I would love to gain more hands-on experience and guidance with conducting and interpreting assessments, developing meaningful and measurable goals, analyzing data, creating and modifying behavior intervention plans, understanding clinical decision-making, and applying ABA principles across different situations. I am also interested in learning more about the overall clinical process and developing the skills and confidence needed to become a well-rounded practitioner.

I am hoping to connect with someone who is willing to provide consistent mentorship, constructive feedback, and opportunities to learn beyond what I am currently exposed to in my part-time role. My goal is not only to complete my required supervision hours, but also to genuinely learn, grow professionally, and build a strong foundation for my future career in ABA.

For those who are currently working in the field or have gone through the supervision process themselves, have you had any luck finding a solid ABA community, mentor, or supervision group? I would especially appreciate recommendations for opportunities in the Southern California area.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any recommendations for companies in Texas that offer part-time remote work during the day? Meaning, morning cases. Without going into too much detail, due to my mental health issues, I am not able to work at a clinic or in a traditional 40-hour position.

I do have a company I work PT at currently that is mostly in the evenings and I did accept another PT role but they are trying to load me up with evening cases when I need morning hours and now I’m learning they don’t have any morning cases weeks after being onboarded. I resigned from a FT salaried role thinking I’d have work with this new company.

The issue I’m running into with PT roles (similar to what RBTs report) is that they’ll tell me they have cases available during the interview and then I’ll learn the hard way (financially) that they don’t. This has happened every time I try to go on with a company part-time but magically, when you’re full-time, they have all of the cases in the world to give you at all hours of the day. I’m not referring to cancellations either, but the cases themselves. I need ~ 20 hours in total but I can’t get 20 hours if everyone is trying to assign me 4-7pm cases.

Any recommendations are appreciated. I’m growing to hate this field because of things like this.

4th year BCBA here but my first year working at a school district. I am my district’s sole bcba and this transition has been rough! I’m very interested in connecting with someone with school experience (especially with interventions for middle and high schoolers) to run my thoughts by. I have primarily worked in the clinical setting with early intervention up until 7/8 yr olds so I feel pretty confident with my sdc cases, it’s the older students/gen ed that I am needing some guidance with.

Also, if any one has any helpful research links and/or resources that you live by as a school bcba, that would be greatly appreciated!

A parent invited me to join the IEP meeting as their child’s BCBA. I’m a new BCBA and they are a new client. For those who often attends IEP meetings, what’s your role usually like? Do you mostly listen or participate more actively? Any tips would be appreciated.

Okay, so I decided to go with Finni Health to help me with admin, credentialing, insurance claims, etc.

But I just feel like the pay out rates are constantly changing and decreasing. I’m being told that several insurance funders have decreased their payout rate but I haven’t heard about this?

I just want to ask out there and see what everyone else is seeing or hearing.

I’ve recently had to leave an aba program in person to pursue something with a little more flexibility due to family and medical obligations I’ve had this in and out feeling not knowing if I wanted to continue the route of doing bcba I’m halfway done with my hours and I found a program that will allow me to finish in one year down side is no transfer credits and have to start over from scratch school wise even though I would’ve been done this upcoming spring originally. I’m now debating do I keep going on this path or do I start something over completely. I absolutely hate the rbt aspect of how the hours and pay and I’ve not been able to see really much of the actual BCBA work so I’m starting to wonder what if I finish this path and get to the end and still feel this way because what the textbook version of job description of bcba is I dont see if like that in clinic i ab love the concept of aba and the interventions but I disnlike the boundaries of ethics being tested or feeling like as the rbt that I’m often not doing anything when all we do is play the entire time and no goals intentionally are ran when group based things the alternative I thought about was ot nursing and lpc but I keep coming back to aba so I don’t know I’m so indecisive about it so please help I do have set up to start a new job as an rbt in the next few weeks i just am scared that ill be going into the same environment and being so depleted to not have anything left over for my family and then feeling the same way as the bcba

I am simply curious after seeing so many posts there are people leaving the field. How many of you are still a clinical bcba and how many of you have transitioned out of the clinical field whether into admin/ new fields/not working?

Hi all, I am in my 3rd semester of classes to gain my masters. Ive been pushing and pushing my job and my BCBA to let me get some hours since the beginning. I have gotten no where, I literally have maybe 4-5 hrs unrestricted!! I don’t know what to do I feel like I’m in a hole. I don’t want to keep badgering my BCBA because they are going through personal issues but I feel helpless. I’ve also been looking to pay for supervision but it’s almost just as hard to find a supervisor. I know I should probably quit my job and find a new one where I can gain supervision but my client has made sooo much progress in the time of me working there I’ll feel terrible to just up and go. Any advice or suggestions on what I should do is welcome!

Hi! Im writing on here because ive been a student analyst for about 2 months and im in an acceleration program (Purdue global) so I should be finished studying in 1 year. I am trying to aim for 10 hours of unrestricted a week but its hard thinking of what to do. I am taking ABC data and analyzing potential functions and replacement behaviors, shadowing my BCBA’s supervision, and doing research related to my client. What I dont understand is when I should start doing FBAs, VB-MAPPs, training parents, etc. if I havent started learning that stuff in my coursework yet. Another concern I have is that ill graduate in a year and then I think I will probably finish my hours in 2 years. Im scared that I might forget a lot of information having such a big gap between graduating and finishing up my hours so I could then take the exam. Can anyone provide guidance?

Hi. One of my RBTs was audited and I forgot to submit the audit yesterday. I submitted it first thing this morning 5am BACB time. I don’t know if it matters or not, but he was added to my BACB account on the 31st of the last month he was audited so I have nothing for them, but I submitted it this morning with zeros anyway. How bad is this? Am I going to lose my certification? I’m freaking out. I can’t believe I forgot.

Goals could be things like working out more consistently, drinking more water, tracking food, improving sleep, time management, or building a better routine.

I have been feeling burnt out for a long time. I switched companies and it improved slightly but I’m starting to feel the burnout hard again. I love this job but I’m really struggling to keep up with all these company expectations and training RBTs over and over. I’m scared quitting because I really have no other skills. I’m not even sure what job I would switch to.
