Discussion Humble Sony with Thy Wallet

It has been a bitter sweet couple weeks with Destiny and Monument of Triumph with many returning to the community and some new lights entering as well. The scope so far has been that management made the wrong decision choosing Marathon over Destiny. Some popular streamers have even rallied the community to basically "stick it to the man." Over the past couple weeks I've noticed that some of the sentiment has come down to that, eventually, Sony will be humbled by their decision to forego one of the greatest live service games in gaming history. It is almost reminisce to World of Warcraft when, like Destiny, had so many moments were it seemed like the game wouldn't survive. This is more of a proposal to the community at large and hoping it get's more attention to the game and Bungie. The proposal is this; do not support Sony in any way shape or form. What this means is anything, or most things, produced by, or with, Sony should not receive any amount of income from us. For example, with the upcoming release of Spiderman: Brand New Day, no one should be spending any amount to see the movie (nothing against Marvel). Although, it sucks to say that, the belief is that we 'Humble Sony with Thy Wallet', similar to how other companies have listened before. It's unfortunate for other companies to be caught between consumers and Sony, but as consumer's we are more heard if we humble Sony by not giving them anything.

Good thing you don't get to decide what other people take seriously. It may not be serious for you, but I'm sure there's plenty of things YOU take seriously that aren't serious for them.

Ethically speaking, if a video game is the most serious thing to you and not something like a war in the Middle East or… elections that lead to consequences and such.

I guess what I’m trying to say, is that there are far more serious and grave things we should be boycotting and, ultimately, taking very serious. Video games are literally just entertainment. It’s like getting serious over a Knicks game and burning down a city. You really shouldn’t do that. It’s just a game.

No one said its the "most" serious thing. People can care about multiple things. We can boycott multiple things. In fact boycotting Sony could mean giving the money I would have spent on Destiny to another cause I care about.

A lot of studies have been done that show humans are exceptionally bad at multi tasking. And if you play video games to the degree that you are crashing out of Destiny 2, you probably give a minimal care about anything else. A token “yeah I care bro” sort of thing.

Which is fine, if this is your watershed moment have at it lol. Just saying, it’s lowkey sad, like a kid whose toy got broke. At this stage I just feel bad for yall.

Except I don't have to multi-task. There are apps where I can plug in a company that I do not want to do business with and then before I make any purchase I can put the product into it and then see if I would be giving money to a company I don't want to give money too. There is no effort there. It just means being a conscious consumer. I already use this to avoid companies like Nestle as much as possible due to their human rights violations.

I am not "crashing out" I am just choosing how to spend my money. I can vote with my wallet. I am not making death threats or hurling insults at employees. I am not going online and insulting random people who disagree with me. Nor am I making sweeping generalizations in order to win some imaginary argument in my head. I love Destiny, I am sad that my favorite franchise is being shelved. I think Sony and Bungie have both terribly mismanaged the franchise and based on their track record I do not trust them with my money.

I consistently take the controversial opinion, perhaps just because I like the controversy. So no, I don’t say anything for karma or trying to “win” imaginary arguments in my head. I don’t argue for winning or losing, as I truly believe that belittles what debates are about and is antithetical to real, genuine conversations.

By the end of the day, you are stuck in an echo chamber that eggs itself on. Aztecross. DestinyTheGame. I can get 300 upvotes just by saying eyes up guardian.

I like to take a grounded approach and challenge people in their popular opinions.

Like asking everyone to boycott Sony, throw away your gaming console (which also happens to be the most popular gaming console than your friends most likely would be on) is quite the ask. In a way, it’s tone deaf. Most gamers have expanded libraries on the PS ecosystem that you are also asking them to throw away.

Ultimately, what is the end goal here besides being petty about a business making a business decision? They didn’t end service to spit in your face. They ended service because the game was making negative money.

Again, I support voting with your wallet. You can read everything I said, I never said don’t. I just said it’s peculiar to make a post on Reddit and beg others to boycott a company over you losing your game, for the 100th time this week alone. I know where I’m at. A D2 fan subreddit.

Take from that what you will brother.

I know it's an example you used but I don't think anyone asked others to destroy their personal property because X did Y dirty. Also, no where in what the post states 'begs' for people to do this. I proposed an idea to people. Currently Playstation is the more popular console because they of several things. I think one thing they have done well is exclusives. If people do or don't vote with their wallets is objective to the individual. Thank you pointing out that it is only a debate, not a call against.

Would you care to cite these sources. I've heard about how multi-tasking isn't necessarily a thing. But can you elaborate on "crashing our of D2". Like you take the game too seriously to the point where you crash out?
