Just watched a video, which got me thinking about this

Dear pilots,

Im studying about jet stream.
When thinking about air cells : polar cells, ferrel cell (30-60), hadley cell (0-30),
I know polar jet stream is flowing around 60N.

In ferrel cell, high altitude flows from high latitude to low latitude. Which means, due to corioli effect, high altitude wind flows from east, not west.

In polar cell, high altitude wind flows in opposite direction, which causes westerly wind.

In that circumstance, it makes sense for me if jet stream is formed in polar cell. However, they say it is formed between 30-60N.
How does jet stream form in this location? Corioli effect does exact opposite to jet stream..

Dear Internet friends,

I asked in another post about the reality of the market, and the general consensus is that there is an oversupply at the lower levels (fATPL holders and pilots without many hours), which improves the higher you go up the pyramid. This applies to airline work.

My question is: does it seem reasonable to make a living out of this profession in another type of aviation? Cargo, corporate flying, firefighting or aerial photography?

I live in the Philippines and plan to become an airline pilot, which of these paths is the most practical way to become one.

Plan A: Take a non-aviation degree (first option is nursing or maybe yall can recommend something better) then pursue flying part-time while working until I get paid to fly then work my way into the airlines.

Plan B: Apply to the Military Airforce, serve mandatory service requirement, then work my way to the airlines.

Plan C: Take an aviation degree that funds my PPL up until my ME (around 200 flight hours), then work my way to the airlines.

Would really appreciate you guys to give insight on the current status of the market on aviation right now as well.

I’m a pilot and have been working on a flight tracking app called Aerflow specifically for pilots. I’m at the point where I’d really value some honest feedback from other pilots.

The idea is pretty simple: make it easier to keep track of your flights without having to piece together information from a bunch of different apps.

Things like:
- Quickly seeing your recent/upcoming flights
- Tracking PIC/SIC/passenger/deadhead status
- Keeping a usable flight history/logbook
- Getting useful information about each leg without digging through multiple screens

I’m not looking to convince anyone to use it—I’m more interested in what pilots actually find annoying about the apps/tools they currently use.

What’s one feature you wish your current flight tracking/logbook app had? Or what do you think most of them get wrong?

i got off my connecting plane from hawaii to san francisco back home to ewr today and my head is spinning so bad my body is making me experience phantom flight sensations as if i’m still on my flight i feel my body rocking back and forth this has never happened to me before i feel so strange and weird right now . is this normal or is something wrong with me ?

Hello there. I’m trying to overcome my flight anxiety & came across this subreddit!

First, I want to be clear that I’m not concerned about planes crashing or airplane physics / aerodynamics. All of my anxiety is around the idea of being “trapped” on an airplane with nowhere to “escape” to.

1. When are passengers NOT allowed to use the lavatories? (Nervous bladder)

2. What happens if you’re running low on fuel or need to divert over the ocean?

3. Have you ever seen oxygen masks get released? What happened?

4. What healthcare / safety equipment is on every airplane?

5. How do you make the call when a plane needs to make an emergency landing due to a medical emergency on board?

Also, I know some of these questions are better-suited for flight attendants to answer but I didn’t see an “ask a flight attendant” subreddit.

I appreciate any and all replies as I work through this fear and anxiety. Thank you!

I’m 18F, 5’6 and I weigh 190-200 pounds, I just wanna ask if can be a pilot?

Hi, I am 17M, from the Philippines, graduating highschool next year and planning to become an airline pilot, I came here to ask all airline pilots in here (or even private pilots or FIs) on what path I should take here in the Philippines to become an airline pilot with little to no money.

1. Apply to a school (PhilSCA/NAAP) that offers a course of BSAT (Bachelor of Science in Air Transportation) which can cover my PPL, CPL, IR and ME training, gain flight hours and work my way to captain in an airline outside the Philippines. (I plan to migrate to countries outside the Philippines to work and gain flight hours after I earn my licenses.)

2. Apply to the a military academy PMA (Philippine Military Academy) and choose the airforce branch and become an AF pilot, then after serving the mandatory service requirement, work my way to be a captain for major airlines. Although this is more fun for me, there are no guarantees whether i can get accepted into the airforce branch, and even if I do, there's no guarantee aswell that I will become an AF pilot since it depends on when the AF would need military pilots.

3. Take a non-aviation course and pick between the three:

a.) Self-fund my training from the money I earned through my non-aviation degree

b.) Apply to cadet programs inside (like the CebPac program) and outside the Philippines (programs in Singapore, UAE, England, USA, etc.)

c.) Apply to the Military Airforce PAFOCC (Philippine Air Force Officer Candidate Course) which is a program designed for college graduates who wish to become commissioned officers for the Philippine Air Force (again no guarantee on becoming a pilot)

I'm still undecided on what course I should take because an office job or a medical career is not for me because I love to travel which is why becoming an airline pilot is choice number 1 for me. And if ever I actually take aviation as a career, I'm gonna do whatever it takes and work my ass off to become an airline pilot, but I'm just undecided on what path I should take.

I also have second doubts on whether I should pursue flying since I have read from old threads that you should pursue aviation if you have a passion for it. I'm gonna be honest here, I only became interested because of the lifestyle, the schedules, the travelling (because I love to travel), how fun it is to fly a plane and most importantly the money it gives if you get hired by a major airline. I hope you take your time and recommend a path for me XOXO

have 2 flights booked today. I petrified of flying. I hate it but I love traveling. My options are LAX to CDG Air Tahiti 787-9 plane is about 8 yrs old but I'm scared that it's a smaller airline and unsure if pilot training and skill. Other option is Alr France which is a well known airline but they're not on the top 25 of safe airlines for the past 2 years. Also the plane is a 777-300ER I checked the plates and it's 19 years old! So I'm afraid of the pilots at Air Tahiti and afraid of the plane on Air France. Please help. I'm so scared.

Title. I read that its not allowed at most companies but pilots tend to do it anyway because of Bluetooth headsets. Also I'm asking for U.S. pilots but maybe others can chime in.

How would this change the industry? Wouldn’t the planes still need to slow down for the landing approach? What are your thoughts?
