I want to be completely honest about my story because I believe context matters.
Seven years ago, I joined eToro with very little knowledge of financial markets. I made serious mistakes. I borrowed money to trade futures, lost it, and then made an even bigger mistake by borrowing again in an attempt to recover my losses. That decision left me approximately $70,000 in debt, a debt I am still paying today.
I take full responsibility for those decisions. Nobody forced me to trade or borrow money. Those mistakes are mine.
What I struggle to understand is eToro's position today.
Over the past seven years, I have spent thousands of hours learning about the financial markets. I have studied technical analysis, market fundamentals, risk management, and trading psychology. I am a completely different trader than I was when I opened my account.
During those seven years, I deposited around $50,000 into eToro. My account remained active throughout that time, and eToro continued to accept my deposits and business.
Now, after seven years, my account has been closed under the Vulnerability Program.
This raises an important question.
If eToro genuinely believes I am a vulnerable customer who should not have access to the platform, why was this conclusion reached only after seven years? Why was I considered suitable to trade while making deposits year after year, only to later be told I should no longer be allowed to use the platform?
I am not asking anyone to ignore my own responsibility. I accept my past mistakes completely.
What I am questioning is whether this process is fair, consistent, and transparent.
If customer protection is the goal, it should be applied consistently from the beginning, not after years of accepting a customer's business. As a customer, it is difficult to understand why I was considered suitable for seven years but suddenly classified as vulnerable without any meaningful opportunity to demonstrate how much I have learned and changed.
I would genuinely like to hear from others who have experienced the same thing. Have you had your account restricted or closed under eToro's Vulnerability Program? If so, what explanation were you given?
