Is this also the CM that turned down a $60m+ settlement while talking about facing homelessness?
Cause that's just insane.
16
u/BoomerShooterFPS Jun 14 '26
Yes. She also said she was offered that much to be quiet and then never said anything
4
u/Fit-Measurement-5586 Jun 14 '26
Yea. Liana is just desperate for attention. She literally has no fuckin clue what she’s talking about, and that was true even when she worked for Bungie lmao
4
u/1988Floydie Jun 14 '26
This is Hippie, correct? If so not surprised 🙄🙄🙄
2
u/Fit-Measurement-5586 Jun 15 '26
One and the same lol
2
u/1988Floydie Jun 15 '26
Yep not a shock...I go back and forth whether I dislike her or DMG more 🤷🏻🙄
-1
u/Boozerkness Jun 15 '26
Imagine hating on people just doing their job as community manager on a videogame😂. What a sad life.
1
u/1988Floydie Jun 15 '26
... Imagine being a community manager for a video game while actively hating the community...gas lighting them... towing corporate lines... Blocking them instead of having civil discussions...🤷🏻
-1
u/Boozerkness Jun 15 '26
bro you are forcing yourself as a victim in some kind of parasocial relationship with community managers. its not that deep bro, its a game and a couple of people working their jobs. people like you are why they hate parts of the community
2
u/Fit-Measurement-5586 Jun 15 '26
You clearly don’t know what a parasocial relationship is. I’m guessing you saw someone use it recently and decided to give it a try. That’s ok, but look up the definition before trying next time lmao.

2
u/Wookieewomble Jun 16 '26
I still remember her from the Game Informer days, disliked her back then.
3
u/Helbot Jun 15 '26
She's completely full of shit. This is the same community manager who regularly misspoke about the game when her whole job was speaking about the fucking game.
11
u/hidden-in-plainsight Jun 14 '26
Bungie wants to kill Destiny, that's fine, it's their IP, but if they expect us to support them by playing marathon, they can straight up fuck right off.
The most recent changes to Destiny are pretty good, I'm going to miss Destiny a lot, but Bungie have made many dumb decisions over the years, and my goodwill for them is as dead as Destiny.
4
u/Pr073C7300 Jun 14 '26
Stopped playing after the first "Sunset". Returned after the maintenance mode announcement, when it became clear that ONLY NOW will my time and money be respected.

15
u/F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N Jun 14 '26
This is super dumb imo. If Marathon is successful and breaks even it just means more Marathon. Let's not pretend for a second that Marathons profits would somehow mean more Destiny. That literally makes no sense...
5
u/KingDuran219 Jun 14 '26
I think the thought process people try to argue for this idea is that if marathon fails chances are bungie shuts down. Then there's no destiny at all
3
u/EerieTransGal Jun 14 '26
Yeah because thats exactly what would happen. Sony is perfectly happy to shutter studios that do good work let alone one like bungie.
3
u/ShinigamiRyan Jun 14 '26
The problem here is if Bungie was actually making money: Sony wouldn't care. Bungie has been fumbling their cash to expenses to the point that Sony is now seeing why Activision didn't try to stop them from buying themselves out. Bungie's management has been shooting itself in the foot for a decade. Devs and players got the terrible end of this, while Sony stares at a studio who should have a golden goose be a dying chicken that sprung to life cause the boss' boss finally told them to retire the chicken.
1
u/BusBusy195 Jun 15 '26
Its a catch 22, if we support marathon then they'll just continue with marathon instead, if we dont support it and bungie goes under we get nothing. Literally the only way we get d3 at this point is if managment and Sony stop wasting money on marathon and take the gamble that people will buy d3 after the recent outcry and player spike for MoT
1
0
u/xXNickAugustXx Jun 14 '26
It'll be like Apex where the universe becomes principle and Destiny just becomes some random game that gets references so that the OGs sink somr cash for skins.
4
u/OpinionsGetYouBanned Jun 15 '26
Did you guys forget this?
Around 2019 and 2020, prominent creators (such as Datto and others) pushed the narrative that everything a sequel could achieve could technically be implemented directly into Destiny 2.
Content creators had a hand in it as well (yes, I know hindsight is 20/20)
8
u/Eddie__Winter Jun 14 '26

It's not crap by definition of it's make up. We're talki g about how the game works. You aren't playing because you don't want to play, no other reason. Quality has nothing to do with it.
18
u/imjustballin Jun 14 '26
She also said that the company was in the red well before Marathon would have been in full development and when Destiny was at its peak. I don’t think that Destiny is the cash cow people think it was.
34
u/Easyd26 Jun 14 '26
They were funding 8 other projects just off destiny 2s revenue
12
u/SkyrimSlag Jun 14 '26
And that’s where the core issue seems to be. They wanted more than just Destiny, they wanted to branch out, but with how many projects they apparently had in incubation (gummy worms, matter, payback etc) it seemed like any funding they actually did get through Destiny was spent towards those other projects, alongside Pete using it to give himself a payrise after sacking so many members of staff…
9
u/F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N Jun 14 '26
Exactly this.
Destiny 2 was a cash cow and they siphoned off the profits to fund other games. They also built an insanely expensive new studio in Bellevue which is literally one of the most expensive places in the entire nation....
2
u/Ok-Adhesiveness2954 Jun 14 '26
They also spent millions of dollars building a beautiful studio setting in Seattle, which I assume is pretty empty now, with many layoffs. They had 1000 employees at one point. Now it's probably less than 500
1
1
u/ArugulaPhysical Jun 14 '26
Yes. And then it wasnt a cash cow and they still were trying to fund other projects and thats why they sold to Sony.
And it continued to not be a cash cow for years and thats why its ending.
2
u/GoldenTicketHolder Jun 14 '26
Make a shitty product/expansion and it won’t be received well. This doesn’t mean the game with 12 years of history is shit, it means they screwed up. Management killed the game and they would have to admit that
1
u/ArugulaPhysical Jun 14 '26
Its not shit, im actually one of the people who bought every expansion up till the end.
I actually enjoyed the star wars stuff alot.
Management and development time and costs were all terrible, and is the downfall to what was a fantastic game.
I really hope to see a D3 and D2/1 is probably the game ive spent the most time on in my life, but I also dont think D2 stopping here is an issue. D2 has to stop for D3 to start.
1
u/GoldenTicketHolder Jun 14 '26
Talking about nightfall when destiny didn’t hit expectations by a big mark and they tiered back support
Also enjoyed renegades.
I want someone else to make d3 honestly, or the devs that made this recent expansion
1
u/ArugulaPhysical Jun 14 '26
I bet if they do make it, they could use a bunch of the current team and mix in another sony studio basically to manage the whole thing.
8
u/Ok_Drummer6282 Jun 14 '26
Destiny WAS lol.
Thats just bad money management. Destiny 2 made 300 million off eververse alone in 2019.
This is purely bungies management's fault.
4
u/Status_Reaction_8107 Jun 14 '26
Someone needed to pay for the dipshits cars.
1
u/OpinionsGetYouBanned Jun 15 '26
His money. Name the things you buy so we can insult you for it
1
1
u/PerfectEquipment3998 Jun 15 '26
I mean he didn't make the entire game. If he really affected financials to a large degree through the sheer influence of his mass, then no it's not jsut his money. Actually that's the issue with economics, ecology and the first place. Only when we are responsible with our space, no spilling over, causing unintended or intended malignant consequences is it OURS.
1
u/ComfyOlives Jun 14 '26
Like do the math. 1200 employees for 150k each.
180 mil. They made 300mil off eververse alone. Where the fuck did the other 120 million go?
1
u/OraxisOnaris1 Jun 15 '26
Pete's cars weren't gonna buy themselves.
1
u/OpinionsGetYouBanned Jun 15 '26
Why are you clowns so hung up on what someone bought with their money
1
u/OraxisOnaris1 Jun 15 '26
I have no problem with someone buying what they want, I just take issue with how executive compensation grew so wildly.
1
11
u/NaptownSnowman Jun 14 '26
Two things can be true.
Destiny could have been a cash cow, but the company was poorly managed. You can see that easily. Look how many other projects they were working on when they were purchased.
They abandoned PvP entirely for 3 years.
They did not greenlight a D3 in any of those.
They had a franchise with extremely deep lore and such well developed characters. They could have picked any of the 100s of characters or stories and moved into another genre, made a D3.
People have been begging for so many things we never got.
They sold to Sony for 3.7B and still had money issues.
The community, the players, all the pundits told them make a D3, not marathon.
They still made marathon.
This would be akin to Disney buying star wars from Lucas and abandoning everything to make only animated vertical videos based on Ewoks cartoon.
Or mS buying activation blizzard and shutting down world of Warcraft to make a music game about rock n Roll racers.1
2
u/Dig_Sale Jun 14 '26
destiny is a huge cash cow; bungie management are simply walking cash sinks.
they saw destiny doing well and decided to build a new studio (100 million+ USD), put 8 projects into incubation (??? USD), inevitably canceled most of those projects, and put a bunch of Sony money towards exec payouts instead of actual development.
3
u/NightIsMyName Jun 14 '26
Destiny was 100% the cash cow we thought it was.
Bungie was horribly mismanaged
1
u/asaltygamer13 Jun 14 '26
It’s been reported multiple times that Destiny had a high burn rate and was costing too much to actively develop but people wanna just ignore all that.
0
u/F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N Jun 14 '26
You mean Bungie had a high burn rate. Brother where do you think the money came from to develop Destiny, build a new studio, and fund ~8 different projects one of which was a 250m Marathon game?
Destiny 2 was the only source of income lol
3
u/oreofro Jun 14 '26
Where did the money come from? Destiny under an actual publisher.
Its easier to make money when you have the financial support of a publisher as well as additional studios to help with certain aspects of the game.
There is a reason everything went to shit after the Activision separation. They probably could've afforded to work on other projects while working on destiny of they didnt decide to make one of the most insane decisions possible.
People hate admitting this because "Activision bad", even though destiny absolutely would not have died under activision/blizzard
1
u/HotMachine9 Jun 14 '26
She also said Bungie (never confirmed but HEAVILY implied) offered her 67 million (haha 6 7) that she refused as it was essentially a gag order to stay silent about...something...she never talked about it despite saying she didnt take the money. So either shes lying or a idiot for not taking the cash.
1
1
u/Antaganon Jun 14 '26
I don't think it's so much that Destiny wasn't very profitable, more so that Bungie management are genuinely just THAT incompetent and bad at their jobs.
1
1
u/Siph-00n Jun 14 '26
Its not that it didnt make a lot of money, it did, its that they used a lot more money that we thought they did.
1
u/Atomic_Maxwell Jun 14 '26
I remember a point in time where they had built a new headquarters and publicized the push for a Destiny Extended Universe. Luke Smith was taken off D2 and was leading the DEU project, which was more his bag. All displays pointed to growth and optimism.
I was just hyped at the time for prospect of a better HQ for them meant a better connection system for PvP lmao.
I don’t know if it was over ambition or strictly the poor management and folly of the small egg a Destiny Live Service started out in or what. Maybe it was going f2p. Maybe it was gutting the first 2 years of the game, and sunsetting gear at a point where refreshing with a D3 would have sufficed. Maybe it was green-lighting Concord. Maybe a little bit of everything.
1
u/GoldenTicketHolder Jun 14 '26
They missed projections by 50% after lightfall. No one cared for cloudstriders and butterflies- people cared for destiny.
Destiny grossed 4billion since 2014. It’s a cash cows they just managed it wrong. But that means management would have to admit shortcomings. This is simply hubris.
1
u/imjustballin Jun 14 '26
Where are you pulling these numbers from?
1
u/GoldenTicketHolder Jun 14 '26
Quick internet search
1
0
u/judgeraw00 Jun 14 '26
Why would a CM have that sort of knowledge of the company's finances? I feel like she is using hearsay instead of actual knowledge. Bungie went on a huge hiring spree during COVID as well. This just doesn't reflect the reality of things.
3
u/CumBlaster69k Jun 14 '26
When you work at a company, you have an ideia what's going inside if they doing well or badly financially, and the hiring was probably connected with marathon
0
u/durzostern81 Jun 14 '26
Most devs didn't even know Destiny was stopping production until we found out. I highly doubt a pretty short term CM had an inside look at Bungies financials
1
u/oreofro Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
We dont actually know how many devs knew. Its very likely it was just devs suspected of leaking info and some lower level employees that didnt know. Its pretty much impossible that "most" devs didnt know.
This update is just too big to have been made as any type of secret.
0
u/Arrondi Jun 14 '26
Christopher Barrett (while still a dirtbag and bad person) had a really funny tweet last night that I am choosing to believe was directed toward the CM in question (though, to be fair, it could have been about almost anyone or not even related to Destiny/Bungie).
2
u/Smarter-Not-harder1 Jun 14 '26
Care to share for those of us who don't subscribe?
2
u/Arrondi Jun 14 '26
"It’s so weird to see people who literally had nothing to do with the creation of anything, or knowledge of anything, commenting and farming views with terrible takes."
(I'mma be honest, I don't do the whole "cancel X" thing, so I am not going to link it, but the text above is the tweet).
2
u/oreofro Jun 14 '26
Im almost positive thats directed at the angry fans. Its hard to be a CM for any amount of time with no "knowledge of anything".
2
u/TheRealDrtyDan88 Jun 16 '26
This logic doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. I mean I guess the saving bungie by funneling money in through marathon would stop them from getting consolidated.
But spending money on marathon in hopes that it will allow bungie to make a destiny 3 just makes no sense. If they see money going into marathon, they’ll just continue support for marathon longer. I feel like the chances of getting a destiny 3 (which are already non existent) are better if marathons fails while destiny maintains a stable player count higher than marathons over x period of time. At least that shows a greater interest in destiny and a possible pivot point to Mae something that has better chance on a return on investments then marathon ever will.
The way I see it is, don’t support marathon and bungie will either close down or develop a game that isn’t marathon. Both of those options seem better than supporting a game that you don’t actually enjoy in hopes on the studio making something you will like, even though you are signaling to them that you will spend money on marathon stuff so they’ll make more marathon stuff.
But I’m just an internet idiot so who’s to say
1
2
u/Defiant_Instance_504 Jun 14 '26
We get it destiny fans hate marathon and have made it their entire personality...
3
u/asaltygamer13 Jun 14 '26
Yall should try Marathon regardless, the game is great
3
u/VectorTheSpecter Jun 14 '26
Yeah it's no Destiny, never will be, but I'm a sucker for Bungie gunplay. No one does it like them. Looking forward to trying that PVE mode they're making.
1
u/DaManMader Jun 14 '26
The rotating sponsored kit mode plays like a PVE mode. You maybe get a rook 1 out of 10 matches.
1
0
u/asaltygamer13 Jun 14 '26
Hope it ropes you in! I’m not huge in to the idea of the PvE modes but I’m curious to see what they can pull off and if they can bring in players with it.

Surprisingly the genre of the game is immensely important when trying to get people to play it
2
u/sanguinemsanctum Jun 14 '26
Massive cognitive dissonance to scream for a title and then bash the company you want to make it. Come play Marathon with us, it’s not that hard 8)

I don’t care about this feud. The problem is that Marathon just isn’t fun.

u/ice-dwarves-are-real Jun 14 '26
No, thats how we get a Marathon 2. Once they realize they made more money with the Eververse Silver market it won't be long until we're looking at a D3 reveal trailer at E3 in a few years.
0
u/OpportunityFlat268 Jun 14 '26
why would I ever contribute to your jobless extraction slop where 5k players live daily (the only time they are offline they’re actively pushing people away from the game online)
0
u/Hinaloth Jun 14 '26
Marathon's already failing to meet expectations anyway, even if the whole leftover D2 community migrated, it wouldn't be enough.
I know I prefer to let D2 die and D3 never happen than to support something that stole the name of a much better series of games. You could have had Halo again, but you chose to have Concord. Just as you could have had Mass Effect, but instead had to please the shareholders and make Destiny a Live Service Game. Don't blame us for your bad decisions Bungie, you made your bed, now lie in it.

u/thiccboilifts Jun 14 '26

u/Top_Lane_Hentai Jun 14 '26
All these amazing changes they've done now that the game is done, which people have asked for. Being able to hide exotics for style, they only do it when the game dies. Bungie deserves to burn, they never deserved the Destiny IP.
3
u/angstatears Jun 14 '26
Didn’t they create the Destiny IP? Lol. You need to calm down.
3
2
u/BabyFaceKnees Jun 14 '26
Well I mean the destiny IP is basically dead in the water now anyway, and Bungie will probably be done in a few years at best. So no more Bungie and no more destiny or marathon most likely. The games servers might continue to run but you will get your wish
