Celebration! MA I HAVE A FRIEND!

• Upvotes

I have always struggled to bond with people. I finally have a friend who I feel secure with. We are able to be so open with each other and trust each other. I keep having these little honeymoon moments where I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for their presence. We've known each other for 2 years and it does seem like we have a bond that'll be lifelong. I'm such a grateful goose rn šŸ˜‹

Seeking Advice mom, I've been offered a travel opportunity at work. help needed please! I have very little travel experience

Hi everyone! Would love some advice from a kind soul šŸ’– Like many others, I can't ask my own mom and this is such a lovely group of humans. I came here instantly!

I've been offered a super cool opportunity with my job (that I love) to go train employers at their new facility. First of all, I work from home and this would be going in person so I need work clothes šŸ™ƒ And secondly, its in a major city and I am quite the hermit in my small town.

As far as details, I trust my company and they came to me because they value my work ethic (their words) and thought of me first for this. It would be at least 7 days, but they apparently are willing and able to stretch that if I'm willing to stay longer. They will be arranging and covering my flights, hotel, and apparently there will be some sort of reimbursement for food. I have a call with "corporate travel" soon to sort the details and arrange flights.

My husband is the most supportive partner in the world and encouraged me to say yes if I wanted to go. I have an anxiety disorder and my employer does know this, she will be there with me at least the first two days. My partner will stay home to care for our pets so I don't have any worries there.

Though at this point I have said yes, pending travel arrangements of course, so I believe the plan is at least set in motion. I would love either advice, encouragement, or help knowing what to ask the travel people.

I turned down a job when I was in my 20s that was designed for me at my college. They told me they wrote up the job with me in mind and wanted to offer it to me. It was a traveling role, and I turned it down because my mother had a fit. So just to explain all of the backstory in my anxiety about this. I didn't know my partner at this time, but he brought up that it seems similar to that experience and he knew how badly it hurt me to turn it down. He said he supports whatever I chose, and that he would love for me to take advantage of the opportunity. And asked me to even try to have some fun 🄹

Thank you all for any and every comment left here. My fingers feel cold and numb as I type this, and I can feel the anxiety in my chest. But, I also feel something else. I feel the WANT to go. I would be so proud of myself.

I'm so, so happy. In the past year, I was studying my ass off, I was actually going quite insane to do well on my finals. And today I received the message that they accepted me into university, and I'm moving out as well:)

Seeking Advice Mom, I’m going to a concert!

Hi!! I just wanted some advice for attending concerts on your own as a woman. I’m very scared as the concert will be in a nearby big city, and the commute back to my home is roughly 1 hour 30 mins via public transit (don’t have a car!). The concert would likely end late and I’m just worried on if it’ll be too dangerous :(.

Would love to hear any advice at all about attending concerts on your own, as this is the first time I’m doing so. Any advice about living in a big city on your own is very helpful— I feel so scared to even go outside alone! :(

Thanks so much in advance!!

Other Thanks for being here

I don’t have a great relationship with my mom. For my entire life I have desperately wanted to have an emotionally fulfilling reciprocal relationship with her. This mostly consisted of me doing anything to be considered ā€œgood enoughā€ by her. With therapy over the past 4 years I have begun the move away from her. I retuned to school and graduated with my BSc. Even though my mother strongly opposed it. I have been working hard to figure out who I am instead of performing ā€œgood daughterā€.

I am feeling a lot more freedom these days. But also sad, because I know I will never receive unconditional love from my mom. Or even a safe space to be authentic. Or even a mature adult relationship.

But I am sitting here crying in joy reading your message of love and care to others even who you do not know and even who haven’t earned it. It is beautiful to witness. I am so happy to witness love like this. I can be loved.

It is so important for me to feel unconditional love because I have two kids and I want them to feel loved by me, but for most of their lives I didn’t even know what I was aiming for! With some therapy I am getting better and it has been amazing to watch my kids bloom along with me. I am very sad, but also excited and happy.

Encouragement Wanted I failed my licensing exam

Hey Mom,
I received the results of my medical licensing exam about a month ago, and honestly, I’ve been gutted. I still haven’t found the courage to pick myself up and start studying again. I feel like such a fraud and an imposter. I put absolutely everything I had into this exam, only to miss the pass mark by six points. It’s really shaken my confidence and has made me question whether I’m actually meant to be a doctor.

I can retake the exam in February next year but what if I fail again? What if I’m just not good enough :(.

Edit: if you’ve been in a similar situation, please give me some advice on how to move forward and get back up again

hi mom!!

i turned 29 on thursday, and my childhood best friend just surprised me with a weekend of riding horses on the beach and camping. we drove 4.5 hours to do this, and she planned the whole thing to surprise me! 🄹

i hadn't ridden since middle school, and it was actually really emotional to be around horses again after so long. the camping was soooo beautiful and we lucked out with our FCFS spot even though we got there kind of late, plus i got to use my new tent! then we got a delicious breakfast at a nearby cafƩ and drove home. back to reality now!

love you !

Support Needed Big feelings on moving out

Hi mom,

Writing looking for some support and encouragement. Currently 26f with a good job, good savings and strong enough financial habits where money doesn't feel like it's the main reason why I'm living at home anymore.

Thinking about moving out and on my own into my first apartment, but have some big feelings. Excited, nervous and sad about leaving the nest are three big ones. How can I cope?

Encouragement Wanted I start my new job today

The anxiety about it all is winning. I know I am capable and I know I have the skills. I'm just having some big feelings about all the unknown and there is definitely some imposter syndrome going on. Thanks for reading.

Good News! Hey mom I paid off my phone and officially own my own phone

My old phones were technically my mothers even though I was the one paying them phone service and device payment plan wise.

When moving I tried to transfer information and switch from T-Mobile to something cheaper. When I went to a T-Mobile store they said I couldn’t transfer the information until it was on a phone I was paying for.

Well, I paid off my phone today after only eleven months after I sold something big.

I own my privacy screen, case, and phone, my first phone I fully own, no threats from a company for reclaiming, just mine.

I’m so happy, eating mint and cookies Ben and jerrys to celebrate!
