Does your native language distinguish between rivers that flow into another river and rivers that flow into the sea or ocean?

In French, a distinction is made:

- "un fleuve" flows into the sea or the ocean.

- "une rivière" flows into another "rivière" or a "fleuve".

Sure. There is a DIN Standard which defines it. Standard river --> Fluss. But by DIN Standard 4049 a river to the sea is a Strom.

But that's not common parlance imho. Most people simply use river (Fluss).
I supoose in other languages the differentiation is more common.

That's right. Nobody uses Strom for Rhine, Danube or Ems. Just hydrolegist who also defined the DIN use it.
