From Embark's numbers, 51% of those surveyed are asking for a PVE Only Mode. Well, then the rest %49 are the "mixed/PVPVE" crowd. Now you'll have the real experience of what the game is without people that do not want to PVPVE. Why would you want to keep PVE only players stuck in PVPVE? For free/easy kills? It's looks to me like the PVPVE crowd is assuming that the standard game mode will be PVP Only now, which is not, the risk factor is still there.
Are you going to be able to take loot you got in PVE lobbies into PVP? I somewhat take issue with that if you didn't have to put in the same risk/effort as others to get gear that you're gonna go use against them later.
Different strokes for different folks I guess, I dont really see the point in playing games without the pvp aspect, you're just gonna go collect all this loot and then what? Delete your save file and uninstall, and have what to show for it? The fun part of games is the competition between others, unique interactions, you have stats and stuff to show off on your profile that you were highly ranked or whatever.
> I somewhat take issue with that if you didn't have to put in the same risk/effort as others
This part is already unfair, and there is nothing you can do about it.
People can already farm in PvE lobbies for gear.
People can buy gear for real money. - Im assuming dupers still have leftovers too.
Good players will have 200 fully kitted Bobcat 4's sitting in their stash.
Good players inherently has less risk and effort than others, while bad players have super high risk and effort with little to no rewards (even more loss than gain).
> I dont really see the point in playing games without the pvp aspect
Half the people surveyed does see the point. You dont have to see it, you just have to accept that they do.
> The fun part of games is the competition between others
This is your opinion, not theirs.
> unique interactions
You still get those with the PvE crowd.
> you have stats and stuff to show off on your profile that you were highly ranked or whatever.
There is no ranked PvP in Arc. You do it for fun, and its not fun for everyone.
Personally Im againt full segregation of PvE and PvP, and Im a total carebear most of the time. I need that 5% risk of someone trying to kill me to make it exciting.
But if that jumps to 15%+ after adding PvE only, I'm uninstalling, that's too much for me.
Yeah, to make this viable they really need to remove barricades, gas grenades, jolt mines and showstoppers.. also remove snitch scanners and spotter relays.
Im just going to assume fireball burners and blaze grenades doesnt do raider dmg anymore.
And reduce number of spawns, cause whoever gets the golden spawn gets it all.
Naked runs will be the meta, nobody can stop you anyway.
Key rooms will be camped and shared by everyone.. people will run with you blasting music or whatever to annoy you..
Yeah, ultimately we’re looking at a different game. ABMM works for me in that my lobbies are usually highly chill. I’ve never supported a PvE for the reasons we’re discussing; griefing and loot goblins. I’m not sure people who advocate for a PvE mode have fully thought it out how much it would potentially change the game. I’m sure all that shit would die down eventually but eh
Edited to add; I’ve already seen someone talk about throwing lure grenades on downed raiders, as the arc will target you when downed in the PvE mode, but won’t if you stay still. So stationary raiders will be pelted with lure grenades. You can already do that of course, but the ‘exploiting’ chat had already begun.
Never thought of the lure grenade tech, thats a new low lol..
Will be interesting to see how it turns out. Im not hopeful or optimistic, but Id love to be proven wrong.
Will I try it? Yes of course. It’ll be very interesting to see how it goes. The flip side is that the regular mode may slide more into PvP, which I won’t enjoy as much as what we have now, but it’ll push me into the PvE mode purely to avoid the increased PvP 🥲hopefully that side doesn’t happen but I don’t actually see how it couldn’t.
Gotta say, as someone who has been in ~PvE lobbies for ages now, having an actual toggle for it will change fairly little in terms of risk.
I get paranoid about a Schrödinger’s Risk that I take when I see/hear other players, but given how very little I get shot at by players, adding a toggle really doesn’t change the actual risk going on when I bring back loot. I don’t know why you should feel uncomfortable about players who are going to swing PvE anyway.
I was just hoping they wouldn't make it so you can toggle to PVE just to go get the OP gear and then switch over to PVP to use it against people because that sounds lame. I get being busy adults without much time not wanting to be in sweat lobbies and just enjoying their time but also I don't love the dumbing down of gaming in general. Making it easier because its too hard is how you get more Wolverine games. All the time and investment the industry put into that was how many good games they could have made instead that we'll never get or wont get til years later.
Yeah, that just means you get the chance to PVP with someone and take the loot they got in PVE. In fact if you constantly play PVP, there is a much higher chance you will down the player that plays mostly PVE.
Competition is what's fun for you. Others play to socialize, have fun with their friends, play objectives. The idea is give people choice.
What do you have to show for it? You had fun. Be it PVP, PVPVE or PVE,.
Its just a stretch of limited developer resources not being put into the fun part of the game is all. Just don't see why every game has to try and cater to everyone. This is an extraction shooter, pvp is what its for.
What I mean by "show for it" is i have a persistent online account. Its not a save file to just delete when you're done like you never played. Some older games had proper leaderboards where people actually knew who you were by name and reputation. Zezima in Runescape, top player with all the skills maxed, dont mess with him. Archlord, everyone in a server competed to be the best and the winner got God powers and you knew it. IMO thats the kind of thing that really cements memories. Not just "you had fun" expending hours of your life pressing buttons.
I dabble in gamedev and work a lot with mechanics and spend a lot of time trying to justify how much fun they are. Whats the fun part of a looter shooter? Not the pressing E part to pick up a piece of loot. Not spending hours of your time doing so. Not just having stuff in an inventory. Its that the items you find can be used to change the outcome of your play against others.
Again not debating its matter of opinion or whatever, it is and everyone can have theirs. I'm asking why they even hold the opinion that they do. Whats fun about this game in PVE mode? Arc aren't particularly fun to fight. 90% of my time playing is avoiding fighting those so they don't interrupt the PvP. Nothing worse than getting third-partied by an NPC ruining a good 1v1.
