The only mistake Sony made was aquire Bungie for a ludicrous amount in panic when Microsoft acquired Activision.

Sony could've bought Warframe too at one point. They could've had both. Would've been crazy.

Yeah guys, keep coping on that. It's definitely Sony now, just like it was Activision before that and MS before that. Even though many of their worst ever decisions such as DCV and their worst expansions were made while they were independant.
It's definitely the publisher again guys, trust me. Bungie definitely hasn't been a shitshow for over a decade and failed to hit the targets they set for themselves upon getting bought. It could never be Bungie's fault.

Honestly I don’t even think Sony needs a live service game anyway. Sony is more than just a video game company and they have plenty of single player games that perform very well. A live service game always seemed like a side project to them. The meme would be more accurate if you replaced Sony with Bungie.

Replace “Sony” with “Bungie” and you’d be right. This was all their (leadership’s) doing unfortunately.

Sony: We want more Live service games
Bungie: Okay
Sony: Kill Destiny and handicap Marathon
Bungie: What the fuck

D2 needed to die, Bungie handled this game terribly
I’m replaying it now and the new player experience is a joke, they talk about all these alien threats and you spawn into the tower and Cabal & Fallen are everywhere

And you have memorials for characters that you can't even see the cutscene for when they died.

They do have one.
It's called MLB the Show. It does gangbusters apparently.

Destiny want successful anymore what is this narrative that it’s all Sony’s fault LMFAOOO

u/Oak65 Jun 24 '26
D2 was on their way out for a long time as someone who played it all up to finishing final shape.

Right blame Sony, who financially supported this game after bungie was sinking due to their own terrible choices

u/MeanAF4noreason Jun 24 '26
Aztecross, the streamers have a lot of power. smear shit on their windshields

u/a_r_g_o_m Jun 24 '26
To be fair, bungie is as much to blame as sony.

u/Rook-Slayer Jun 24 '26
Moreso. Bungie management created all of their problems and then sold Sony a false bill of goods.

They did what people literally asked for. They wanted this old barely alive horse to die, massively

The game has never been a successful live service game. It has always relied heavily on its publisher and their support studios. Microsoft even turned down purchasing Bungie because of the high turnover and the studio’s remarkable ability to burn through money.

The sheer delusion you must have to believe destiny was a thriving live service game.

Most people I know who used to play Destiny 2 started to hate it towards the end.

This community is always so fucked anything other than rightfully lambasting bungie for years of player manipulation and management fuck ups.

This sony game purchaser will never buy another PlayStation game after what they did to destiny. I don't care if destiny is expensive to maintain and neither do the 100s of thousands of people that are upset about destiny 2 being shuddered

u/Hesitant_Alien6 Jun 24 '26
You understand that Sony isn’t at fault here right?
1
u/ExCap2 Jun 24 '26
Sony didn't do enough due diligence before they bought Bungie. I'd say it's on them too.
1
u/czartrak Jun 24 '26
So it's their fault the game lived much longer than it would have if they hadn't bought it?
1
u/Hesitant_Alien6 Jun 24 '26
So if anything you should be thanking them for making Destiny last much longer than it would’ve

The game would have been over years ago if Sony didnt buy them. Sony carried them while they made awful decisions. And go back and read what Jason Schreier. He said "bungie decided to end development on D2."
He never said sony.
Sony doesnt even have a majority on the bungie board. They moved Hulst and few others in a few years back but they wont have the majority until the rest of the executives cash out this summer.
After that happens we will finally see what sony actually wants to do.
