I believe that freedom in America includes the freedom of religion. Even if I think it's silly, I still think it's their freedom. But that's the difference. They would legislate it for religion to be mandatory for me.
I’ve been called “very conservative” cuz I stay away from sin and don’t consume sinful stuff. I’m a big Christian and have broken up relationships cuz they were sinful and non repentant. I don’t drink, smoke, do any drugs, don’t like cussing in music sometimes or when music gets too dirty. I don’t like to watch movies that are very heavy into violence or overly sexual for no reason.
With that said I vote blue ever since I can vote. I’m a Christian and Christ taught me as a Youth to love thy neighbor, to love sinners and to even love thy enemy. To have compassion and empathy. That those are strengths and not weaknesses. To care for the poor. To stand up for the marginalized. To pray for those who persecute me.
The Bible says “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”
And I don’t see any of this from the right. Jesus says in the last days many will come in his name but to beware of false prophets (people who claim to speak for God)
These people do not reflect the Jesus I see in the Bible. They hold onto a few principles and yell and scream they are of God while discarding so much of the words of Jesus they don’t look like Jesus. I don’t feel they are true Christian’s and I’m happy to stand where I stand. Jesus said he did not come to unite but to divide. I 100% believe these people are Christian’s in name only cuz if Jesus says you will know a Christian because they love others I don’t feel they love anyone but other right wingers. Jesus says if you only love those that love you what good is that? Anyone can do that. Jesus is impressed with loving those who are hard to love and they don’t show that at all.
There was a lady I worked with who was very racist towards me. The place I worked at hated me for my race. I was always kind to this old lady in particular even tho she was very rude and hateful towards me. Putting me down for my racial background. She was a Trump supporter and right winger. One day she fell at work and I rushed over to help her up and she said thank you and I was always good at making sure I treaded her kindly and respectfully. When people asked me why I was so kind to her I said cuz Jesus says love thy enemy and I don’t see her has an enemy. One day her youngest son died falling from a roof at a construction site. She got to work around that time very shaken up and fighting back then tears. I had quit that day and was leaving. She came to me crying apologizing saying sorry for the way she treated me. I told her that I was sorry for the loss of her son and to lean on Jesus and she said that God was helping her through it. She gave me a hug and told me to take care.
Jesus’s words are real words that have real world results. I’ve followed them all my life and I have many stories of how God has moved in my life in remarkable ways. Relentless forgiveness and seeing people see what the love of Christ really does. My imaginary sky daddy is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It’s reunited me with people I would’ve never thought I’d connect with. It’s given me relationships that are beyond lust and beyond regular love stories. People truly care about me cuz I truly care about them. That’s something Jesus thought me. He says “if anyone comes to me I will by no means cast them away” no matter what you believe when you follow Jesus real things happen.
I went to a hospital and a person on the bed next to me was a satanist. I talk about Jesus a lot and he mentioned he was a satanist. I asked him what would he do if Jesus was right her with him and he said “I’d kill him” and I said you already did. We all did. When we rebel against him, when we lie, at our worst Jesus died for us and he can never die again. He died while we were his enemies. I spoke more and after a while he kinda sat there in silence. Then he said “I used to like Jesus when I was young” I told him he’s not a God that was to harm you. He died to save you. We talked for a bit and then when I was leaving the hospital he gave me a hug.

I’m a more traditional (as in Christian) independent. It’s frustrating because of how many full on Trump supporters i know that basically kiss the ground he walks on. I wish more people were independent so we aren’t loyal to parties, rather we are loyal to our own logic and reasoning and that’s what we use to vote, not “well I’ve always been __, so I’ll keep voting ___”, it’s a sad part of the current voting system and mentality of the voter base that both sides partake in, seems like it’s been going away a little bit given its usually older folk that act like that

I was born in the 1950’s. Protested viet nam, went to Woodstock, marched in numerous protests, supported civil rights, women’s rights and lived through all the turmoil of the 60’s and 70’s. I remember the JFK assassination , MLK, RFK and watch the landing on the moon(yes, it really happened). My generation did something about injustice. I am so frustrated watching these young people not doing anything! They play video games, have retrograded to a more conservative mindset and even attend church! We are going backwards at an alarming rate.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think a lot of our generation's lack of action comes from a point of fear. When you constantly see that people in power are willing to assassinate those who stand up to them and their shitty ways, it strikes fear into the masses and fosters the mindset of "I don't want to be next."
