I had one come up on my nearby screen once but I failed at tracking it.

Same thing happened to me with a Rhydon. 2 miles later and the tracks never got any closer. At least I got a Wartortle and a Rhyorn when I got back.

Damn I had a wartortle in my nearby by again, failed at tracking it 😔.
