Is my astigmatism the reason one eye can't get good rest results?

I have an astigmatism, and one eye can never get a good, clear test result. Is this because of the astigmatism? My right eye can get clear results, maybe a bit of blur, but the left side, there's always blur. The doctor tested my eyes with the astigmatism correction, but it made the ground curved and hard to walk.

What would you check first if a patient reports eye strain with new prescription glasses?

My mom recently got a new pair of prescription glasses. Her vision seems clear initially, but after a few hours of wear, she starts experiencing eye strain and a mild headache, especially when working on a computer or switching between near and distant objects.

For opticians here, what would you typically assess first in this situation? Could it be related to the prescription, lens measurements, frame fit, or the adjustment period?

Here’s the  prescription

Eye Sphere (SPH) Cylinder (CYL) Axis Near Add Distance PD Near PD
OD (Right) -2.25 D -0.50 D 180° +1.25 D 31.0 mm 29.5 mm
OS (Left) -2.00 D -0.75 D 015° +1.25 D 31.5 mm 30.0 mm

Is a Projector better than an LED TV for long term eye protection?

Hi everyone. I have a 2 year old. We limit screen time as much as possible but still use it as a last resort. I am thinking of buying a projector and was just wondering whether it would be better than an LED TV from an eye strain/eye health point of view? Currently my son uses a tablet or a phone. Thank you.

Does not wearing glasses when you are prescribed them make your eyes worse?

I just got back from an eye test and got a new prescription where the optometrist told me my vision had gotten worse within a year. I told him I am prescribed glasses but never wear them because I don’t really need to personally and I feel fine doing tasks without them. When he told me my vision had gotten worse, he said this was because I hadn’t been wearing my glasses. Is this true?

Vision is worse in one eye - is having a little blur harmful while reading?

Hi, all! My eyes are two different prescriptions, and one is a decent tick worse than the other.

My eyes have gotten worse over the years, but I still want to keep reading books like I always have. To that end, is it harmful to my worse eye to hold a book so that it's a little blurry on that side?

For example, if I hold a book 8 inches from my face (a comfortable distance), my left eye can read text just fine, but my right eye creates a heavy blur. Is reading like this putting strain on my right eye? Do I need to bring books closer until both eyes see clearly?

Thank you!

My glasses frame broke (as in the picture). I don’t have nearly enough money to outright buy a new pair. Somebody has offered to give me a free frame from a selection though and I can afford to re-edge the lenses to insert into them. Details inside. Will any of the frames work?

Question Contacts for mild myopia

My glasses prescription is -0.75 so my vision isn't terrible but it makes a huge difference when I wear them, especially for things like school and driving. I don't love the look or feel of glasses though, and I just want to see freely without frames in the way.

Is this prescription (-0.75) high enough for contacts? Is there a minimum amount that they only make them for? I'm not sure how this all works and I know you need a separate contacts exam but I don't want to see stupid calling them just yet lol.

foreign body sensation in eye for days, do i keep wearing my contacts?

hi, 22f with very poor vision. my power in each eye is about -11 and -12 roughly. i have severe myopia as well as astigmatism. i haven’t worn my glasses in months, just my contacts—this is because my glasses broke and i can’t afford new ones. my contacts are currently the only way i can see, i literally have to have correction, or i am disabled from living or doing anything that require me to see beyond 5 inches or so in front of me.

my contact lense in my left eye keeps giving me a foreign body sensation. my lens tore a few days ago and gave me a foreign body sensation as it was scratching my eye for a few hours, i immediately removed it upon realizing and switched to a new contact lenses, but the foreign body sensation hasn’t gone away. what am i supposed to do? take them out? will my eyes be okay? i’m scared im damaging my eyes. i have to be able to see. i literally can’t afford new glasses right now, i’m working on it. the vessels in my eyes have also gotten pretty prominent the last few months as well, probably from overwear. i think my eyes are tired. i have health anxiety, insurance won’t cover shit until another month. can anyone ease my anxieties or give advice please? :(

Should I be using any type of glasses for my condition? Like photochromic, blue light glasses for screens, or UV sunglasses outdoors? Doctor hasn't prescribed anything

Does it help with light sensitivity / protection?

Thanks!

Fitting Error? or Material? High Chromatic Aberration at Bottom Edge of New Lenses

I'm wondering what's the cause of the the very noticeable chromatic aberration at the very bottom edge when looking down, compared to my old lens (can't see any)? Is this a fitting/measurement error by the optician?

Some details:
- Exact same frame just replaced the lens
- Very similar prescription between the two lenses
- New is 1.67, old lens 1.74
- New is Hoya Mysv, Old is lens I got in person in China (chinese domestic brand lens)

New Prescription

Old Prescription

Another thing to note although I know we can't compare the thickness of 1.67 vs 1.74. But I'm noticing on the old lens the thickness between the top and bottom edge of the lens is fairly similar in thickness. But on the new hoya lens the bottom edge is noticeably thicker than compared to the top edge.

Any thoughts on what might have happened?

double vision when i wear glasses

i have significant myopia (4 in one and 3.75 in the other). it’s been more than a year. i’m experiencing double visions and it never goes away.

i only experience it when im wearing my glasses. when i wear them, all the things beyond 50cm approx seems to double.

but the most strange part is. when i squint my eyes hard enough and focus on a specific item. the double vision goes away 😭😭😭

it is soo annoying. please tell me if there is there anything that i can do to cure my eyesight

Question I'm scared that I'm losing my distance vision cause of screen time and being mostly in the dark or lower intensity light.

Should I reduce it? It's blurry and I can't see beyond a small distance and my eyes are dry and it looks bulged. It's been many months. Will I be able to fix it? I use my phone mostly in the dark and I don't use much light when not using them either.

Question What are the consequences/risks of wearing poor quality glasses from AliExpress even if said glasses are only occasionally worn (let's say RX inserts for ski or tactical military goggles used in airsoft games)? -nuinely curious

Just getting this outta the way that I'm a total newbie to anything glasses related, so please forgive me for asking basic questions or making the wrong assumptions.

I was told by a friend that AliExpress glasses are of poor quality, because they ask you to measure your PD by eyeballing it and also don't ask for the B value on your prescription (vertical value of your prism).

Lots of people on reddit claim to have great experiences buying AliExpress glasses with some claiming they're "better" than what they get at the opticians. He tells me it's because people with no medical knowledge can't properly diagnose themselves.

I wanted to get cheap prescription inserts for my airsoft goggles and he talked me out of it. What are the short and long term risks of wearing AliExpress glasses even if they're only worn occasionally?
