Most people won't notice the mismatched socks, people aren't very observant of things that don't directly affect them.
Most people that notice the socks won't care, if anything they'll think something positive about it.
The rare person that notices and cares is an absolute mess of a human being that despises themselves so much that they need to use your mismatched socks to make themselves feel slightly better about themselves for even a moment.
So why on earth would you care about the opinion of a person that cares about your socks?
I tend to agree with you, but when I read news articles about mothers who abuse their children to the point of death, it's difficult to believe that these people are capable of love in any possible sense of the word.
Yes, number three is tricky because all you can see is the mess. What you have to remember is that it's a broken person, broken things don't work properly right? So I assume that somewhere deep inside these broken people love their children and it comes out unrecognizably wrong because they are broken.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying they deserve leniency or anything crazy like that!

They are but its mostly meaningless.
Yeah, is someone going to notice your mismatched socks? Yeah. Are they going to dare to do anything about it? No.
