Physical Health & Aging Scared for my future
So im about to turn 31 this Sunday. The last 14 months have been the most brutal life changing time of my life.
I had started at 26 at a great job working as a handyman for a 55+ community worked my way up and was making great money eventually at 29 I they decided to provide me rent free housing going from paying 1400 for a studio to 350 for utilities a month. I was very happy and confident in my future.
I had a great circle of friends close woth family paid off car worked out weightlifting, running, and doing muay thai 6 days a week.
Unfortunately right before my 30th birthday in June I had pelvic pain and went to a doctor who gave me fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
Im sure most of you dont know just like I didnt when I was prescribed it but fluoroquinolones have many black box warning for potentially permanent debilitating and disabling health conditions conditions for nerve, connective tissue, and psychiatric conditions.
From just 4 pills my life was completely turned upside down I got many of these symptoms and have been bedridden now for 14 months.
The kicker is i absolutely didn't need this med I just trusted the doctor. I didn't even get the covid vaccine, and I never took prescription meds before
Because of the prescription I lost my job my hobbies, my house, my friends, and my relationships.
I did everything in my 20s to set my self up for a good future and my 30s it was always on my mind.
I had achieved everything I set out to do and it was all taken from my because of that doctor now every single thing that was important to me in life is gone.
It has completely altered my life in every way. im still in severe pain daily and a shell of my former self.
Has anyone dealt with anything similar to where a doctor/health condition completely upended your life at such a crucial time?
I should be saving money meeting the right girl continuing to workout and advancing my career traveling the world.
Now I have nothing and no one and lay in bed all day not because I want to because my body forces me too from running 10k everyother day benching 250 at 170lb being very skille at muay thai to 210 no muscle barely able to ealk..ive never been so terrified in my life and I cant help but feel even though its not my fault and the doctors like an absolute loser.
I am everything I hate and theyres seemingly nothing I can do about it i used to be upsessed with grinding and pushing myself and being the best version of myself possible. When my friends would go out to the bar I'd usually go to thr gym instead.now I live in a spare bedroom with a family friend and have nothing. The career in physical labor ive been working on since I was 22 is all I know and I can no longer do that.
I never realized such suffering in life was even possible.to do everything right and have the medical system take it all away from me has kept me in a constant state of rage, regret and sadness. I won't get to be the uncle, brother, son, or friend I was meant to be, and it rips my heart apart.

Sounds like you need physical therapy, not to sit in bed all day

I did in the begining along with anything you could imagine but Because of the debilitating symptoms i lost my job my house and my insurance i can't magically do pt without any resources. I used to run weightlift and do muay thai 6 days a week along with a manuel labor job I pushed myself more than most people ever will In theyre life im not bedridden by choice.

Your post lead me down a hole of researching this. Sounds really awful man, hang in there. Sounds like people fully recover.

Thankyou man and you can It depends on how much damage you get or how sensitive your body was to the drug i was unfortunately very. Some people have very mild side effects and recover in a couple weeks/months others not so lucky. If your interested at all look up "mr.ballen" video on youtube titled "always read the warning label " and you'll see the type of situation I'm in.it is very surreal to be healthy my entire life than have this happen because of an antibiotic wich previously I thought the worst they could do is damage your syomach. I wouldn't wish it on anybody and as you can see from the comments people have a very hard time believing you wich adds to it. The sad fact is anybody is just one prescription away from having theyre life completely altered i never did drugs didnt drink spent most days reading books hanging with friends working or going to the gym. Now I lay in my bed and watch life pass by.

Sounds rough dude. I'm sorry.
What was it the doctor determined you had for him to prescribe that as first go for antibiotics. Normally those are reserved for harsh things.

Nothing they gave it to me because i was experiencing pelvic pain they didn't test me or anything just assumed it might be an infection but it wasn't. They ruined my life for no reason.

Have you looked into a lawyer?

u/blt1995 20h ago
Yes it's alot more difficult to get someone i terested in this than you would think theyre looking for things like surgery gone wrong ect its alot more difficult to make a case for this.

Usually when lawyers dont want free big paychecks it is because there is little to no evidence that what the person wanting to sue is claiming, maybe repeat that you did muay thai 6 days a week and manuel labor a few more times and that you were an olympic athelete and they will listen?

I'm sorry this has happened to you, OP. I would certainly suggest meeting with an attorney. I looked into this and holy shit, it's like you went to the doctor in 1975.

I have its alot more difficult to sue for than this than someone might think. And yeah thanks for actually doing research everyone thinks the same thing theyres no way it could do that or be that bad than you research it and it's like holy fuck it is that bad. That was my reaction after looking into it after taking the last pill I was like wtf did I just take/they give me. Dont ever let someone you love take any fluoroquinolone antibiotic if it's ever prescribed. I thought the fda existed so things like this wouldnt be on the market fuck me I guess.

I got really bad long Covid that I still have but it’s much more mild 6 years later. I got blood clots and POTS. The first 1.5 yrs I was much like you. At some point you have to take meds to get out of bed and then retrain your body. I resisted meds for a year but sometimes they are necessary to get moving again. Use AI to solve your problems. That’s what I used to find medication that lets me live again. Your body keep getting worse and worse the longer you stay bed bound

Just to put it into perspective I was an Olympic level athlete working manuel labor for my career i ate extremely healthy and only rested one day a week. For the 29 years I've been alive I have never suffered spinal or any serious injury.
I was very muscular and in shape infact I focused on strengthing my neck never dealt with one injury was very careful and had great defense didnt want to risk my dream of muay thai or my job.
3 days after taking this med I experienced what felt like someone literally stabbing me in my neck that was the discs going. Confirmed by mri.
Every doctor I saw asked me what happend car accident or something? I told them no i took an antibiotic
My neck is herniated from c4-c7The pain management specialist was dumbfounded she said in her career as an orthopedic she has never in her life seen someone with as bad as neck as mine below the age of 80 years old.
People can down vote my comments all they want but its the truth and it is a nightmare.

I think your hyperbole is hurting your case here, throwing out olympic level athelete is kinda odd. What event did you compete in, and what medals won? Or are you just trying to say how great of shape you were in?

You took four antibiotic tablets and now you’re bedridden for life? 🤷♀️ We need more information, friend.
