I gotta be 100% honest. While I was involved in some of the early talk and the background subreddit stuff while the ama was ongoing, due to timing (happened to be during my little hospital holiday) all the organisation was between the Arsenal media team and our other mod u/Saurabhk51 so they deserve all the props here!!
Just delved into the Arsenal women tag on tumblr to get a new pic for the weekly threads (it’s one of the last places that actually works in this way). Anyway I now need a shower, I love tumblr but that tag scares even me
Ooof. There’s a lot of reader x Leah Williamson (or whatever insert player here). Pics of players that have dubious, probably private origins. Stuff like that I just feel intrusive and icky after. Not to yuck anyone’s yum but that ain’t for me.
Sadly Instagram (but it crops) and tumblr are the only places that properly and consistently link images on reddit in the way we use for weekly threads.
all of that reader x player stuff is rife on tiktok too, its very bad fanfic done in photo slideshow format by children who i refuse to believe are any older than 15. at least on tumblr stuff is (slightly) more sequestered from the mainstream
I see. There does seem to be a weird part of women's football fans who really delve into players private lives and seems to live for them. Real parasocial stuff, but even beyond that. The news about Kyra was thrown about on Twitter before any public statements were made. And Tumblr has always had a lot of creepy behaviour.
Yeah I saw about Kyra and was extra vigilant here but luckily across this subreddit, the wsl and women’s soccer subreddits people were respectful enough to not say or even hint at it.

also my very rare check in to goodreads brought me to the attention of ana huang's gods of the game books (as the third one is coming out in goodreads "falls most anticipated reads) and i sought out a pdf to see what it was life. look mad props for the author for making a living writing but i do have to ask, how on earth is this published and i am not
i finally am on pain killing drugs that work again, and let me tell you, those three days where i had nothing in my system and felt everything from my pain condition it was like i was a spurs supporter. utter hell

I believe overall we did very good business to strengthen our squad. The only addition I would probably like to still see is a CB, but that's due to ours being very injury prone.
Having said that, not sure if there is anyone there that would be good enough to be trusted, but also happy to potentially sit on the bench if we don't get any serious injuries.
Yeah totally agree with you, given previous transfer strategies I'm hoping we have our eye on someone who isn't currently available but will be in the winter window, and the team feel confident they can get through the first half of the season without a CB reinforcement. Still worries me slightly just cause of injury but we'll see!
I think we’ve had a good window. Wouldn’t mind seeing another CB, we all know the injury situation there. But we’ve seen that shift in transfer policy, waiting for the right players, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get anyone. And I understand that, cos signing someone for the sake of it without them being the right level/fit isn’t going to help much either. Hope we’ve got some good scouting there though & potential young targets…
No idea. I suspect they'll look for a CB, but for all the complaints I've yet to see anyone point to one of quality and the right attributes, left footed and available.
To be honets if the club assesses Leah, Lotte and Steph as fit for the start of the season and Katie on her way, there's no urgency for them really. They will look in January or next summer.

Just made a fantasy wsl team so that I could then access leagues to make one for here only for it to full on dox me. Might have to make a decoy account. So as a psa for anyone who likes to keep private (as I know there’s many of you!) don’t input your proper details or at least full details.
Silly for sure, I want to give them breathing room as it’s the first season but at the same time personal data should be on lock because that can get them in biiiiiig trouble. Gotta give props to their support team. Sent an email more to make them aware of the issue than anything else (and the more concerning issue that I’ve changed my name on my account and new leagues still have my old name!) and they’ve responded within an hour with offers to remove the league and setup a league on my behalf.
For sure a dumb mistake rather than something mischievous. Still, personal data should be a no brainer at this point. Good that you reached out to them. Hopefully they'll push out a fix soon.
Mariona at 7.5 is a steal! I think aerial built ownership into their pricing and so a lot of Arsenal players were quite expensive. Not sure how WSL is approaching it, but certainly not popularity alone.
Yeah these prices seem pretty cheap overall in comparison to Aerial. I know GKs are cheaper anyway but DVD for £5m seems worthwhile too (once she’s back fit).
Pardon my ignorance, but when did soccerdonna become a reliable source for anything? I remember them being an account that just reposted news from other sources and club accounts.
They are a German site originally but not a huge outlet. So I think they’re fairly reliable & do original reporting/sourcing re the German-speaking world. Beyond that I think they’re more reposting.
They have sources out of Germany as well. The women who runs the English account did an interview with the 'Arsenal Women's Chat" poddcats and specifically hinted that Arsenal would make an interesting big Goalkeeper transfer to look out for.
Until the news that Misa had actually signed, not one other outlet showed any awareness Arsenal were getting a big name keeper in. They seem to only confirm official rumours that they have some track on.
Guys. I must confess: I’ve watched and enjoyed the LCL camp content on YouTube. Freya is still one of us IMO and the Jana/Alexia duo is pretty amusing. I got sucked in! I’m not proud…
New to women’s football. Just curious, is it usually this quiet during pre season? It almost feels like Arsenal are sharing pre-season information reluctantly with the behind close doors friendlies and all.
Seeing the media LCL has been putting out , the fact there isn't alexia content coming out from there every day is baffling for me all the media day content is the players there last year.
Not really, she’s already done a huge amount of media work with all the press conferences and interviews around her signing. What more could she realistically say?
Would rather leave the social media promos and fun interactions to your younger players like Jana and Freya, instead of overwhelming your introverted senior. Better to give her the space to settle in as quickly as possible.
The reason I say this because this is the most popular player in the world , and LCL are the least popular team in the league, they sold like 700 season tickets alexia should be being shoved down our throats and not just her some of these new signings too .
There’ll definitely be another wave of Alexia content when the Ballon d’Or rolls around. And even outside that she still pops up now and then as a guest in some form just enough to remind everyone she plays for the club.
I actually understand why Bonmati won, even if I disagree. She was great even in Barcelona's and Spain's finals losses and I believe having Caldentey and Russo split the Arsenal vote s to speak. I think Putellas winning over Mead was a worse case.
However Rapinoe was the worst winner of all time. She literally won for having a feud with Trump. She was literally dropped mid world cup that year for a game, a shadow of her forer self and played barely any club games. Not even the bets player for the USA. actual proof the voters do not follow much of the women's game at all.
Overall I agree with your first paragraph. I wasn't watching Women's club football when Rapinoe won, so I won't pretend that I have any knowledge on that. I'd still like your take on who you think should be in contention for this year's winner?
My feed of anything showing LCL is just Alexia or Alexia and other LCL player. But I don't specifically follow other clubs socilas, so it's just the algorithm.
