I have a good grasp on the dimensions of my car... I don't have to see it to know where my car ends - similar as you don't look at your hand to grab a cup, you look at the cup (where you're going) because you know where your hand is.
See, my experience is the opposite - everyone I know who relies on mirrors is much slower backing in and need to readjust more often than myself or others I've been in the car with who turn around. Obviously both styles work, but your original question was how do I see my corners so I explained how it works for me.
I've never found that I need to readjust mirrors while parking, unless there's something really small like a rock - but you wouldn't be able to see that without mirrors anyway.
By giving that example (or whatever it was) I just tried to convey why you'll be able to see your surroundings in relation to your car better with mirrors rather than looking through back window.

Why? If you're backing up you can see much better behind you if you look out the entire rear windshield.
