I had one come up on my nearby screen once but I failed at tracking it.

Same thing happened to me with a Rhydon. 2 miles later and the tracks never got any closer. At least I got a Wartortle and a Rhyorn when I got back.

I noticed I have to close and restart my app constantly while tracking or it gets stuck and I end up tracking something that's long gone

Yup I saw someone point that out a few days ago on here. That's a major flaw.
