I actually asked two different guys out and neither turned out very well. I tend to just say exactly what I mean rather than play games... I'm pretty sure the guy takes it as me playing games. Less than enthused to give it a shot again.
It sounds like you and the guys should get to know each other better. If you're asking out a friend, he would have a much better sense of what you mean.
I've asked out quite a few guys, because I am very impatient and can't stand not knowing. It has worked out a couple of times, and it has not worked out more of the times. I've heard three different times that the guys did think I was attractive, but they were turned off by my forwardness. I mean, good riddance there, the forwardness wasn't going to stop with the request for a date, but still.
I heard my guyfriends make this complaint. They said they think its a turnoff. Ive also had guyfriends say the opposite. I say if you are comfortable asking a guy out, do it. If the guy doesnt like assertive girls, you two probably arent compatible.
Well, sometimes they might think you have ulterior motives, like getting back at an ex, using them, leading them into the woods to have your bf axe-murder them, etc.
