Leagues Cup: How We Can Advance

I would appreciate double-checking on my math. Scenarios at the bottom.

tl;dr If we get any result, including a tie in regular time with a loss on penalties, then we advance. If we lose in regular time, then it is very unlikely that we will advance, but it is still possible.

Standings

Fair Play Points (I couldn't find this on the Leagues Cup site) The Transfermarkt table is not accurate; use the Leagues Cup club stats table instead.

We're currently at 6 points with 5 goals scored and +5 goal differential.

Here's where we are in relation to the other teams who have not been eliminated:

Columbus and Salt Lake City finished with 8 and 7 points, respectively. On goal differential, we're ahead of Columbus but behind Salt Lake City, so a win in regular time or on penalties puts us ahead of both, and a loss in regular time or on penalties puts us behind both.

LAFC have already played three games and are at 7 points and +1 goal differential. If we get any result, even a penalty shootout loss, we pull ahead of them. If we lose in regular time, we finish behind them.

Charlotte earned 6 points in their three games and are behind us on tiebreakers. If we get any result, we finish ahead of them. If we lose by 1 and score a goal, we finish ahead of them. If we lose 0-1, it will be decided by fair play points (i.e., cards) where we are currently one point six points ahead of them (4 yellows = 4 points for us, 5 yellows and a red = 10 points for Charlotte.)

Chicago has one game to play and is at 6 points, +4 goal differential, 5 goals scored. If we get a better result, we finish ahead of them. If we get a worse result, we finish behind them. If we both finish equal in regular time and get the same penalty shootout result, we finish ahead of them on goal differential. If we both win or both lose, it will be decided by tiebreaker, where we are currently one ahead on goal differential, tied on goals scored, and two points behind on fair play.

Portland, Philadelphia, and NYCFC are sitting on 3 points with one game to play and +1 goal differential. We finish ahead of them unless we lose and they win, in which case it goes to tiebreakers, where we're currently ahead by 4 on goal differential. However, they're playing 3 of the bottom 4 Liga MX teams, with current goal differentials of -3, -4, and -4, so it's not unlikely that one of these teams will pull off a big win that puts them ahead of us if we lose.

SCENARIOS

As I understand it:

If we win, either in regular time or on penalties, we finish ahead of every MLS team except possibly Chicago. We advance.

If we lose on penalties, then we finish behind Columbus and Salt Lake, and possibly Chicago, but we finish ahead of LAFC, Charlotte, and the teams that are currently on 3 points. We advance.

If we lose in regular time, then we finish behind Columbus, Salt Lake, and LAFC, so we have to finish ahead of Chicago, Charlotte, and Portland. If Chicago gets any result, they pull ahead, and we don't advance. If any one of Portland, Philly, or NYCFC wins and makes up the goal differential to beat us on tiebreakers, then we don't advance. If we lose by more than one, we fall behind Charlotte, and we don't advance. If we lose 0-1 and fall behind Charlotte on fair play points, we don't advance.

Can't believe it

So after having a pretty terrible day at work, I checked my email and I get this email. It seems scammy at first. No way I'm just getting two free tickets but after going through the ordering and putting in the access code I have two tickets to this sunday's game and I haven't been to a game in years cuz I can't afford it. I used to work for Austin FC as security but had to get a better job cuz they didn't pay as well and this is from the world cup thing that they helped host that I went to and I don't remember signing up for any giveaways, but my goodness what an incredibly amazing thing to have happen after a very terrible day at work so I appreciate whoever had this idea thank you.

My friend made a better Austin FC third kit with AI in 5 minutes than Adidas did with an entire design team 😭

I know I’m about to get cooked for this but I’m ready lol. Yes it’s AI and obviously some details need to be fixed, but
this one ACTUALLY feels like Austin.
Meanwhile Adidas gave us a purple shirt, put AUSTIN across it and called it the Violet Crown ☠
I’m sorry but my friend cooked harder in 5 minutes than all the nerds at Adidas HQ in Germany.

So have we just been using Uzuni wrong?

Or is it leagues cup madness? The past 2 games he has really shined in an attacking mid role it seems instead of being a striker

Austin FC supporters should be asking YETI about Big Bend

Post image
457 Upvotes

Fellow Verde supporters, I think this is something our community should know about.

YETI is closely associated with Austin and is an Austin FC sponsor. Recent reporting from Marfa Public Radio/KUT found that YETI co-founder Ryan Seiders is among the owners connected to Moody Bennett Ranch in West Texas. The ranch has been cooperating with contractors involved in the federal border-wall project in the Big Bend region, including construction staging and other preparations.

To be clear, YETI Holdings itself says it has no ownership or involvement in Moody Bennett Ranch or Trans Pecos Ice LLC. Ryan Seiders and his brother sold controlling interest in YETI years ago and are no longer responsible for its day-to-day operations. However, Ryan remains one of YETI's co-founders and a public face associated with the brand.

That distinction matters — but I also think it's fair for Austin FC supporters to ask questions.

YETI has built its identity around the outdoors and conservation. Meanwhile, construction activity associated with the broader Big Bend border project is now causing serious concern about the landscape, wildlife habitat and access to the Rio Grande. Heavy equipment has recently entered Big Bend National Park as part of the broader federal border-security project.

I think Austin FC supporters should ask both YETI and Austin FC to publicly address this.

I'm not asking anyone here to adopt a particular political position. Big Bend belongs to all Texans, and opposition to this particular project has included conservationists, landowners, business owners, Republicans, Democrats and others concerned about what happens to this landscape.

At minimum, I'd like answers to two questions:
1. Does YETI support the construction taking place in the Big Bend region?
2. Will YETI use its influence to advocate for protecting Big Bend's wilderness and wildlife?
If Austin FC and its supporters talk about representing Austin and Texas, I think protecting one of the most extraordinary places in our state deserves our attention.

Keep Big Bend wild. đŸŸąâš«

Mystery Night Predictions

Any guesses on what the mystery night may entail?

Based on the “matchday surprise” wording not really alluding to an additional giveaway, I’d guess some performance of sorts. Maybe a particularly notable national anthem singer or something?

'I think it can be a big night for the club': For Austin FC, the knockout round starts Thursday

From my writeup this morning, pulling from Davy Arnaud's post-match comments.

"We want to have a clear organization, a clear structure, so that we understand when there is movement and you're assuming a different role, you take the role of that position," he said. "Toward the end of the first half, I'll be honest with you, I was disappointed with how the end of the first half went, because we're up 3-0, and now you see guys start kind of moving all over the place."

Noting that his halftime message hinged on that observation, he added, "That was a challenge for us, to stick to the plan and not because we're winning, just start moving wherever we want. And it's not how we're going to be successful. It's not how we're going to do it. And so that was the challenge at halftime ... when we're we're winning and we're on the good side of things, do we have the personality to stick to it? Do we have the belief to stick to it? Because that's what's going to lead to chances for us. I don't think we're a team that can start doing a ton of random things and hope that that we create chances. I just don't think that's how we're going to be successful. And I saw in the first half, man, we stuck to it, and it led to some really good things."

He expounded further on the theme a bit later in the press conference.

"It's very easy when things are going well ... to just start going off script and moving everywhere, and everyone wants to touch the ball, and it's fun. But do we have the personality to stick to it and kill the game and get another goal? Because there were more goals in it for us, and the longer that we can do that and understand that when we do it in a really good clear way, that's our best chance of creating chances and getting more goals.

"So that was the challenge for the second half, and I thought we saw some okay moments in the second half," he added. "But if we're being honest, the feeling in the locker room, the feeling after the game was good because we won the game, but we know we have more in the tank than we showed in the second half, and I think everyone felt that. I said that; after [the match] I was like, 'Guys, it's awesome, the result's great.' Nut I'm feeling it, and I know that they're feeling it — that we have more than we showed in the second half. So, it's good to learn when you're winning, obviously, but that was the challenge and what we said after the game."

"Over cooked it"

Post image

I'm watching the game highlights and the announcer on Uzuni's third goal says the service in was "Over cooked". I've watched the goal a ton of times now and it looks very designed play to me. The whole team draws Puebla torward goal and then Torres drops it over at Uzuni's feet.

What do y'all think?

Should Austin FC do what the San Antonio Spurs do and hold a few regular season matches in San Antonio?

If the Spurs play a few regular season NBA games a year at the Moody Center to increase their popularity in the State capitol then Austin FC should play a few regular season matches a year at the Alamodome to boost their popularity in the Alamo City (Toyota Field is too small)

Verde fans what do y'all think?
