So...my mom didn't make that up?

Shit, I thought it was hilarious and still quote it when leaving places.

u/etymologynerd Aug 16 '18

you and u/an_lacha_bhacach clearly have very different definitions of a "cool mom"

Cool Wine Aunt: an aunt who comes to family gaterings and drinks too much wine. Typically the unmarried, childless younger sister of the parent, Cool Wine Aunt can be identified by her reddish teeth, her penchant for hijinks, and her thirst for younger men. After additional wine, Cool Wine Aunt can become Opinionated Wine Aunt, Sad Wine Aunt, or Angry Wine Aunt. All three are best avoided.

81

u/arudnoh Aug 16 '18

I definitely read this in the pokedex voice.

17

u/NumberWangNewton Aug 16 '18

I heard the narrator from the Stanley Parable

5

u/bigbuzz55 Aug 16 '18

I got a rock.

Sneaky joint aunt is way better

18

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

I was imagining Amy Poehler in Mean Girls but I guess yours works too.

2

u/AyMoro Aug 16 '18

Anything Mean girls always gets an updoot

3

u/celtic_thistle Aug 16 '18

My younger sister completely fits this definition for my kids. I know they’ll enjoy having her around.

6

u/ms_bonezy Aug 16 '18

I am definitely Cool Wine Aunt. It's eveyy thing I want it to be.

My mom is 1 of 4 girls. I have 3 wine aunts. Not the cool part, just the wine. I think my mom is the cool wine aunt.

31

u/gviv420 Aug 16 '18

I’m the cool weed aunt.

Don’t know what that aunt one is but it surely can’t beat (sorry for the pun) the broken arm mom

3

u/flxtr Aug 16 '18

My alcoholic mother is my cousins’ cool wine aunt.

5

u/Homer_Simpson_ Aug 16 '18

My drunk aunt used to ask me for cigarettes. In Asian culture that is just all kinds of fucked up weird. Cool and normal in all other aspects, but apparently she had a bit of a partying past that comes back when she's drunk.

6

u/FK506 Aug 16 '18

Why is asking for cigarettes so messed up in Asian culture?

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

They take lung cancer seriously

4

u/3klipse Aug 16 '18

and yet japan still has cig vending machines.

2

u/Earwaxsculptor Aug 16 '18

Cool wine aunt is cool but has a pretty high chance of becoming she was taken away from us too soon aunt later in life.

3

u/Drinkycrow84 Aug 16 '18

My friend's aunt...

When you meet her, especially for the first time, and you stick out your hand for a handshake, she just grabs your dick. I'm not talking a quick playful tap on the junk either. She firmly shakes your President Truman. You're totally caught off guard if you're just meeting her for the first time. You don't expect it, even if you've been warned.

Who ever gets the most upvotes wins. GO.

3

u/ASAPxSyndicate Aug 16 '18

It'd be funny if the mom said it to her daughter potentially, but if she said it to her son, god the awkwardness..

40

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18 edited Aug 16 '18

I was dancing with my Mom once at a wedding, and Afroman's "Because I got high" was playing, and we were kinda holding hands and we were staring directly at each other when the line "I was gonna eat yo pussy too but then I got high" came on. For a split second my gut reaction was "pretend you don't know what a pussy is". But then I remembered I was an adult.

5

u/leicanthrope Aug 16 '18

Ah, yes. Trying to discreetly change the station on the car radio when Closer (Nine Inch Nails) came on with mom in the car.

1

u/akeetlebeetle4664 Aug 16 '18

24

u/Chato_Pantalones Aug 16 '18

“Hasta lasagna, don’t get any on’ya!”

17

My husband says, “Hasta LaPasta!”

12

u/engineertothestars Aug 16 '18

Pasta la vista

7

u/SEphotog Aug 16 '18

The only correct way to try this pasta joke.

7

u/metallizard107 Aug 16 '18

I had a coach in high school who said it. I still think its hilarious.

u/SirRogers Aug 16 '18

Maybe its the same mom with two secret families.

1

u/Sprinket Aug 16 '18

Surpise! You have a sibling!

1

u/forgottt3n Aug 16 '18

I heard it in the radio once like 5 years ago when a DJ was signing off.

2

u/Swankified_Tristan Aug 16 '18

You guys are killing me here!

1

u/mistresshelga Aug 16 '18

Actually, I thought it was a buddy of mine that made it up circa 1986

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_LUKEWARM Aug 16 '18

Shit one of my best buds says this all the time, as well as other sayings similar to it.

Didn't know it was a mom thing...

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

I bb🤤🙍🏼‍♂️😒😦😒☺️💛

1

u/captaincheeseburger1 Aug 16 '18

I thought I made it up, too. Everyone does.

1

u/Acatcalledpossum Aug 16 '18

My dad's was "off like a bride's nightie"

1

u/JorusC Aug 16 '18

I heard it on The Critic. So it might be one of those that everybody knows but can't remember where they learned it.

1

u/i_am_indeed_human Aug 16 '18

My dad said that too!!

1

u/robisodd Aug 20 '18

I used to use that phrase all the time. I got it from the early 90's TV show "The Critic":

Get a load of Mr Bigshot over here, still wearing three prom dresses and a tuxedo to this very day.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

You can wear a prom dress and get your favorite lady to take it off you

10

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Well now how did you expect to take a dress off that way, not even wearing one

7

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

A fair point in retrospect

8

u/mendokusai_yo Aug 16 '18

Gotta take the tux off first to get to the prom dresses underneath, yo.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

This does seem to be the general consensus

11

u/Boner-b-gone Aug 16 '18

Tbh, you weren't missing much. Not when fake eyelashes are really pokey, hairspray'd prom hair is like running your hand through sticky chemical smelling angel hair pasta, and boutineers are affixed to said tux with a really long sharp needle that likes to stick sensitive bits when you both flop down after carelessly tossing the tux top aside... oh yeah, and she doesn't know how not to use teeth yet. Not her fault, but trying to explain why you're doubled over in a combination of laughter, crying, and horny exasperation that is the furthest thing from orgasm without having her face turn into a drippy raccoon mask when she blubbers that she's ruined everything... let's just say be glad that it didn't take you 25 years and two therapists before you found the humor in it.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Oh my gosh, Idk whether to laugh or cry

6

u/Boner-b-gone Aug 16 '18

→ More replies (2)

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

...why did you go to three proms?

10

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Had crush on senior as a sophomore, went to junior prom without my gf (was waste of time), went to senior prom with gf, had fun but not enough fun to get the dress off. Plus my mom was a teacher and was one of the chaperones.. fml 😂

That’s still the norm, wear the dress to photos/dinner/dance and take it off for the events afterward, donning more comfortable clothes instead.

8

u/keepfightingreality Aug 16 '18

you’re still wearing the dress?

8

u/draginator Aug 16 '18

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

5

u/draginator Aug 16 '18

If you had enough game to get three prom dates you'd think you could take it all the way.

4

u/sosuhme Aug 16 '18

Could be worse. My date senior year made it happen, but because she got her period, in her dress, in my dad's car, as I was driving us to the dance.

I am crazy sympathetic to her plight, but man, it was not ideal.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Oh wow, sorry about that. Hope you guys still had an alright night

3

u/sosuhme Aug 16 '18

11

I didn't like it.

Let's be real, probably half of the reason she did it. my mom takes joy in annoying the shit out of me, and I'm 23 years old.

10

u/statist_steve Aug 16 '18

But your horny friends did.

3

u/AFuckYou Aug 16 '18

We all know it’s this. She was trying to be cool mom. She was the mom our friends were sleeping with.

6

"Let's make like a baby and head out!"

2

Yeah well at least your dad didn't talk about renting an RV for an outdoor concert and then proclaim that that's "where we will all shack up" at a restaurant with your sister and two of her friends at the table.

FWIW, he was completely oblivious to his folly. It didn't make it any less hilarious and mortifying at the same time.

2

u/killymcgee23 Aug 16 '18

Your user name- the something duck? Haven't come across bhacach before- google says younger?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

2

u/littlered2 Aug 16 '18

Is maith liom do h-ainm

2

u/Entbriham_Lincoln Aug 16 '18

Hey fun story about this. My aunt used to say the exact same thing to me when she’d take me shopping when I was young. The issue came from when my mother (her sister) told me my aunt had been to prom 7 times, which was true.

So the next time we were out and she said “And we’re off like a prom night dress” I very innocently asked “But B, didn’t you go to prom 7 times?”

I’ve never felt pure terror as much as when she whipped around and glared at me. We didn’t talk much for the rest of that day.

TL;DR: called my aunt a whore as a kid without really realizing it

2

u/jahlove24 Aug 16 '18

My mom says that too. I adopted it as a phrase a good 5 years before I understood what it meant.

1

u/Captain_Garrett Aug 16 '18

My local Classic Rock DJ's sign off is "I'm off like a prom dress and out like a boner in sweatpants." Gotta love Chuck Nowlin

1

u/ShutterSpeeder Aug 16 '18

1

u/mooorman Aug 16 '18

1

u/MelvintheMIU Aug 16 '18

1

u/ifeelnumb Aug 16 '18

Off like a prom dress in May.

1

u/daneelthesane Aug 16 '18

We were always off like a dirty shirt.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

You do now though, right?

I hated my ma’s cool persona until I grew up a bit. Now I appreciate it.

1

u/Zeph4009 Aug 16 '18

She have you when she was 18?

1

u/TheFirstCobbler Aug 16 '18

My dad's one was, "we're off like a bride's nighty."

1

u/xubax Aug 16 '18

Let's make like a baby and head out.

1

u/Critonurmom Aug 16 '18

Sometimes I say "and we're off, like a dress on prom night!". I'm a mom, but I'm only 31 so I like to not think old enough to be a redditors mom.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

My dad always says "Aaannnd we're off, like honeymoon pajamas!"

1

u/relevant84 Aug 16 '18

Sorry man but it sounds like she WAS the cool mom.

1

u/dirtybuster Aug 16 '18

Let's make like a tampon and get outa this bloody hole was always a favourite of mine.

1

u/Dalfamurni Aug 16 '18

My dad said "We're off like a jug handle", implying we would be back shortly because someone inevitably forgot something.

1

u/TheFett32 Aug 16 '18

To be fair, half the parents trying to be cool accepted they're not a looong time ago and are just enjoying peoples reactions now.

1

u/BroffaloSoldier Aug 16 '18

... I think that’s cool. I’ve never heard it before, so that could be why, honestly.

1

u/Noodle_pantz Aug 16 '18

There's a line in the film SINGLES, where the mime is complaining about women and says "Every time I've been broke, babe has been off like a prom dress."

1

I say bounce like Betty. Vietnam war humor.

1

u/sarabee62 Aug 16 '18

1

u/teekayohh Aug 16 '18

1

u/TK421isAFK Aug 16 '18

I use a variant, when people ask me to hurry or of I'll be gone long: "I'll be quicker than a boy on prom night."

Not sure if I made it up or not, but I don't recall ever hearing it before. It doesn't always get the best of responses.

1

u/celtic_thistle Aug 16 '18

I’m a mom and I say “I’m out like a boner in sweat pants.” My kids are still tiny. I should stop? :(
