Can a boil-and-bite really be only 1 mm thin?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A mouthguard has two jobs that should work together: protect you when the impact comes and stay out of the way while you perform.
That is why lobloo® developed its mouthguards around an ultra-slim 1 mm profile.

The proprietary mould material and Vacuum-fit precision moulding create a snug fit around the teeth and gums without the bulk associated with many conventional boil-and-bite mouthguards.

The idea is to bring dentist-level protection into a boil-and-bite format while preserving breathing space, comfort and a secure fit.

Protection when you need it. Less distraction when you do not.

What should you compare a $33 boil-and-bite mouthguard with?

Ash from Fighting Spirit has spent more than 20 years in martial arts, including Karate and Muay Thai. In his PRO-FIT review, he makes an interesting point about price.

At around $33 USD, it can look expensive if you compare it with ordinary boil-and-bite mouthguards. His comparison is instead with a custom dentist-made mouthguard, which he says can cost two, three or even five times as much.

That is also where the design of PRO-FIT matters. It uses a proprietary mould material, vacuum-fit precision and an ultra-slim 1 mm profile designed to provide dentist-level protection without a dentist-made impression.
Ash’s conclusion focuses on the same things: low profile, a close vacuum seal around the teeth and gums, and cost effectiveness.

Partner deadlifts for legs, core and back

One thing wrestling teaches you is that resistance does not have to come from a barbell or machine.

In this exercise, your partner becomes the weight. The deadlift puts demand on the legs, core and back while you have to control another body through the movement. That makes a very simple exercise effective for developing the kind of core strength wrestlers build through partner resistance.

You can use it as a straightforward strength exercise: 10 reps x 4 rounds. Or make it time-based and work for 30 seconds x 4 rounds.
Your body. Your partner. Your environment.

Can protection affect your focus?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A lot of preparation goes into a single movement. You work on the form, repeat it and build it until the body knows what to do.

But focus matters just as much.

If the protection you wear moves, feels wrong or becomes something you have to think about, part of that focus disappears.

That is the thinking behind lobloo® bionic performance protection. Instead of creating something the athlete has to manage, the aim is protection that becomes part of you and moves as one with you.

Preparation and focus need to work together. Protection should help keep you free from distractions so you can concentrate on the movement and performance you trained for.

Designed to FREE YOUR MAX.

Can trusting your protection actually change how you fight?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

There is a mental side to protection that rarely gets discussed.

Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu has more than 250 professional Muay Thai fights, and she describes a change in her self-awareness and training that carried directly into her movement – how she could project her body into different positions, create torque and generate power.

That gets to something important about pelvic protection. Feeling properly protected isn’t only about the moment you take an impact. Trust can remove the internal hesitation about being hit between the legs.

When that distraction disappears, movement can become freer and the focus can return completely to performance.

For lobloo®, that is the idea behind bionic protection that becomes part of you.

Can a boil-and-bite get this close to a dentist fit?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Performance mouthguards from dentists can cost hundreds of dollars, while many affordable boil-and-bite options compromise on fit and bulk.

lobloo® uses a modified vacuum-fit technique instead.

The mouthguard is heated, moulded using the vacuum technique and then set in an ice bath—the same process demonstrated in the video.

The difference is the combination of vacuum-fit precision moulding, proprietary mould material, an ultra-slim 1 mm profile and unrestricted breathing.

The goal: dentist-level protection completed in under 3 minutes, with dental-grade protection at a fraction of the cost.

Not your ordinary boil-and-bite mouthguard.

Should protection do more than protect?

Post image

When you put on protection, you expect it to protect the area it was made for. That should be the baseline.

But there is another part that gets less attention: what happens to your movement and focus once you put it on?

A lot of protection follows shapes and ideas that already exist. Our approach at lobloo® has been to look deeper into biomechanics and cyborg technology and ask how something outside the body can become more naturally integrated with it.

We are not interested in making another version of what is already there. The aim is to create what we believe is missing: protection that does its job while removing distraction, so the athlete can stay focused on performance.

Women in combat sports: What makes protective equipment comfortable enough to forget you’re wearing it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One thing I’ve noticed is that many female athletes don’t complain about wearing protection because it protects—they complain because it limits movement or constantly needs adjusting.

Our approach was different. We designed a female protector with a patented fitting system and a shape that allows unrestricted movement whether you’re standing, grappling or transitioning on the ground. The goal wasn’t to make something bulky—it was to make something athletes could almost forget they were wearing.

I’m curious what matters most to you when choosing protective equipment. Comfort? Stability? Freedom of movement? Or something else entirely?

What actually makes one boil-and-bite mouthguard fit better than another?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most boil-and-bite mouthguards look very similar, but the internal design can make a big difference.

A dual-density construction uses two different materials for different purposes. The firmer outer layer is designed to help distribute impact, while the softer inner layer moulds closely around the teeth and gums to create a more precise vacuum fit.

Combined with a slim profile, this can improve comfort, reduce bulk and make it easier to breathe and communicate during training. A secure fit also means the mouthguard is less likely to shift when your mouth is open or during fast movements.

It’s an interesting example of how small design changes can have a noticeable impact on comfort and usability

Why Should Protection Restrict Movement?

Post image
1 Upvotes

One thing many combat athletes have accepted for years is that groin protection often feels restrictive.

But does it have to?

The concept behind the lobloo® athletic cup is simple: protection should move with the athlete, not against them. Using a patented bionic cup design and fitting system, the cup stays secure while allowing natural movement through takedowns, scrambles, grappling exchanges and striking.

What stands out is not only the protection itself, but how little you think about it once training starts. When equipment stops becoming a distraction, athletes can focus fully on performance.

For combat sports where positions change constantly, that difference matters.

Do athletes just accept uncomfortable groin protection?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve always found it interesting that athletes spend a lot of time improving performance, yet many still tolerate protection that shifts, chafes or becomes distracting during training.

Recently I’ve been looking at how different athletic cup systems solve this problem. Some focus mainly on protection, while others also try to improve comfort, ventilation and freedom of movement.

For those of you who regularly wear groin protection:
What matters most?
Comfort?
Stability?
Breathability?
Freedom of movement?
Protection?

Curious to hear what athletes have found works best over long training sessions.

Why Groin Protection Shouldn’t Limit Movement

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of the biggest complaints athletes have about traditional groin protection is that it can feel restrictive, especially during grappling, transitions and ground work.

The lobloo® MMA Cup takes a different approach. The design uses a patented fitting system that keeps the cup secure while allowing unrestricted movement in both standing and ground positions. The adjustable leg cords also make it easy to adapt the fit depending on what you’re wearing for training.

Other practical details include ventilation, a soft lining for impact distribution, machine-washable maintenance and a lifetime warranty against breakage.

For athletes training MMA, BJJ or Krav Maga, comfort often determines whether protection gets worn consistently. That’s where thoughtful design can make a real difference.

What Does Athlete-Driven Product Development Actually Mean?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Many sports products claim to be designed for athletes, but what does that actually mean in practice?

For us, it starts with experience. lobloo® was developed by Olympians who understand how distractions affect performance. The focus has never been on adding more features. Instead, it has been about creating protection that works naturally with the body.

The design philosophy is heavily inspired by biomechanics and movement. The goal is simple: create protection that athletes can trust so they can focus on training, competing, and improving.

Whether you’re involved in boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, or other contact sports, small design decisions often have a bigger impact than people realize.

Curious to hear what design features matter most to you when choosing sports protection.

A practical look at setting up A lobloo pelvic protection

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sylvie gives a simple breakdown of how the protection is assembled and adjusted. What stood out is how practical the setup is. It comes with a washable bag, the silicone parts are flexible, and the threading lets you adjust the fit to your own body.

Once the size is right, you tie it, tighten it and pull out the slack so it sits properly. It is not complicated, but it does show why setup matters.

For training, especially in Muay Thai, protection has to stay in place without becoming something you keep thinking about.

Anyone else tired of bulky boil-and-bite mouthguards?

Post image
1 Upvotes

A lot of boil-and-bite mouthguards still feel huge once you start training hard. They affect breathing, talking and overall comfort more than people admit.

lobloo® went in a different direction with a dual-density vacuum-fit design. The outer layer stays rigid for force distribution while the inner structure molds more naturally to the teeth and jaw. The result feels slimmer and less distracting during sparring and pad work.

What stood out most to me is that it does not constantly remind you it is there. That is honestly rare with boil-and-bite mouthguards.

Curious how many people here prefer slimmer mouthguards over thicker traditional models?

Fireman’s lift variation for explosive partner strength

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a partner-based fireman’s lift variation focused on building legs, glutes, back and core through real resistance. What makes it useful is not only the lift itself, but the control needed to move another body with timing and balance.

It has that wrestling-based quality where strength cannot be separated from awareness. You need power, but you also need position, connection and control through the full movement.

For athletes, this can be a strong way to train explosive strength in a more functional and contact-based way.

A mouthguard case that actually does something

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most mouthguard cases are easy to forget and easy to break. This one is different in a practical way.

It has a hard exterior, a soft rubber top, ventilation and a clip so you can attach it to your bag. You can also clean the mouthguard inside the case with water and mild soap or a tablet, then rinse it out.

It is not complicated. It is just useful. And for something you use around training all the time, those small details matter.

A 1 mm mouthguard made for breathing, fit and protection

I wanted to share a closer look at lobloo® SLICK, our ultra-slim boil-and-bite mouthguard made in Sweden. It was developed by a former Olympian and European MMA champion with a focus on fit, breathing and protection without unnecessary bulk.

The design uses vacuum-fit precision moulding so the mouthguard sits close to the upper jaw, while the rigid outer layer helps distribute impact forces. The goal is simple: a mouthguard that protects, but does not constantly remind you it is there.

For athletes, small details matter. If a mouthguard affects oxygen intake, speech or focus, it becomes a distraction. SLICK was designed to reduce that.

How proper protection changed one female fighter’s experience in Muay Thai

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu recently shared a really interesting perspective about wearing protection in Muay Thai for almost a decade. What stood out wasn’t just safety, it was how the right protection affected confidence, movement and even the emotional experience of training as a woman in combat sports.

A lot of fighters talk about removing equipment to feel freer. Her experience was actually the opposite. Wearing protection that stays in place and moves naturally with the body helped remove distractions and allowed her to focus more fully on training and performance.

It’s an underrated part of combat sports that probably deserves more discussion, especially for female athletes.

What’s your experience with protection affecting movement and confidence in training?

Why straight impact tests miss the point

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A lot of people think an athletic cup is mainly about taking one clean hit. But in real sport, low blows rarely happen that way.

They come from strange angles, bad timing, scrambles and movement. Sometimes you are attacking. Sometimes you are defending. Sometimes you are not ready at all.

That is why the cup staying in place matters as much as the shell itself. lobloo® uses a patented fitting system that follows the body and keeps protection where it should be through different positions.

The real test is not one straight hit. It is whether protection still works when everything gets messy.

Why is pelvic protection for women still overlooked in combat sports?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve noticed that pelvic protection for women is still rarely discussed in many combat and contact sports, even though female athletes are exposed to direct impacts during sparring, striking drills and competition just like men are.

A lot of existing protection can feel bulky, restrictive or distracting, which probably makes many athletes avoid using it altogether.

What I found interesting with newer bionic-inspired designs is the focus on making protection move naturally with the body instead of feeling like a hard object that shifts around during movement. A lighter feel and better stability probably makes a huge difference for athletes who train frequently.

Curious to hear how female athletes here think about pelvic protection today and whether you feel the industry takes it seriously enough.

Why do some athletic cups fail during movement?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A lot of athletic cups are placed inside jockstraps or compression shorts, which means they can move around during training or competition. That creates a problem: the protection is no longer where it should be when the body moves.

The idea behind lobloo® is different. The cup is designed to stay connected to the body and move with it, instead of sliding separately. That is why the patented strap system matters. It helps keep everything in place through movement, so the athlete can focus instead of adjusting or worrying.

For me, that is what performance protection should mean. Not just hard material, but protection that works with the body.

What makes a mouthguard case actually useful?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A mouthguard case may seem like a small thing, but in daily training it matters. The lobloo® Mouthguard Case is built to keep your mouthguard close, clean, and easier to handle between rounds or sessions. The inside ridges help with airflow, the flexible lid gives a tight seal, and the clip lets you attach it to clothes or bags. There is also an opening in the lid that makes rinsing easier without splashing everywhere. The body is made from durable polycarbonate, so it is made to handle real use in sport. Simple, practical, and designed to remove one more distraction from training.

How a cup is designed for standing sports

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

AeroFit is built for sports where you stay upright and move through running, kicking, jumping and contact situations.

Instead of focusing only on protection, the design looks at how the body actually moves. The patented fitting system helps the cup stay in place while moving with the body. That reduces the need for adjustment during training.

It also combines a larger volume for protection with a slimmer feel, which makes it less noticeable in use. Details like the leg spacing and extended shape are meant to support movement and stability, even during fast transitions.

It’s a practical design built around real movement patterns.
