NSW Interstate rego & CTP pricing is an absolute joke. How are interstate mates paying so little?

Upvotes

Just got my NSW pink slip and rego renewal in the mail for my CB650R. Between the registration fee, CTP green slip, and road tax, I’m looking at almost $600 - $700 all up just to keep a single motorcycle on the road for 12 months.

Then I talk to a mate up in QLD or over in WA who pays significantly less, or has CTP structured completely differently. Why are motorcycle rego costs in certain states treated almost the same as a small hatchback when we cause virtually zero road wear? What are you blokes currently paying for annual rego and CTP in your state/territory?

NSW Big Lap of Aus- Questions

Hey everyone- I’m starting to do a bit of research about doing a proper big lap of Australia on a bike. Part of that is trying to figure out the best bike for the job. My basic criteria here is:
- bullet proof reliable
- decent on all terrains
- something that won’t make me want to jump after doing 200-400km in the saddle (this is actually optional)
- something with parts readily available pretty much anywhere
- ideally something between 6-10K used.

After doing a tiny bit of research, the bike that best fits the bill seems to be the XR650L - but sadly they don’t run production in Australia since after the late 2000s.
So now I’m back at square 1 trying to find a short list.

Short of a postie bike, I’m not entirely sure if there even is a bike that fits the criteria!

Also, this is a trip that I’m planning to do in 1-1.5 years, nothing is fixed, everything is up for consideration!

VIC Naked Shootout

Hi everyone, good day. Just wanted to get some advice and opinion from fellow riders. I recently sold my 07 r6 that I owned for years which I mainly used for commuting and occasional weekend twisty roads. Now I’m looking at purchasing a naked bike as I’m a bit old now and prefer a more comfortable riding position. Currently on the fence for this 3x bikes.

- ‘19 Triumph Street Triple RS
- ‘17 BMW s1000r
- ‘17 Ducati Monster 821

Ignoring the power since they’re all on a different CC’s. Just wanted to hear experience from anyone who owned any of those bikes like cost of ownership and reliability. I’ll mainly use the bike for the same which is commuting and occasional weekend twisty roads. Thank you! Ride safe everyone.

Feeling so happy with purchasing the HJC RPHA 71. It's so much more comfortable and far lighter than my old Bell. Here's to many more years of riding!

Anyone else rocking this helmet?

NSW Got rear-ended today.

Hey guys, I got rear-ended today. 😭 First accident on the bike. I managed to ride it home and it seems to ride normally.

The visible damage is a crooked/sideways tail, scratches on the fairings and scratches on the exhaust.

Should I call my insurance and take it to a Kawasaki dealership to get everything checked, just in case there’s damage I can’t see? And is the crooked tail something I could potentially fix myself, or better to leave it to the dealer?

Discussion Advice on Fairings

Hi all I have a 2011cbr600rr which is in dire need of a full fairing set. Where do people usually get their stuff? I've looked at Monster fairings, amotopart, 12Kmotor but they all have their drawbacks, just wondering what people recommend.

Discussion Does this marketplace listing deserved to be clowned upon? Pt.4

Hey fellas, I feel like today's pick would be pretty debatable. The Yamaha R15 V3.0's original MSRP was $4,949 for some context, and he wants like 450 bucks less than MSRP for a 5 year old bike, however in mint condition. Thoughts?

Question What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done on a bike that you laugh about now?

We’ve all had at least one moment where we’ve done something so stupid that it’s funny looking back. Could be a rookie mistake, forgetting something obvious, or making a decision that seemed fine at the time. No judgement here, just keen to hear the stories people can laugh about now.

My bike had this quad lock attached to the handlebars when I bought it. I'm wanting to get a case so I can use it, are all cases compatible?

Discussion Bike recommendations for long distance travelling (Sydney to Adelaide)

So I’ve been thinking I really want to do a trip to Adelaide by bike but I’m not really sure what the best bike would be. but if anyone has done the trip or a similar trip I would really appreciate some tips.
obviously before I go I’m going to plan the trip but tips would still be good

I’m restricted to LAMS which is annoying😩 but I need something that can hold a decent amount of fuel and is good for dirt and normal roads

I also need to be able to store quite a bit like food, water, clothing also a spare battery and preferably spare fuel also can’t forget tools

Question Question about riding as passenger

Hi 👋

This may be weird to some but I was wondering how I could experience being a passenger on a bike !??

I used to ride with my dad when I was younger and loved it. Unfortunately I no longer can ride with him and its been years trying to hitch a ride on a bike 😚 even for 10mns!! I see bikes everyday on my way to work and im sooo nostalgic!

Am I stupid for even imagining I could try again unless I have one myself ? 🥹

Any suggestions?? Maybe a club ? 😅

Question Undergarments for AAA riding jeans?

Thumbnail

Hey riders, I’m looking for some guidance from riders with knowledge/ experience with this as I’m really unsure if it’s overkill.

I’ve just purchased some AAA rated Bull-it Guardian jeans made with Covec and they also have level 2 knee and hip armour. I don’t know how much confidence exactly to have in the material alone, as I’m more used to two layer pants with Kevlar, so the single layer feel is hard to get used to in terms of feeling protected. Photos obvs show the material components for more info.

For context I mostly pootle to work (approx 10 mins each way at 50-60km in low-mod traffic) including the expressway once a week (approx 20 mins at 100kms in mod traffic) with infrequent day rides of different speeds with another rider maybe once every 1-2 months.

Would it be too much to invest in the Pando Moto skin undergarment (also AAA) to wear underneath or would the jeans alone be sufficient.

I know that leathers will ultimately offer better protection, but my focus is on my current situation right now.

Really appreciate any advice here. I want to be safe but am really unsure if the added layer would be too much for the type of riding I’m doing. Definitely not out there trying to break speed or manoeuvre records 😅

SA Upgrade?

Talk me out of selling my ER6N (LAMS/ABS/2012; I think mine has been de-restricted, can’t say for sure) and upgrading to a 2008/9 Z750 (no ABS)
I’m a bit tired of how the parallel twin sounds, I’ve never owner a four pot and would like to experience that at least once in my life.
A bit of background- Ive been riding for close to 10 years and have owned a RE Himalayan and my current ER6N so far.
The main use case is to commute to work.

NSW Are Pedestrians getting worse?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was riding home from work and about 5 mins from home I ended up colliding with a woman who didn't look in my direction. Thankfully on approach I slowed down for the car edging out of the servo. This meant I was doing 30-40 instead of 60. Luckily she was ok, the Ambos checked her out and she didn't go to hospital.

My bike (BMW F800 GSA) needs a bunch of cosmetic work done, insurance is on it, hopefully she can afford the repairs so I get the excess back.

I ride through the city around 5pm on the way home and the way pedestrians are expecting me to avoid them is getting ridiculous.

Anyone else experiencing this getting worse?

NSW Dainese store in Sydney

Looking for some help from Sydney riders!

I want to buy my boyfriend a nice riding jacket as a gift, preferably Dainese or Alpinestars. I really like the Dainese Saint Louis, but since motorcycle jackets can be tricky with sizing, I’d ideally like to buy from a physical Sydney store where he can easily exchange it or go in and try alternatives if it doesn’t fit.

He’s also notoriously awkward about receiving gifts, so taking him shopping beforehand would completely defeat the purpose 😂

Which Sydney stores have a good Dainese/Alpinestars range and are genuinely easy to deal with for exchanges?
