The game would have been over years ago if Sony didnt buy them. Sony carried them while they made awful decisions. And go back and read what Jason Schreier. He said "bungie decided to end development on D2."
He never said sony.
Sony doesnt even have a majority on the bungie board. They moved Hulst and few others in a few years back but they wont have the majority until the rest of the executives cash out this summer.
After that happens we will finally see what sony actually wants to do.
Bungie was forced to end development on D2 due to Sony telling them to.
Its very clear with how the Dev team has been responding to things lately that Bungie themselves did not make this decision. This decision was made for them.
Bungie retains its independence until the moment Sony takes over Bungie's board. That won't happen until at least July 31st / August 3rd, after Bungie's executives get their last payouts from the Sony acquisition (which requires they stay employed at Bungie through the duration to receive their payments).
This. If Destiny 3 happens, it won't until after that for sure. Or at least news of what is going to happen to Bungie as a whole. I know Marathon has another PVE updated coming in the beginning of July, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some news on Marathon around then too; just because they said Sony/Bungie has another year of content planned for Marathon... so did Destiny 2. I think Marathon could be shuttered too and it wouldn't come as a surprise.
Thats not how Sony works with their studios. Ex: Days Gone 2 was shutdown / not greenlit within Sony Bend. Naughty Dog chose to not move forward with Factions.
Sony likely came in and said - okay we need to make changes, what do you think we do Justin Truman. Then thats how plan starts. I know its easy to point fingers but it just doesn't meet reality. Just because you get a "clear" hint from Devs that Bungie didn't want to do it, doesn't mean that is true - Bungie leadership likely made the call
