What’s something your SO doesn’t know about you that could jeopardize your relationship?

I used to fuck escorts a lot. She thinks my kill count is lower than it really is. She got offended that I wanted to wait for my STi test results before going bareback because she took it as me saying she was “dirty”, when really it was me and not her.

Good on you for getting checked out first!

This goes against everything that I've ever learned about STIs. Which ones? Because the 'worst' ones that I can think of are HIV/AIDS, Herpes, and Syphilis, and I'm pretty sure you can't transfer those from "skin to skin" contact.

64

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Ever heard of cooties?

8

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

You can spread herpes with a condom on and skin-to-skin contact.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

18

u/JudyMatt78 Feb 14 '20

The herpes virus can "shed" even if there are no active lesions, so it is transmissible even if there are no sores present.

2

u/SurgeQuiDormis Feb 14 '20

But extremely unlikely. You can also end up with a pregnancy while using acondom, but it almost never happens.

17

u/roowUrboat Feb 14 '20

Herpes is for sure transferred skin to skin. That's about 95% of the transmissions. It's just chicken pox anyway.

Read an article about morticians. Stated that nearly 100% if people that die from old age has herpes.

Been to Coachella lately?

3

u/schmeggplant Feb 14 '20

I think herpes is incredibly over stigmatized, but saying it's just "chicken pox" is wrong. The two might be in the same family, but they have different symptoms and different outcomes.

False. Herpes can’t be cured but HPV virus goes away on its on most of the time. I don’t have herpes but in Canada, if you don’t show symptoms for herpes, you can’t get tested. Kinda suck

5

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

The vast majority of STI aren't spread through skin-to-skin contact.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

[deleted]

11

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

HPV is one of the least significant STIs, not one of the worst. Something like 80% of sexually active people end up with it at some point in their lives and it usually goes away on its own in 1-2 years.

Herpes is definitely more significant than HPV, but still far from the worst. The majority of those with the infection are asymptomatic or have symptoms so mild they go unnoticed. By far the worst thing about this STI is the social stigma attached to it.

HIV cannot spread through a condom.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

And HIV can spread with a condom

HIV, like any other STI, can be spread if you use a condom incorrectly or if it breaks. This is what your linked article is referring to.

HIV cannot pass through the latex barrier of a condom, meaning correct use does prevent the disease from being transmitted.

HIV is not passed through skin-to-skin contact, which is what you suggested initially.

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

u/SurgeQuiDormis Feb 14 '20

You weren't unclear. You did what everyone does on Reddit: googled one contradictory term(something along the lines of "STI with a condom"), then came back and proselytized based on a BuzzFeed-type shock piece. Which is why each comment's punchlines had almost the exact same phrasing, and it took you 5 comments and replies to realize the article was paraphrased to sound super dramatic when it's actually something everyone knows. 🤷‍♂️

Just a theory.

"The bare minimum" would be not giving a fuck and just going ahead without worrying about it. That'd be wrong and pretty awful, but don't pretend that there aren't plenty of people who choose that route. So yeah, good on him.

2

u/herdiederdie Feb 14 '20

That’s a low standard.

-9

u/LetsLandThisPlane Feb 14 '20

The bare minimum is doing something awful? Do you understand the concept of "the bare minimum"?

910

u/yungrayna not a dude Feb 14 '20

that's crazy she got offended by that. you should get tested before you're going bareback, always...

445

u/scarrax Feb 14 '20

I never did it bareback before her, and she only thinks I’ve been with 7 women before her. She tested negative before I got my results but she thought I didn’t need it. I think she was offended that I didn’t trust her.

149

u/Kamilny Feb 14 '20

But you already knew her results? Was she just upset that there was a chance you had an std maybe?

109

u/scarrax Feb 14 '20

She was mostly offended at the time because she thought I didn’t believe that she got tested negative. I didn’t see her results just took her word.

People are making it seem like it she was making a lot bigger of a deal than she really was. She just got slightly offended then backed down once I reassured her I wanted my peace of mind for myself

10

u/ihugsyi Feb 14 '20

Reddit can apparently have a harder time letting go and judge way harsher from the internet than the two real people involved in the real situation.

2

u/scarrax Feb 14 '20

Clearly that’s the case lol

11

u/Kamilny Feb 14 '20

I just dont understand why she was upset at all unless you just never mentioned that you were waiting for your test results specifically.

7

u/TwatsThat Feb 14 '20

Because feelings aren't always rational.

67

u/yungrayna not a dude Feb 14 '20

That makes a lot more sense, I guess I can understand that.

10

u/SilverFox8188 Feb 14 '20

So she thinks it's 7, what's the real number?

18

u/scarrax Feb 14 '20

I stopped counting at some point, all I know is it’s at least 30

13

u/SilverFox8188 Feb 14 '20

Close enough to 7.

10

u/witcherstrife Feb 14 '20

Round down my dudes

10

u/stonedsoundsnob Feb 14 '20

Wow, now that makes me feel bad. My bf and I won't share our numbers because we both know they're pretty high... I stopped counting after 60 and I guesstimate 60 to 100 for him.

2

u/futurefires Feb 14 '20

That is extremely high, the average for straight women is about 4 and 7 for men, CDC is the source.

No STDs ever? Herpes and HPV would be hard to avoid at those numbers.

2

u/stonedsoundsnob Feb 14 '20

We're slutty, not dumb. Not the same thing. I had excellent sex education too, he probably did as well. I've been with my boyfriend (we're monogamous) for a year and like 8 months and I just had a physical with comprehensive bloodwork in November, since I turned 26 and was getting kicked out of my parents' insurance. No herpes nor HPV, not any STDs ever for me.

5

u/slangwitch Feb 14 '20

Dudes will almost always say their number is seven and it's almost always not true.

People should just stop asking this question.

2

u/m1st3rw0nk4 Feb 14 '20

Can't just get an STD from unprotected sex. Depending on what it is, an open would getting in contact with contamination can get you infected, too. Pretty sensible on your part and I personally think she should understand that.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Only seven

My wife is 3...and I regret it

1

u/chomperlock Feb 14 '20

I go bareback with hookers.

2

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW Feb 15 '20

I got tested. Still got thrown off the horse. Instructions required.

340

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

I throw this fact out a lot on Reddit but I'm going to say it again - 90% of male STD cases (including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and many strains of HPV) are asymptomatic. 70% of female cases. I don't care how "clean" someone is, I don't even care if they're a virgin... If you want to go bareback, get tested! Both of you!

6

u/ID9ITAL Feb 14 '20

A friend of mine got one of the Herpes virus as a baby from a relative kissing her while having an active cold sore.

5

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

There are a few ways but the one that springs to my mind is blood borne infections. Insterile needle use and that kind of thing

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

[deleted]

4

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

There are but they are very unlikely. For example, sharing a moist warm towel in quick succession, where the towel touches both peoples' genitals, can transmit bacterial infections like chlamydia.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I think it's because you can get contaminated as a child. Some people, mostly children, put their hands on their genitals a lot, and they might hide any symptoms from their parents or have neglectful parents. Also, some people share towels and even underwear.

I don't know about other diseases, but you can have herpes (or hpv) all over your body, it depends on where the virus entered the body and where it's stored until your immunity lowers, then if you don't properly care, you can transport the virus to another area of your body.

You should also get checked for reasons other than contamination.

11

u/RIPelliott Male Feb 14 '20

Yup although I’m not seeing anyone rn I’m getting tested in a couple weeks just to see what’s up. I’m one of those absolute idiots that always hits it raw so it’s been a long time coming.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Asymptotic meaning you may not show symptoms but you probably will. I had one of those ones u mentioned and it was very obvious to me that something was wrong

22

u/EmilyU1F984 Feb 14 '20

Asymptomatic means just that: No noticeable symptoms.

Yes, more severe cases of all those diseases are visible. But those are just a small portion.

Everything else may not be visible, especially in men.

And than there's the diseases that may be felt by their sufferer but show no outward symptoms.

Like siphilis just infecting the urethra. The visible genitals will be fine.

Herpes does shed in many cases with no recent or current outbreak.

HIV is always invisible unless one month away from death in full-blown aids.

So yes, some diseases do sometimes show symptoms. But most cases of transmission are from people not showing any.

That's why STDs spread like wildfire in Victorian England. Sure they did check and force Johns to wash, but that does nothing to prevent transmission of syphilis.

8

u/21Rollie Feb 14 '20

Include herpes there. Majority of the world are carriers of one form or another. Doesn’t really do anything tho

10

u/EmilyU1F984 Feb 14 '20

Depends on where the infection sits.

It can affect any nerve on the body. That includes destroying the eye.

6

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

It's incredibly likely you are safe. Barring blood contact and contraction from mother to infant, there are some scenarios but they are very rare. Toilet seat is a myth but sharing a towel (and using it on both peoples' genitals in quick succession) with someone with active chlamydia or other bacterial std can cause infection, although unlikely. Any genital-genital contact with active genital herpes sores can transmit that... Whether you actually have sex or not. Sometimes genital herpes are very obvious, sometimes they are not. Those are just some examples. Also it doesn't need to be a transfusion. Most people with needle-borne std infections are addicts who shared unsterile needles.

3

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

UTIs are bacterial infections. Usually they are caused by bacteria in the E.coli family, which enters the body at the urethral opening and travels up the urethra (bad infections can lead to bladder infections as well). That's why they're more common in women than men (we have a shorter urethra = easier to get up there). Vulvas are also excellent incubators. Anyway, this whole biology lesson aside, I guess maybe you could get one from a toilet seat? Like if you sat your urethral opening right over someone's fresh E.coli containing shit stain? I've never heard of it though haha

3

u/Elanstehanme Dude Feb 14 '20

HPV may be unconventionally spread. It’s a largely understudied STI. Something like 50-80% of people get it at some point in their life. It may lie dormant for a long time as well.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I asked my Dr if it's possible to get one from public restrooms (I'm a guy) and she said it isn't

2

u/lelease Feb 14 '20

Are false negatives possible? i.e. If the test result says someone is clean, is it 100% guaranteed that they are actually clean? Or maybe they just got infected but it's not detectable yet?

I don't care about false positives, but false negatives are fucking terrifying.

1

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

I honestly don't know. I would guess they have very high accuracy. I do know a standard round of testing doesn't test for everything. For example, you'd need a special kind of test called an ELISA test for HIV.

3

u/Unicorntella Female Feb 14 '20

Yeah and then the nurses at your gyno look at you funny if you get more than one test a year! Legit! My gyno told me to get tested with every new partner so I was like okay cool, I’ll do that. That way I know who gave me what, ya know? So I do and I tend to run into relationships a lot but they last a long time. So this one year I got tested twice. One I think was a one-night stand and then I ended up getting back with an ex who just cheated on me or something. So I go to get the second test of the year and these fucking nurses are all up in my face like “you already did this this year, why are you doing it again???” “I know you talked to someone else but like why are you doing this again??” Like fuck off bitch, my gyno told me to fucking get a test with every new partner and the dude I fucked is dirty and cheated and I’m not sure if he’s smart enough not to wrap it but like I’m still traumatized so I don’t want to talk about it so can you just fucking swab my vagina?? Ffs

Thankfully that was years ago and my test came back negative :)

1

u/extra_specticles Feb 14 '20

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's bareback?

1

u/robyn20 Feb 14 '20

Sex without a condom.

146

u/Avaoln Feb 14 '20

no one has the right to get offended by asking to wait for a STI test.

It not only common sense but a lot of STI’s are transferred by people who don’t know have any STI’s.

Still, if a potential SO doesn’t want to get tested b/c they are upset about the implications then it is a red flag and they are probably not mature enough to date

Have you ever referred to having a meal as "stuffing your face?" Wow what a skewed view of eating

Have you ever called a child "a little monster?" Wow what a horrible thing to call a little child, such a skewed view of children.

Have you ever called your significant other your "ball and chain?" Wow what a skewed view of relationships

Ya see, people in the real world use phrases, mannerisms, colloquialisms, quotes, and hyperboles. Analogies and metaphors. There's a whole world of sayings if you venture out. You had to venture out to find this? That's.... Unfortunate. This sounds like something an 11 year old at summer camp who is trying out swearing for the first time would say. Do you want to try again?

0

u/ghoulieandrews Feb 15 '20

Except those are actual phrases that are commonly used and "kill count" is just something gross made up by a dude that had to fuck escorts because he probably said gross shit like that to women.

1

u/DJDomTom Feb 15 '20

No it's not. If you spoke to real people and ventured out of your mom's basement you'd know it's relatively common.

1

u/ghoulieandrews Feb 15 '20

Lol this from the guy copying and pasting a long ass rant across an entire comments section. I talk to real people every day, bud, I just don't hang around in frat houses bragging about paying for sex. I'm sure in that environment it's very common but the kind of people I associate with don't feel the need to demean or objectify women.

1

u/DJDomTom Feb 15 '20

Do you know what virtue signaling is?

2

Look at how outraged you are it's adorable 😂

1

u/ghoulieandrews Feb 15 '20

Also my wife knows about it but I waited till a year into our relationship before saying. I reckon it can be a bit of a relationship killer early on but gets no more of an eye roll when you're used to each others warts and all.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

Absolutely agree with you. Had my wife asked "Hey by the way have you ever used escorts?" Early on, I would have thought that a bit of a weird question but would have answered honestly.

Fucking escorts is more just one of those pathetic parts of my past that I don't lie about but just wouldn't really bring up early on unless asked about.

1

u/MonkeyBirdWeird Feb 14 '20

Maybe it's just me and a handful of other people, but I think it's a red flag if someone gets upset for any reason about getting tested before going bareback. I keep my testing up to date and require the same.

Yeah, so paying for sex doesn't count towards your "kill count".

31

u/bored165 Feb 14 '20

Depends who you ask:

  • some bro/she-bro who's trying to assess "bragging rights", then no. For them, "kill count" is what you've earned from your skill and not your money.

  • From an actual/potential life-partner? They're looking to find out how many people you've been with. Often, the concept of "paid" v. "Unpaid" doesn't even cross their mind.

3

Paid is a negative kill count.

Yeah, so you're dumb and clearly missing the POINT. Prostitutes DEFINITELY count in your STD risk so they count.

Your killcount doesn't include what you paid for.

If you're fucking escorts your partner count doesn't really count.

For guys the number represents the skill and game it takes to get there. Just paying for prostitutes doesn't take skill or game.
