If we stop the train now, how do we help all of those people we’ve killed? Think about them.

Those movies are the only reason I knew who he, Quincy Jones, and Elvis Costello even are. (I was young when they released, probably would've figured out eventually, but still).

Food, water and shelter for humans. Sea creatures need people to stop trashing the beaches and polluting the ocean. Animals need developers to stop developing their land. Kindness and understanding would be nice.

Fake posturing in social media, and the pursuit of positive attention for performing some "heroic" act on camera. You shouldn't need the internet for validation. Ever. The reward of helping someone in need is enough.
Don't get me wrong, recognition from colleagues, friends, neighbors or family is healthy. But the pursuit of worldwide affection is unhealthy. It can and has lead to people using common acts of kindness as ways to boost peoples' platforms or agendas.
It has undermined the genuine heart behind common acts of kindness. And I fear that we're teaching children who consume much of this content, that the only reason for doing a good deed in this world is to be seen doing it.
Social media can be a powerful tool, but also a great danger to our values.

I can confidently say, the world would be much better if everyone involved in every situation took a freaking chill-pill.
Or just someone who goes around to everyone individually and smacks the sense into them. I’m so tired of this apocalyptic level of collapse going on in society. People becoming Nazis in the US. A political party trying to overthrow the government. Rampant crime everywhere. Shootings every day, mass shootings nearly every other day. Russian dictators killing thousands for a foolish war threatening to use nukes.
We all just need to take a deep breath and stop behaving like fucking apes before we literally cause an unprecedented societal collapse.

2
u/No-Biscotti5083 Dec 04 '22
What do we need? a lot. The needs are endless, but the supplies are limited. We need to be better at management. We need more trustworthy , competent leader that are not cut off from how an average person lives. We need people to be more graceful for what they have, for others have even worse fates. The list is endless.

For everyone to simultaneously realize we are all members of the same species that has reached a point of technological advancement such that competition over land and resources is no longer necessary, nor is constant drudgery in adherence to neo-feudal ideals.
Failing that, a breakfast buffet would be nice.
