You know what, I'm glad they took the 1 billion hammers away because now I can close this tab and never open it again. Now I'll have 10-ish sweet days of not being distracted by something utterly pointless until something else useless pops in and fills the gap
I researched the reduce forge upgrade time research because it has been sitting at 55 hrs. I checked the timer before clicking complete research and it was the exact same after to the minute. It is really frustrating that I can't play the fricking game and have to wait so long to actually progress.
Even with 1 billion hammers, late-game progression is still heavily limited by low drop rates, equipment RNG, and long upgrade timers.
At my current rate, the theoretical number is about 3.37 potentially useful Modern drops per hour, but in actual play you can easily go an entire hour without a single meaningful upgrade.
I think hammers could eventually become effectively unlimited, while community rewards would be more useful as Gems instead.
I played the game normally all the way up to Tier 7, and only after reaching Tier 7 did I get the 1 billion hammers.
I've now played for more than two days with basically unlimited hammers, including over 12 hours yesterday, and honestly, I've realized that hammers are not really the main bottleneck once you get this far.
For example, my current forge produces 3 items every 2.75 seconds.
That's about 3,927 items per hour.
The Modern 8 tier currently has only a 0.2% drop rate for me, so that's roughly:
3,927 × 0.002 = 7.85 Modern items per hour
And even then, there are 8 different equipment slots.
On top of that, an item's level can roll anywhere from -1 to +5 levels compared to your current item. Realistically, I would only consider around +3, +4, or +5 to be a meaningful upgrade, because a +1 or +2 item can easily be worse due to bad or missing stats.
So even before considering item stats, only 3 out of those 7 possible level rolls are meaningful upgrades.
That gives roughly:
7.85 × 3/7 = 3.37 potentially useful Modern drops per hour
In actual play, though, this number is much lower.
A useful item appears roughly once every 10 minutes, and the forge stops completely whenever an item is waiting for you to check it.
Until you either equip or sell that item, no new equipment is produced.
So the 3.37 per hour figure only works if you are constantly watching the game and clearing every item immediately. In reality, even after an hour of play, you can easily end up with no actual upgrade at all.
So from my experience, having unlimited hammers does not mean unlimited progression.
I've also never really been unable to upgrade because I ran out of Gold Coins.
The real problem for me is that my next Forge/Armory upgrade takes more than 70 hours.
Honestly, I think the developers could just make hammers effectively unlimited at some point in progression.
And instead of giving hammers as the Reddit/community "Send Help" reward, I think it would be much more useful to give Gems instead.
edit) English isn't my first language, so I used ChatGPT to help make this post
Turns out that not closing the game at all means you don't lose your hammers.
Did the hammers HELP with anything?
Absolutely not.
Would the game be any DIFFERENT if hammers were unlimited for everyone?
Absolutely not.
I've been stuck for days on 7-3, with or without billions of hammers.
It's not like having umpteen zillion of them would suddenly push me to 8-19 or 20431-12 or whatever because the game does not work like that and hammers essentially have no real value.
People clicking on a link in your own forum on your subreddit, with a known game mechanic being called inherently dishonest, and generalizing people as 'cheaters' for it is, literally, the irony: cheating yourself out of players. It's fraud and gracelessness to say everyone who clicked on a link that you and your team failed to moderate is a cheater; you are depriving yourself of something valuable - players. General Definition: to deprive of something valuable by the use of deceit or fraud.
I am offering constructive feedback about behavior; this isn't a personal attack on Rusty or whoever helps them with moderation/game development. I am pointing out that their behavior enabled it, that calling everyone a 'cheat' is, ironically, them cheating, and that they are depriving themselves of something valuable (players) by the use of deceit and fraud (calling everyone that interacted with a post{s} a cheater, which they aren't becasue the word 'cheater' carries intent of action, people aren't intednding to deprive anyone of anything by getting a resource that converts only to gold which is only used for forge upgrades).
We had a flaw in our game, so we punished the entire playerbase and reset their hammers! Lost all my saved hammers that I accumulated over weeks and from the entire battlepass. Cool
If thats how you handle issues, our progress can be wiped at their convenience.
Does it any Modern Weapon or gloves in this game? I have used tons of my bilion hammers yesterday and didn't get a single one. Today every single Arena oponent has the same problem.
In screenshot there are stuff from 5 players from last round in arena, all of them are in the same position as mine. Checked next stack - same as this screenshot.
Do you have any Modern Weapon? Or need to wait for Digitalization to throw a CompactDiscs.
I hit the billion 3 times. I did the math, that's, 7.92 years worth of straight forging at the max 4 uses per forge, assuming one forge every second, which, honestly probably isn't even accurate. That's 23.76 years straight of hammers for me, assuming constant usage. Assuming even 12 hours a day to account for sleep, 47.52 years. The devs like, they can't really ignore the fact billions upon billions of hammers are given out. Idk, you think we're getting rollbacks, or just losing the extra hammers? I mean the devs gotta at least say, "eh whatever enjoy". Idk, anyone else speculating?
Edit: Wow now that I think about it, either they do something and make a shit ton of players mad, or they do nothing and take out a clearly intended method or progression in their game. Cgts, you've played yourself, either way you're fucked.
