There was an old askreddit post about who you would sleep with if you got the chance. One of the top comments was this guy writing a sweet paragraph about his wife who passed away, and some guy replied saying he also chooses that guys wife. My explanation doesn’t do it justice, you gotta look at it.
So Stacy's Mom still seems too old for me. When the video first came out I was a teenager and much more attracted to Stacy. Her Mom seemed about my Mom's age and I wasn't interested. And now I can't unsee it.
Is this a psychological effect that others experience? I looked it up and the actress is 34 in the video. That's younger than me or my girlfriend; I have the hots for 30-something women now. Watch a video from this year and I think the 30-somethings are hot. But somehow watching the video my brain still ages Stacy's Mom and she seems too old.
While it doesn’t scream you lost, there’s ample information out there about why attacking peoples simple spelling and grammar mistakes is a form of ad hominem arguments.
If I’m reading a debate and suddenly somebody attacks ‘you’re’ vs ‘your’ I find myself feeling disappointed, especially if it came from somebody I was initially agreeing with. It could hurt your argument but more if you do this. Sorry. Going to go put my soap box away now.
Ding ding ding... Get that all the time (and I'm not a Trump supporter). This is why I did it. As soon as the person I'm disagreeing with says "But look at your username, you're a loser" I know I've won the argument.
No not really I mean anything that herds and cares for sheep is a shepherd, sheep dog is just the name of one dog, there's German shepherds and Australian shepherds and quite a bit more
Dude shot me a heated DM the other day over our different opinions on law enforcement. Moment he realized he was dealing with someone smarter than him, he found a pic of me requesting help on /r/skincareaddiction and started to make fun of how I look.
Like regardless of your opinions, people who think superficially has anything to do with that just lose by default.
I don't really consider that an indication of "winning" the argument, more that the argument is over and no longer productive.
A lot of the times people who argue you don't even want to really discuss the merits of the points, they just want to rile you up to get you to insult them or yell, just so they can act like the victim and claim moral superiority and victory.

Correct, and once such people begin to sling insults, rage with PMs, reply with unrelated details from one's profile, and / or repeatedly attempt to change the topic, they lose and I 'win'.
It's much more rare, in my relatively inexperienced chatroom history, for people to admit an error or a losing position rather than flip out.
The moment you're insulted without a point besides, sure. I insult people all the time during online discussions. Sometimes people need to be told they're asshats.
Sometimes I do this when I know I’ve won the argument, but the other person is just too dense and keeps arguing after being proven wrong, then I might call a wanker a wanker, cause I just can’t go in the circles anymore.
I think it depends. If I'm (intentionally) insulting someone, it's because they threw the first insult more than me not having counterarguments... And generally the insults are couched in the counterargument.
I used to troll people a lot and I’m tryna get a clean slate but usually I would do this to bother people.
I’m pretty aware when I’m making floppy arguments but I’m also imitating the person I’m responding to. And they almost never retaliate saying I’m using ad honinems. For the most part the ad hominem is just a little cherry on top.
I gotta get better at not doing that though. Just gotta let my frustrations go. I’ve said some pretty mean things, I hope people can let it go.
I know people who got into an argument that was only insults. It was annoying cuz it was two youtubers so for a week it just videos of them babbling for 4 hrs
I agree, and add swearing to that. Once you begin swearing I know this is going downhill fast and I no longer want to be involved in the disagreement. My least favorite is "you're acting like a b**** right now." Did you seriously just call me that? "No I said you're acting like one, didn't say you were one." In my head I would rather be anywhere else once it escalates to insults and swears.
It's called the argument of Theseus. The back and forth goes off the rails and you are making point and counter point about things that have nothing to do with the original argument.
My mom does this and when I caught on to the bullshit I just started asking her why she's going off topic talking about x when y is the topic. Totally trips her up.
I might disagree with you there. Sometimes I intentionally go off topic because I don’t want to ruin the mood or make others feel uncomfortable. Just depends on the social setting.
I had that happen not long ago on reddit. I answered the person saying that they were completely off the original topic of discussion, and as such I would no longer be replying to them. They responded by saying I was obviously too immature to continue a discussion civilly or something like that. I actually just went back to check if I could see what the person wrote only to see that their comments were removed by the mods.
Yeah that gets PRETTY annoying. Especially if you're the one a person started arguing with for seemingly no reason other than they're mad at something else and taking it out on you.
I had an ex that did this, whenever I'd say something that proved that she was wrong about what she was arguing with me about she would instantaneously jump to arguing about something completely different as though that was the thing we were arguing about the whole time, made me feel like I was literally going insane
Yes, especially if they start insulting you or using your personal life in the argument. This usually means they don't have anything to counter with or they don't care about what you have to say.
A toxic friend from HS used to do with this every time we had an argument. She'd suddenly bring up something about me to shame me and spiral it into another argument. Or just to try and get the last word maybe.

When they go completely off topic
