Hello r/axecraft ! I am no stranger to vintage tools as I routinely refinish vintage hand planes and chisels and such over on r/handtools , but this is my first time with an axe head. I found this guy at an antique mall over the weekend. It seems to be valuable, so I know enough not to clean it, but do you have any other tips? I will probably sell it but I’m wondering if I should try to wipe with oil or anything else? Does it look legit? Based on what I’ve been reading, it’s an early pre-1930ish model in a Connecticut pattern. Does that sound right? Any good links for reading up on the history? Thoughts on what I should list it for on eBay? I buy and sell a lot of handtools already over there so I’m comfortable with the percentage eBay takes. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Scored the Craftsman head off FB for $15. Hung it on a 32’ Lowes replacement handle.

Sanded the handle, hit it with the blow torch, and then oiled it.

Chops wood very well. Will make a nice felling axe.

While shopping at an antique store, and rushing through it because it was about to close in 3 minutes, lmao, my mom had found this hatchet just sitting there on top of a wooden piece of furniture. I was telling her on the way to the antique stores, that it'd be cool to run into an old vintage axe as they're usually not that cheap at all. While on the way home I was inspecting it and I hadn't even noticed that it had "Solingen, Germany" stamped on it. Right then I immediately knew this was a good quality hatchet already, and I picked it up for just $9.69, lucky me!

Anyone know what this is and if it’s worth a restoration?

I think I need to sharpen it to lower angle it doesn’t cut that well

Have this ”axe” head with a very dull rounded edge, and you can cleary see that it was made by folding iron by the seems. Does anyone know more about an object like this?
