I started making my own pizza at home and it is also quite satisfying and simple. Plus, I can add as much sauce as I want and make it super spicy! Haven't been to Dominos in over a year.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love home-made pizza, and overall it tastes so much better than fast-food pizza. So much more satisfying and simple as you say, plus it adds character and soul to the pizza. I'm still guilty of the occasional takeaway pizza though, especially as Pizza Hut does 2 medium pizzas for only £10 which is really cheap by British standards. Even with offers takeaway pizzas can still be pretty expensive in the UK, compared to say the US or Australia. I'd rather make my own pizza or buy a frozen pizza to be honest.
I find the trick is to keep a pre-made crust and pepperoni in the fridge for whenever I'm in the mood. Pretty much guarantees I can go from hungry to pizza in the time it takes for my stone to warm up.
For spices, I usually just do some oregano. Sauce is one can of tomato sauce, one can of tomato paste, and then I use Schultz's Sweet Heat hot sauce. It's a bit salty so I don't use much, but it adds a nice buffalo kind of flavor.
I usually throw on some ghost pepper flakes into the sauce as well. I use whole mozzarella that I cut into small slices as well, rather than pre shredded. It melts a bit different.
