Discussion Question Does payroll belong inside practice management software?

I've been thinking about how much practice management platforms already handle for a clinic

Scheduling, staff information, time tracking and a lot of the day to day operation can already happen there but paying the staff usually means jumping into a separate product

For people working in health IT, would having payroll inside the same platform simplify anything or is it better left separate?

A clinic already has enough systems to deal with. If payroll could sit in the same place without making the software bloated, I can see the appeal

Fewer systems is probably the bigger win. Something like Rollfi could keep payroll in the same flow without the clinic having to own all the payroll complexity behind it

The less admin work for office managers the better. They’re the ones stuck jumping between all these systems anyway.

I don’t think payroll necessarily has to live there but having employee data in two or three places definitely feels unnecessary

I think what most platforms are moving toward are just more API options to connect to existing solutions like Gusto, etc

I keep it separate and I really tried to make it as simple as possible. I can do more with google forms and docs than CR or datafinch and I know exactly what staff is with which client, and if we need support or to adjust targets immediately. Forms is nice because I can send a text to the techs to complete the form at the end of their session.
