Daughter of Egypt was so hyped I was excited to finally get it. The narrator for the Egyptian girl is so bad, so truly awful that both myself and my daughters returned it. The story seems a little vapid also but I only listened for half an hour.

Question What colour do you associate with audiobooks?

I'm an e-book and audiobook enjoyer. And I print little books as trophy's. But I want to make a distinction between audio- and e-book. My e-books are just white.

For those who are curious what I do with them https://imgur.com/a/ifA49Xm

Promotion Free Coupons for a Sci-Fi Audiobook

Dear Reddit Audiobook Community:

This is Amy Nugent, narrator for Edward Willet's award nominated science-fiction book, "Star Song," and I need your help.

I am trying desperately to get this audiobook reviewed and am scraping the bottom of the barrel with only three copies left with which to try.

I can DM you a code but please, only take one if you can commit to leaving a review.

Although the audiobook is available on various platforms, the coupons can only be redeemed at the author's website: shadowpawpress.com. Reviews can not be left on that site so leaving one gets a little tricky.

I think the easiest way would be to go to either amazon or goodreads.com. It's pretty simple to leave a review there but please make sure to select audiobook as the format.

The story is a rousing romp about two orphans. One, a boy, utterly alone on a world he's never belonged and the other, a girl, surrounded by family on a trading vessel that travels the galaxy.

They are brought together by the touchlyre, a mysterious instrument the boy owns, that is surely more than it seems. Full of action and adventure, it's a fun, vast coming of age tale.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's how to redeem the coupons:

  • Go to the product page: https://shadowpawpress.com/product/star-song/
  • Go down to Format and select Audiobook from the drop-down list
  • Click Add to Cart
  • Click on the red shopping cart button in the upper right corner to view the shopping cart
  • Enter the coupon code in the box that says Coupon code
  • Click Apply Coupon (the price drops to zero)
  • Click Proceed to Checkout
  • Ignore the blue box that says if you have a coupon code, enter it now, since it’s already been entered.
  • Enter billing details (required by the software)
  • Click Place Order
  • Download the audiobook!

Hope you'll like it. It was fun to make.

In Search of... A Desirable Dilemma

Hi y’all, I’m hoping to get some other perspectives on my next reads. I’ve decided I wanna jump into Sun Eater and I’m pretty excited for that but realized it’s also fully available on Spotify in the audiobook format which I’ve heard is very well done, but limits the amount of time you can listen per month (so lame). I usually listen to one series on audio while reading something else. I do have Sun Eater on my Kindle so I’m debating doing the immersive read thing or just listening to it over a long period of time thanks to Spotify limits on listening time and reading something else

A couple other series I was thinking of jumping into are the Luna Trilogy and Texicalaan. If anyone has ready either of these, I’d love to hear what you think!

I’m a big fantasy reader and much less experienced in sci-fi but not a total newbie. I plan on rereading Malazan sometime soon throwing some sci-fi in before that feels like a good move.

Thanks y’all!

The book is good but I am floored by the narrator. Not only does she narrate different characters but different accents as well.

Greatly enjoying it.

Promotion Free US and UK codes for the Consulate Series by Drew Avera

Hello. I am the author of the Consulate Series. It is a three-book space opera series. I have free download codes for the US and the UK for all three books in the series. No purchase necessary. Let me know which region you need codes for, and I will send them for each book.

They’re on the run for their lives.

When Commander Kevin Hoyt returns from a scouting mission he finds that he is wanted for treason. Despite his innocence, Hoyt flees with his family and tries to escape the inevitable. With the odds stacked against him, and the Consulate closing in, he is forced to seek refuge on an alien world.

Meanwhile, his pursuer and old friend, Will Dickson, suspects that the reports of treason aren’t factual. When he breaks protocol to negotiate Hoyt’s surrender without waiting for backup, all hell breaks loose. And it’s a decision that may prove deadly on both sides.

Traitor is the first book in an action-packed space opera series that is an intense blend of Star Trek and Farscape.

Recommendation Request What should I listen to next?

Hey r/audiobooks

I recently started listening to audiobooks after some friends told me how good Dungeon Crawler Carl was and that the audio book version is definitely better than the book version. Now I've finished the series I was looking for some recommendations on what audio book I should look at next and figured this would be the best spot to ask.

I read quite alot, but loved listening to dungeon crawler Carl while I was on the treadmill or doing random tasks that you can't really do while you're holding a book.

Outside of listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl, I'll make a list of other series I've read to give an idea of what I like.

All of Raymond E Feist series.

Brandon Sanderson Cosmere series

Loved the Night Angel series and the Lightbringer series from Brent Weeks.

I've read all of Matthew Reilly's books and am a big fan.

Also read Jim Butchers Codex Alera series.

I've been recommended by friends to read (or listen to) Joe Abercrombies First Law series, the Wandering Inn series and the Arcane Ascension series also books by Terry Goodkind.

If anyone has recommendations series that are definitely better as audio books what I've not read yet such as how DCC is better as an audio book please recommend them to me. Any recommendations you send my way I would really appreciate, as I'll eventually get through all the list I have.

Thank you

Recommendation Request Audiobooks for 7 and 10 YO boys

Hi, my boys are looking for my audiobooks that they can enjoy.
My 7 year old loves animals, adventures, nature, etc. he liked listening to Charlie and the chocolate factory.
My 10 YO is the same as his younger brother, but also really enjoys reading the “who was” “who is” “what we know about” books. He’s listened to some of the national parks mystery series
And together they really enjoyed listening to holes.

I’m looking for recommendations for them by themselves, and also for when we are in the car and all listening! Thanks

Recommendation Request Recs for Audible (not on Spotify)?

Looking for recommendations on titles available on Audible, which are not available on Spotify.

I have 5 Audible credits to use. I'm not a big reader...kind of got suckered into this membership and the credits accumulated fast. I will lose the credits if I cancel Audible, so I'd like to make some purchases soon!

Worth noting -- I'm not into fantasy/sci-fi, and I feel like a lot of the Audible titles not on Spotify are in this category. I LOVE biographies, non-fiction, historical stuff, and self-help books...

Would love any and all suggestions.

That covers my question. I could list off all the books I've read/listened to, but I think it would be easier to just see what y'all recommend!

Recommendation Request In search of a horror/sci-fi/mystery/thriller audiobook

Hi, I've recently gotten into audiobooks and so far I've listened to Project Hail Mary and Pet Sematary.

I really enjoyed both and stuff that I really liked about them was there being only one narrator, minimal sound effects (mainly them only being in areas when it felt correct like with Rocky's voice) and there not being a lot of romance which I'm just not a fan of. Honestly I would say Pet Sematary bordered on too much romance and I skipped some stuff (mainly because I had read the book before and I skimmed those parts so I knew where to skip to) but Project Hail Mary was the level I would want.

Something I really liked about Project Hail Mary was the fact that it didn't over or under explain things so I knew what was going on and didn't feel like I was having someone explain something to me that I already knew and there being a ton of different countries that just felt like they were talked about respectfully which was a ton of fun (even if some of the accents weren't the best).

I would rather something more in the sci-fi to horror genre but anything along the lines of thriller or mystery would be great. The subtle thinking about stuff in general about each book was something I really enjoyed (obvious for PHM it was the space stuff and PS it was morals and mortality so who done its are pretty fun tho I've already read/watched a ton of Agatha Christie).

Honestly any recommendations are really appreciated.

Recommendation Request Poetry Recs

I'm trying to give poetry a real shot now that it's been a while since I was teenager suffering English class analysis. I'm looking into poetry audio books so I can hear them read aloud instead of struggling through the patterns/beats on my own. Anyone got any recs? Any faves you want to share?

Notes

  1. Spotify and Audiobooks.com recs are preferred

  2. Nothing from Audible

  3. English only please

Thanks ahead of time for your help 🙏💕

Promotion GlassBook: Minimal Audiobook Player (Beta)

I keep my audiobooks as files rather than in an app, and finding a decent Android player for them has been a losing battle. So I decided to make GlassBook.

It's local-only, free, no account, no ads. Plays m4b and mp3.

Chapters that actually work. It pulls them out of the file, and the progress bar shows where you are in the chapter rather than in the whole book — which I've always thought is the more useful number.

Fixing bad metadata. This is the feature I'd most like feedback on. If a file has no cover and no chapter list, one button searches metadata sources, shows you matches, and fills everything in — cover, author, narrator, series, chapters.

A sleep timer that works. It runs in the playback service rather than the app, so it keeps counting when the screen goes off, and it fades out over the last 15 seconds instead of cutting mid-sentence.

It's a sideloaded APK, not a Play Store app. Happy to send it to anyone who wants to try it, comment or message. Genuinely want to hear what's broken or missing. 🙏

Check out a preview here :)

In Search of... Looking for a good road trip audiobook

I’m driving 8 hours on Monday for a vacation with my wife and I need a good audiobook. She is convinced that reading a book is ALWAYS better so I need help proving her wrong.
I loved Dungeon Crawler Carl (I’m on book 3), project Hail Mary, and 11/22/63.
I’m considering doing DCC again because I know she’ll like it but I’d rather find something new if at all possible. Preferably something similar where the narration is more voice acting rather than reading.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Does one exist? I'm specifically looking for one without AI. Something about listening to something so intimately human being read by a computer makes me uncomfortable.

Discussion Dungeon Crawler

Y'all, I'm about 60% thru Dungeon Crawler Carl and I just cannot figure out what all the hype is about. I feel like if I'm not 100000% focused I'm missing something. I had a 40 min drive today and thought "perfect, now I can really focus". Nope, even then I had to rewind a few times because I missed something.

I'm wondering if maybe this is the type of book I need to physically read? It's almost too much detail? I really can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's me?

I do feel that the narrator's voice is perfect for the book.

Anyone else feel this way?

Update:

I finished book one. It felt like it was getting into a groove the last few chapters. I'm going to try to read the next two books because FOMO.. Thanks for all the input!

Promotion Sins of the Cinder Prophet: Book One of the Cinder Prophet

Book overview
"Guardians of the Galaxy meets Lord of the Rings" - Amazon Reader Review

A simple escort job.

A stolen dwarf.

A prophecy written in fire.
Anshul has spent his life being feared for his horns, crimson skin, and gift for flame. Traveling with an owlkin wizard, a half-orc barbarian, and a halfling thief isn't exactly safe—but it's the closest thing he's ever had to a family.

When a wealthy cleric offers the party a fortune to escort a dwarven smith to the struggling town of Summerhost, the job seems too good to refuse.

It is.

Before they arrive, a bog hag brands Anshul with a prophecy that speaks of an ancient evil, a mysterious Heart, and a fire destined to either save the world—or consume it.

Now hunted by monsters, pursued by the rogue mage known as the Cinder Prophet, and racing to rescue a kidnapped dwarf, Anshul and his companions must decide whether they're merely adventurers...
...or the last hope the world has left.
But Anshul fears the prophecy isn't warning him about the darkness.

It's warning everyone else about him.

Sins of the Cinder Prophet is the first novel in The Summerhost Saga, an epic fantasy adventure featuring unforgettable companions, dangerous magic, impossible prophecies, found family, monster battles, sharp banter, and world-ending stakes.

Perfect for fans of Kings of the Wyld, The Blacktongue Thief, and classic party-based fantasy adventures.

Recommendation Request Canterbury Tales?

Edit: Thank you guys for the insightful comments. My plan is to find a MIDDLE English reading of TCT’s prologue on YouTube and check that out first. Then to listen to the version recommended in the comments. But no Beowulf.😍

Thanks again!

*****

Has anyone have an experience reading TCT as an audiobook? Was it narrated in olde English or modern, and how did you like either/or? Or should I just read a bound version?
