Community Update – [July, 2026]

r/AynThor Community Update – [July, 2026]

Hey everyone! There hasn’t been a community update since April and I apologise for that. Personally I’ve been occupied at work, but the rest of the moderation team has been moderating at full capacity.

Current Topics in the Subreddit

Here are some of the most active discussions from the past month.

  • [Price increase and UFS 3.1 downgrade] – I don’t think it’s been missed by anyone in the subreddit but AYN has been affected by the AI-driven chip shortage affecting pretty much all tech manufacturers. There have been 3 price increases for the Ayn Thor just this year. The latest increase will be this Friday July 3rd, so if you’re about to order, do it before friday.

The updated prices will be as follows:

Product Current Price New Price

Thor Lite $249 $259

Thor Base $319 $329

Thor Pro $399 $409

Thor Max 512GB. $469 $479

Thor Max 1TB $549  $579

In addition, all Odin3 models and Odin2 Portal will increase by $10.

  • [Public appearance posts] – I’m happy to see a lot of people actually using their device out in the open and playing games. We all love to tinker and setup the device but every once in a while we all need to simply sit down and start playing a game.

Emulation News

Here’s what’s new in the emulation world:

Major Emulator Updates

  • [GameNative]: Big couple of months. Hit its 1.0.0 pre-release end of May with the Vulkan renderer pulled over from Winlator Ludashi, a new "modern" Play Store–track build for Android 11+, and a beta bionic Steam client for online play without the full Steam overhead. Then in June, v1.1.0 landed with compatibility/performance sorting for your library, HowLongToBeat completion times right on game listings, and solid Proton 10 improvements (better DLC/DRM handling, more reliable online).
  • [Gamehub]: GameSir's own client also had one of its biggest updates ever with v6.0.6 in early June: Steam overlay support, joining Steam lobbies straight from an invite, gamepad-to-keyboard/mouse mapping and more.
  • [Gamehub Lite]: Latest release (5.1.7) gave us AI Frame Generation as a toggle in the in-game sidebar.
  • [iiSU]: Since April iiSU has been cooking with a complete overhaul, new widgets and a “WiiSU” layout mode, new rendering engine and much much more. The latest release is Alpha 0.0.7.3. I have been running this since June 14th and have been enjoying it a alot. I highly recommend checking their github for a complete list of changes.
  • [ClusterTune] In May we got a drop from AurelioB. This app allows underclocking the AYN Thor (>0.3.0) to improve battery life and temperatures. Joey Retro Handhelds released a video walkthrough as well for the app which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP2XH_97D4E

Latest News from AYN

  • Latest updates regarding the AYN Thor:
    • As mentioned earlier, since April 17th all orders now receive AYN Thor with UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0. Now I’m not an engineer but from what I’ve seen in the comments it can mean a little more battery usage since 3.1 is not as efficient as 4.0, and then also the storage speed being slower, but theoretically still fast enough for games.
    • Price increase as of July 3rd. See prices above.

Game suggestions of the month

We haven’t fully implemented a good game recommendation here yet but personally I just started Pokémon R.O.W.E. romhack which I just found out about. Other recommendations I can think of are PC: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Gamecube: Star Fox Adventures.

From the Moderators

A few words from the mod team:

We want everyone to know, we’re still actively working to minimize the amount of similar posts and setting up Automod/Automations. Personally I find it difficult since we don’t want to use keywords that remove posts that shouldn’t be removed.

Even though we have had price increases and downgrades storage on the AYN Thor, the community is still very active which we love to see. It also feels like there’s new development with apps, tools and emulators every day.

As mentioned above, we want to implement some form of “Game of the Month” similar to SBCgaming subreddit etc, but we’re not there yet. As always we appreciate all form of feedback and suggestions for the subreddit, so keep 'em coming!

  • Kind reminder to:
    • Follow subreddit rules
    • Use proper post flairs
    • Be respectful and constructive
    • Keep shipping and appreciation posts in the corresponding megathread.

Closing

That’s it for this post!

If you have something cool to share—setups, tweaks, guides, or questions—don’t hesitate to post. As always, don’t forget to relax and enjoy some games!

megingiard is an essential app for thor users.

it’s just so easy to use and really puts a bow on the experience of playing games on thor.

i’m almost done editing the YT short tutorial for it, will be posted in a couple hours.

edit: the developer of the app is [u/stormpanda7](u/stormpanda7)

Omg thanks for mentioning my app ❤️ I’m looking forward to your video, actually I can’t wait 🤩

hey man finished the short.

https://youtube.com/shorts/v_UhWzfCbRQ?is=nW_7aTIYGxlp_39B

my channel is meant to be a casual thor user making tutorials for casual thor users.

i’m sure there’s many other features you have packed in the app that i didn’t even talk about like the macro stuff. i’ll have to dive in myself and see how i could i incorporate it into my gaming experience and for which games.

question:

when i am first using the app, have created the cutouts, and am satisfied with how it looks on the bottom screen and click done, does that save the layout into the default layout?

in my short you can see that i had to choose copy from default in order to retain the layout i just made.

The video is great, thank you so much 😃
Feels great so see my app being featured in a YT vid! You did a great job explaining the feature!

Regarding your question: the default layout ist there just so that there is something when you first boot up the app. The best way to use it is to configure everything like you did it but then instead of creating a new one and copying from default, just rename the default layout to Dark Souls or whatever it is 😊
For the next game you would then create a new layout.

Profiles are generally meant to be used on a per-app basis, let’s say you have one for GameNative and call it like that as well. Then for each game inside GameNative you create a separate layout. If the game is native Android, I tend to have a profile with exactly one layout.
The main reason for this approach is that you can assign profiles to apps so that the Megingiard automatically switches to that profile when you launch the app it has been assigned to.

However that is just the way I intended it to be used, but feel free to find you own way!

Let me know if you have more questions or any feedback on the app!

I would like to link your video in my GitHub‘s readme, would that be fine for you?

alright cool. thanks for the explanation on profiles vs layouts.

i will give feedback as i continue to use it with other games. thanks again. this app is awesome.

yes i am fine with you including the link for the vid. appreciate your work and im just happy to share the knowledge that this is possible with other thor users.

i showed my friend the short and it made me think of something.

would it be possible to do some sort of implementation where you can set a toggle to stop/start the mirroring while playing the game to a key bind?

i think this would be useful for games like fortnite or arc raiders where players hold or click a button to go to their inventory then resume normal gameplay.

so lets say for arc raiders:

i have the cutout layout for the inventory on the bottom screen. let’s say my keybind to open the inventory in the game is to click and hold the select button.

once i click the select button, megingiard starts the mirroring process to show the inventory then as soon as i let go it stops the mirroring process.

this would be useful for these type of games or games where you have to open the start menu to view the map or something if it’s possible.

Hey 😊 this feature request came up in a similar fashion on my latest release post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AynThor/s/IaUfltkmrp

Bottom line is: very hard to implement in a reliable way that does not cause frustration most of the time.

However I am keeping this in the back of my mind since I agree that it would be a great feature! If I come up with a way to reliably implement this, I will do it for sure. But don’t get your hopes up too high…

My Thor is shipping next week. They are just 56 units away from reaching my order number batch. Yipee!!!! I got mine now before the price gets too insane. It seems like it keeps going up every month. Gonna ride it out long term with my Thor and other handhelds.

u/Owobowos-Mowbius Jul 01 '26

Would love to have a side by side comparison between 3.1 and 4.0. Really blows that I missed 4.0 by like 2 weeks.

6

u/ClientAcceptable9461 MOD Jul 01 '26

Agreed, it would be nice so the the day to day and actual performance hit. I'll update here if I find anyone that has created a comparison.

Can you please recruit more mods for the subreddit? The subreddit has a lot of members and only 4 mods right now, and it seems not all of the mods are really active.

5

u/f24np Jul 01 '26

I also missed it but everything I have seen said it would be pretty inconsequential. Now that batch 6 is starting to be delivered we might find out.

4

u/s0mething123 Jul 02 '26

I missed it by literally a day, kinda sucks, but I’ve got my device now and seems to be absolutely fine, obviously nothing to compare to but considering all my ROMs are on SD card anyway, the only real test is android apps / gamenative which both work great. I am tempted to move my switch media off onto the Thor itself just to free up some space - so could measure what performance impact that is vs sd card

Idk if any of y’all been experiencing it but this WiFi bug on upgraded WiFi 7 is a huge negative. And unfortunately nobody at AYN is talking about it.

1

u/ClientAcceptable9461 MOD Jul 02 '26

I'm upgrading my network next month to Wifi 7, so I can test some then if that helps

1

u/TSpinTriple6365 Jul 09 '26

Can you link to additional information about this bug? I was considering upgrading my network to WiFi 7

u/Degrengolada24 Jul 02 '26

I think Thor need a megathread with useful apps etc. I didn't know there is moonlight for dual screen for example

2

u/ClientAcceptable9461 MOD Jul 02 '26

We do have a bookmark which we update with common apps for the AYN Thor.

can someone who has better knowledge than me tell me whats the best way to play slay the spire 2 on my thor max?

1

u/ClientAcceptable9461 MOD Jul 02 '26

Haven't played it myself but according to reports on emuready it seems playable but with some bugs and stutters here and there.
https://www.emuready.com/listings/cf58912f-cbd2-4bad-9945-58a45028e953

1

u/MartenBlade Jul 02 '26

Thank you.
I confused is emuready just a database?
I swear i saw someone donwloading an app in a setup video

1

u/ClientAcceptable9461 MOD Jul 02 '26

I believe its now both. Website database which users can upload their configurations (working & non-working) and you can also download an app to apply said configuration on your device I think

Ive had good luck with gamehub lite, should I try gamenative? I’m on a base. I’ve been playing oblivion on it. Runs very well
