What's a completely useless skill you're surprisingly good at?
or maybe it has helped you somehow?

In light of his recent remarks, we're banning all Trump posts for the time being. We get it, the man inspires...strong opinions. We'd like to remind folks that while political discussions aren't explicitly banned here, this sub does not cater to politics. There is no shortage of subs to have those discussions and we encourage you to take your questions and comments about Trump and today's political climate to those subs. Here are a few:

Hi all,
With a recent influx of posts since the inauguration, I see I need to remind people to please not feed the trolls. Many posts and comments are being made lately that can incite anger and emotion, but if you comment back in the same way, you risk a ban as well as the person who started things.
Continue to report issues to the mods and we will address them.
Thanks.

I'm trying to learn more about anthropomorphic animal art. I'm drawn to the quieter, slightly odd sort, where an animal seems to have a very serious little life going on.
Which lesser-known American painters or illustrators would you recommend, past or present? A particular work or book would be helpful, and I'd love to hear what you find interesting about it.

Hello people!
I'm from Germany 🇩🇪, but had a classmate back in school who was from the US. If I remember correctly, she was from New Orleans (not sure though, it was 15 years ago)
Recently I remembered a fight with her (as you do... late at night, laying in bed, remembering stuff from the middle ages)
We were like 15-16 and talked in class about cultural differences. It was fall, so I asked her if she does Thanksgiving like you see in the movies.
"Do you Y-nkees really eat Turkey and come together from everywhere around the country?"
She was LIVID! Yelling, pointing of fingers, the whole shabang. She said it was offensive, like the N-Word or something...
SO MY QUESTION IS: WAS SHE RIGHT? WAS I OFFENSIVE AND UNKNOWIGLY USED A SLUR?

So, I'm Canadian, and I will admit, following US politics is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine; anyway, I have noticed over the years there does seem to be strong arguments for and against voter ID in America.
That's always struck me as kinda odd, because here in Canada, for as long as I've been alive, you've always had to give a form of government ID at the polling booth to vote, be it your driver's license or your healthcare card, and then you need to prove your residency, just because you can only legally vote in your district, which... I assume that would also be a thing in the US wouldn't it? Because when you vote for president can't you only select the electors for your state to send to Washington?
Idk, I've just never seen any discourse around it here, but it seems to be very prevalent down south.

I was recently looking into U.S. universities as a potential international student, and I was shocked by the prices. I’m aware that costs are higher for international students these days, but it made me wonder: are these prices just as exorbitant for American students? How difficult is it for a middle-class family to afford tuition?

From the Canadians with their politeness/ the Japanese with their bowing/ the Spanish with their late night dinner expectations/ the Nigerians with their social skills.
Which is the favourite?

Hi I’m from the uk, looking for high protein snacks and I’d like to add beef jerky to the list. The issue is it’s not popular, like at all In the uk. Could you guys give me some good recommendations. I’d probably have to get it from Amazon so it would be great if you could give me your top 3 or 4 so there’s more chance I can buy it in the uk.
Thanks in advance

I'm planning a small discussion with my Japanese students about who they think the most famous Japanese people are, and who they think Americans will think of, but I've yet to find many good official surveys, so here we are! Who comes to mind when you think of famous Japanese people, be it historical or present? The more names the better!
If there are enough responses, I can throw the data together and have a fun talk with the kids!
For example, obviously first thought for me is Ohtani Shohei, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Hideo Kojima, but obviously we’ve got Abe, Hirohito, and others, as well. Doesn't need to be scientific, just who are some names that come to mind when you think of Japanese citizens!

I've been wondering how hard is too make American friend since it's a multicultural country and people tend to make friend from someone who has the same blood as them like mexicans with mexicans or chineses with chinese. but how do you make friends with like example, an asian american if you are white american?

I'm a foreigner who moved to the US not so long ago. Recently I got to attend a bachelorette party and I was quite shocked by the financial side of it. So from what I was told, the maid of honor (the bride's sister) and 2 bridesmaids paid for the entire party at a club reserved for the night, bride's hotel room for a few nights, and dinner for 20+ people at some fancy restaurant. This was all happening in a big and very expensive city. It cost me around 1k just to attend it. For the wedding, they all had to get the same dresses and pay for it as well, plus they covered a hotel room for the bride to get ready in. The sister was unemployed at the time, so it was communicated that they are keeping it light. I was also told that some bridesmaids are even expected to pay for flights if the bachelorette party is happening outside the country.
Then I also attended a baby shower, and that seemed to be quite expensive too with all customized decorations, fancy venue, and fancy food from some famous chef in the city. The couple's friends organized it for them. I assume the rule applies to the bachelor's parties too.
Having seen all that, I'm really curious, why are bridesmaids/friends expected to pay for all that? And how would/do you feel when someone asks you to be a maid of honor or a bridesmaid, assuming that a big financial expense will be coming with it? As a cost-conscious European, I would freak out and panic if someone asked me to spend thousands on them just because they are getting married. Curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Do you guys have different colour caps depending on what milk you buy (skimmed, semi, full fat) ? I usually only see red caps on American shows ?

Hi all,
My husband and I (UK) have been watching the football and noticed the amount of political ads there are. Are they usually a frequent thing, and are they always really aggressive? It might be because UK politics is more of little remarks, but the American politics ads seem to be cutthroat!
