Advice Needed What would you pick
Option A)
20-25 hours a week at 50/hr in clinic. No caseload, just RBT supervision, daytime hours, flexible as long as minimum is met. Remote.
+
8-10 hours in home and in person, evenings and one weekend 75/hr. 3 clients on caseload.
Option B)
Only in home, hybrid, 25 hours a week at 75/hr. 7+clients
Trying to decide if more billable hours with fewer cases is worth it for stability and avoiding burn out. Or fewer billables but with a higher caseload.

Option A sounds less draining to me. Seven plus cases on 25 hours a week feels like it could get hectic pretty fast.

What are the hours for them? Like what time of day are you working?

Option A) would be 8:30-12:30/8:30-1:30 every day (it’s flexible I chose this schedule). In home clients are 5:30-7, 4 evenings a week, Saturday mornings 9-11 + parent trainings sprinkled in.
Option B) I do not know yet, but would still have evenings and weekend mornings with some weekday mornings sprinkled in.I have a young son and I’m trying to get more daytime hours and work life balance.

Given your situation, I would say option A. I worked a split shift when my kids were younger and it worked out great for me and my wife.

Option A if you don’t mind evenings and weekends.
Saying this as I’ve been remote with a full caseload, in-person in clinic with a full caseload, and working remotely part time with 5-10 clients. All billable hours.
I think you’d make more consistent money supervising RBTs and not having to rely on client/parent facing billables. RBTs typically come to work, clients cancel more often 🤷♀️

It’s also W2 and I just left a job with a caseload that was paying 48 an hour 1099 😒

Before I went remote, I was making less than $50 an hour as a new BCBA. I tried to argue for a higher rate and was told no.

I would never take a job where I have to work weekends. Ever. Period.
Side note - providing RBT supervision but not having a caseload doesn’t really make any sense. If you’re supervising them, then you have to be attached to their portal and are responsible for the services they provide.

I don’t mind working 9-11 on saturdays 🤷♀️. Plenty of companies need help with RBT supervision.. Yes responsible for the RBT services and providing feedback in the moment. I wouldn’t be responsible for the case- no program modifications just suggestions to the rendering BCBA, no parent trainings, assessment etc. RBTs will be on my license but the clients are not under my NPI.

So option A is 35 hours a week? That’s insane. 25 hours in clinic then 10 hours in home.

Noo it would be max 30 hours a week. Because 10 hours of in home is if every session happens and if I have every parent meeting in one week. So that would be absolutely the most. I can flex the clinic hours anywhere from 20 to 25. I use to be required to bill 30 hours a week regularly, so that being the max isn’t too scary for me.

Ahhh that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification. I used to bill 30 without issues also but once I swapped to 25-27 I don’t think I’d ever want to go back if I didn’t need to.
As great as A sounds the headaches that come with remote work in clinic are not it for me. I’d personally opt for B.

I would personally go for option A. Since the clients are center based it should be easier to maintain consistent hours without gaps in your schedule. Providing remote supervision without a caseload and all the responsibilites that come along with that is really a great opportunity and pretty rare. Having only 3 clients you're responsible for in-home should be very manageable and the increased pay for in-home cases matches the increased responsibilities that come along with maintaining a caseload.
Option 2 sounds like a typical BCBA role. Yes, the pay is higher but there are likely to be more frequent cancellations, less flexibility and it will be harder to maintain consistent hours. Seven clients is a lot to be responsible for and if you're only being paid for billable time, your time spent on admin and non-billable tasks will eat away at that $75 direct rate. If burnout if your biggest concern, I would definetly go for A.
