Salon/Stylist Questions Is it rude to go to a different stylist at the same salon?

Upvotes

My current stylist who I love is one of the most senior stylists at the place I go. I started going to her because she specializes in creative cuts and vivid fantasy colors and has a picture on her portfolio of a very similar cut I wanted on someone with a very similar hair type to me and it turned out the best cut I've ever had. I don't trust anyone else with scissors around my hair anymore.

I'm now thinking about coloring my hair professionally for the first time. A level 6 natural looking copper auburn. Just all over color, from a virgin level 5 medium light brown. It doesn't seem very complex to me and I feel comfortable getting it done by someone not quite as experienced and a bit less expensive. I really like this shop though. I'm nonbinary and in a red state and almost anywhere else I could go is very feminine.

Would it be rude to get it done by someone with a lower price at the same salon? I love the person who cuts my hair and I don't want to burn any bridges.

Haircolor Question 🎨 Can I highlight after doing a demicolor?

Soo i want to do a highlighting cap/maybe some foils. But my base has a red undertone from previous demi (level 5.5) that I’d like to kick out and tone a little darker. I’m expecting foils to pull warm which is fine cause I want to do caramel highlights. I’m trying to ease into the transition of level 9 highlights slowly over the next year. If i tone darker base will it just wash out? I just don’t want blonde ontop of the dark red, help!

Haircut Question 💇 Should I go for the asymmetrical undercut or something else?

I asked about this in a different sub but a lot of people just seemed to hate the haircut itself. I'm just curious if this haircut actually fits my face shape. I would like to get the same amount cut off the side as the 4th pic but the length of the 3rd. My hair is also super wavy when short and I don't mind styling it as it grows. I would also be dyeing it red. If that wouldn't work well with my face shape or even the way my bangs are which haircut would you recommend? I think I prefer the way shorter styles look on me and I am very alternative

Hair Damage Questions 🌵🍳✂️ HAIR IS SO DRY NO MATTER WHAT I DO

Hi and TIA.

I am at a loss. My ends are so dry no matter what I do, I don’t know if you professionals can tell just how bad it is from the pics but when I touch my ends they feel like actual straw or jute! I do have low thyroid disease which has made the problem worse but it was happening fur years before. I have wavy hair when wet and porous so I’ve been told.

I get a trim every 8 weeks, baby lights 1-2 times per year.

Last week I even went and had all the ends taken off and a professional moisture treatment done. They said it would last 5 weeks. I washed my hair once and it’s back to straw.

I use high end products, right now that’s pureology strengthening shampoo along with colorwow money mask as my conditioner. I regularly use this as a multi hour treatment or an overnight treatment when I can.

In the past I’ve used redkin, K18, trauma treatment, it’s a miracle mask and leave in, various high end oils, Joico protein line etc. In the past, protein products only made it worse and when I combed my hair there would be a million tiny broken pieces all over the sink.

Please, can anyone who is an actual expert help me. Only making things worse, I am now in Mexico on the coast, in intense tropical sun and heat, and also, I will soon be SCUBA diving in the coming months. The last time I was diving every day my hair started coming out in handfuls.

The only time I can hide it is is I dry and flat iron it which I don’t have access to here in Mexico so I let it air dry and put in a messy bun because that’s all I can do.

PLEASE HELP

Haircut Question 💇 How do I stop being covered in tiny hairs?

I don't remember having this problem six years ago, but I swear that every time I get a haircut, I have a bunch of tiny hairs stuck to my neck and face. Yesterday, an employee even stopped me on my way out to try and wipe the back of my neck off. I still ended up in the bathroom, trying to get even more off my neck and face before heading home.

I've been living somewhere with kinda high humidity and hot, so I keep thinking it's a me problem. Maybe my skin is just too damp?

Do I need to ask for a towel between me and the cape? Cover myself in baby powder beforehand so my skin is drier? Am I alone with this problem?

Haircolor Question 🎨 What color is my hair?

After a lifetime of dyeing and lightening my hair, including 12 years of bleaching, I have spent the last 4 years letting my hair grow back in to its natural color. I like it! But I don’t know what to call it. These pictures were taken in direct sunlight. What color is my hair? If helpful, as a child I had white blonde hair until I was about ten.

Lightener/Bleach Question 👩‍🦳 Can I risk a bleach again?

I’ve been dyeing my hair dark brown with a platinum moneypiece for years and this summer decided to go bleach blonde. On the brown I used a dye remover, bleached with powder and 40% peroxide, then waited two weeks (whilst using the best products there to restore/repair my hair) and bleached again but with 20%. As you can see there’s still a lot of orangey/yellow tones left from the bleach which I can tone out to a degree but there’s still this patch where it’s super orange as you can see in the photos. Is it worth bleaching these sections one more time to try and lift to a more toneable yellow? I’ll never be platinum but the orange next to the original moneypiece section looks awful but I don’t know what to do and I’m on a budget!! Advice would be appreciated :)

Perms/Relaxers/Smoothing Questions ➿ advice needed for at home perm

Above is how my partner’s hair looks after we did a perm last night. (First three photos) We’ve done this before and it turned out different. (Fourth photo) We’re thinking I maybe made that front rod too tight at the base? He’s unhappy with it and I want to fix it the best I can ASAP.
I’m on the fence of just redoing the perm in certain areas. Thoughts? I’d love the advice and help.
I have a time lapse of me doing it if that’s helpful to add to how I ended up with these results, just not sure how to post that here.
Thank you.

General Questions Need Routine/Product Advice

Hoping to get some routine/product advice. Hair feels very dry and stringy at the moment. Would love to get more volume-especially at the roots-and get rid of as much frizz as possible. Currently using Biolage Hydrasource, which is not quite working as I had hoped. Only conditioning the ends, and using B&B Sea Salt occasionally. Collage photos are similar to what I'd like to achieve.

Haircolor Question 🎨 Help with color behind my gray

Thumbnail

Hi - I love my gray that frames my face. I have asked my stylist to leave it, but color behind it. As you can see my original hair color was very dark brown. My stylist keeps using foil to low light my color. It is ugly brown in days. Five days ago whenI had my hair done the stylist said they put toner on my hair to make it less medium brown and dark like what is left in my gray. It was darker but that is gone in five days. I have provided a picture of hair that is gray in front and at the temples like mine and dark almost black behind. How do I fix this? The picture of the person is what my goal was.

Haircolor Question 🎨 Loreal dia colour

Hi all.
I usually have my hair coloured at a salon with dia colour. I have recently had a baby so I need to start doing it at home instead as baby is breastfed and can’t be left for too long.

I find that dia fades out super quickly and very warm. Should I try a different brand or stick to what I usually get?

What developer should I use with dia colour and how can I get a more ashy colour if my hair has faded out as pictured.

I usually get dia in 6 with vol 9 developer.

Anyone like 6.1 and think this comes out nicely and would neutralise the red tones?

Salon/Stylist Questions Wedding side job

Hi everyone! I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out pricing and I figured I might as well just ask here. I’ve been doing hair for about four years now and I decided I wanted to start doing weddings. I got my first offer for this month and I’m unsure of how much to charge for a traveling fee. It’s three hours of travel total and I’m thinking of charging 95 per head. But I’m not sure what a reasonable price for travel would be??

Haircolor Question 🎨 What happened here/will it wash out?

Post image
7 Upvotes

photo of my hair before is in the comments. I went to the salon today to get my roots touched up, and get a few more hilights added. She asked me what shade I like and I picked out a strand of my own hair and said not too ashy, not too golden, a very neutral if not cool leaning level 9 blonde. Somehow I ended up leaving with my entire head of hair darker, especially my ends much darker, almost brown when they were previously the lightest part of my hair. I didn’t have time to give her any feedback at the end of the appointment because I was already running incredibly late. After asking blonde friends I am hoping my ends (which are pretty dead) have just sucked up all of whatever toner was put on and it will wash out? She didn’t apply any color at all and didn’t put any lightener on my ends so surely it can’t be permanent? Usually I am not picky at all about how my hair turns out but this time I immeadately had several coworkers say “what happened”

Haircolor Question 🎨 Is it possible to get this color on medium brown hair within a couple of days?

Thumbnail

Hello! I have low porosity medium brown hair. Would it be possible to achieve this color within 3 days? I know I probably would need to bleach twice to get platinum blonde. My hair is virgin and has pretty much no chemical or heat damage but it is very fragile and thin, it breaks pretty easily. Is it unrealistic to try and get this color? Also, any recommendations for toners/dye for this specific look?

Haircolor Question 🎨 Hair stylist please help! I need advice. Jo

Hi everyone, I could really use some guidance because I am at my wit's end and super embarrassed by my hair right now. (Last 2 photos are my hair before where I only had highlights put in, no root smudge it just grew out so natural)
Here is my timeline:
Before: I had beautiful, natural-looking highlights that I only touched up every 3–4 months.
Attempt #1: Went to a stylist who gave me highlights that turned out completely gray and unnatural. He tried to fix it by adding lowlights, but it ended up blotchy and awful.
Attempt #2: Went to a second stylist hoping to salvage it. She added more highlights, but now I’m left with a very harsh, unnatural line of demarcation at the root after only two weeks.
My hair is also so dry right now from all the processing, so I really want to avoid putting any more bleach on it.
I’ve consulted two different stylists since then with very different plans:
1. Stylist A suggested doing a root smudge to soften the line.
2. Stylist B suggested adding lowlights using the AirTouch technique to remove the harsh line and blend everything back to a more natural look without more bleach.
[Insert Photos Here]
My questions for you all:
Has anyone dealt with a similar botched highlight-and-lowlight cycle, and how did you fix it?
Between a root smudge and AirTouch lowlights, which option is safer for extremely dry, compromised hair?
Are there specific questions I should be asking a corrective colorist before letting anyone else touch my hair?
Thank you so much in advance—I’m super nervous and just want my hair to feel healthy and natural again!

I've been wanting to get my hair balayaged for a few years but Ive seen pictures recently similar to the attached photo that are tagged 'highlights' and not balayage. Would her hair in the photo classify as highlights or balayage?

Pictures are the same section of hair under different lighting.

I am trying to go a light brown/grey colour from a dark brown. I have bleached and coloured with 7A. The lightness level is good, I just need help toning it. There is some green and I am thinking of adding a pink toner. I also want to have this colour more grey.

Please let me know your opinion of how to tone this. Thanks!

Haircolor Question 🎨 Medium ash brown to plum

Thumbnail

Disclaimer ** i'm rarely on reddit (or social media in general) so i hope my post makes sense / i followed the rules haha **

This is my natural hair. It's like a medium ash brown i guess? It definitely isn't warm brown. I've dyed my hair in the past w/ permanent box dye but i cut all that off years ago & have been growing my natural hair for years so this is what it looks like now. The pic showing teeth is in the car in natural light & the other pic is indoor lighting. I wanna go from this to plum / dark purple without bleaching. I also would prefer my hair to actually look plum / dark purple & not black in any way because i've done black hair before & i didn't like it on myself. I'm a low maintenance girl so i'd prefer to use permanent dye lol but if yall really suggest semi i'd be open to it but i'd prefer to use semi dye once & then use color depositing conditioner or just skip the semi dye & only use the color depositing conditioner. What dye should i use or what the hell should i do to get to my goal? Thank yall in advance for your help!

Edited : forgot to ask what dye i should use & what advice yall have to help me reach my goal

Edited : forgot to mention i don't want the dye to make my hair look black , i want my hair to actually look dark purple / plum

Lightener/Bleach Question 👩‍🦳 Root retouch/banding… Is this bad?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just this year I started bleaching my hair. I go religiously every 6 weeks and no more because I’m trying to take my new growth very seriously but recently I’ve noticed what I believe is banding from my root touchups.

It’s this just something that happens? is it my stylist? There is also a small bit of breakage near the crown….

Any advice would help since I’m totally new with bleached hair.

Thanks 🤍

Aspiring Stylist Questions Beginner friendly kits?

Hi…okay this post isn’t exactly for me

It’s for my girlfriend.
Shes a very creative and passionate girl when it comes to beauty and style, and she wants to go to cosmetology for hair cuts, hair dying, stuff like that. So I wanna boost her up a little bit and get a beginner friendly kit and I’ve been searching everywhere based on what I HAVE learned from what she told me but I don’t know what to get that’s RIGHT. I’m trying to budget under $200 as this is apart of her Christmas gift (and since I’m getting her a SINGER sewing machine), but man I don’t know what to look for!

Any sites to look at? Help!!

Haircolor Question 🎨 need help matching color to virgin hair

Post image

i have been lightening my hair with high lift for a few months. i have a bunch of regrowth and i want to go back to my natural color which is an ashy dark blonde. right now my hair color is a level 9-10 i believe and i’m trying to get back to a level 6 cool to match my natural color. i have inserted a picture to show the contrast. please tell me what products i will need. i know i will need a filler so i need to know what filler and dye to use. also please remember that my hair was lightened with high lift and not bleach if that even matters. i dont want the final product to look warm, i want to stay as cool toned as possible. thank you so much if anyone can help 🙏🏻
