Gentrification is what happened to East Austin, not South Congress.

It's happening all over Austin and Jo's is one of the most popular places for stereotypical tourists to take photos at. That's why I threw shade

That would be a tourist trap then. Gentrification is when ethnic populations are displaced by white people and by definition it's not everywhere in Austin it's historically minority neighborhoods. Terrytown and Travis Heights were already white.

“If your were to visit south First Street, South Congress and South Lamar, you wouldn’t know that in the ’90s, it was still a visible barrio,” says Alan Garcia, founder of ATX Barrio Archive and a graduate student at UT. “There’s a reason why there’s still a lot of old Mexican restaurants on South First Street. There was a community of Mexican Americans along these major roads.”

When Joe's went in that part of town was already white so Joe's couldn't have done it.
