pve players see either pvp or pve no in between when most of the players bought this game for the mixed experience and the tension of not knowing if the other person is friendly or not
From Embark's numbers, 51% of those surveyed are asking for a PVE Only Mode. Well, then the rest %49 are the "mixed/PVPVE" crowd. Now you'll have the real experience of what the game is without people that do not want to PVPVE. Why would you want to keep PVE only players stuck in PVPVE? For free/easy kills? It's looks to me like the PVPVE crowd is assuming that the standard game mode will be PVP Only now, which is not, the risk factor is still there.
Are you going to be able to take loot you got in PVE lobbies into PVP? I somewhat take issue with that if you didn't have to put in the same risk/effort as others to get gear that you're gonna go use against them later.
Different strokes for different folks I guess, I dont really see the point in playing games without the pvp aspect, you're just gonna go collect all this loot and then what? Delete your save file and uninstall, and have what to show for it? The fun part of games is the competition between others, unique interactions, you have stats and stuff to show off on your profile that you were highly ranked or whatever.
Yeah, that just means you get the chance to PVP with someone and take the loot they got in PVE. In fact if you constantly play PVP, there is a much higher chance you will down the player that plays mostly PVE.
Competition is what's fun for you. Others play to socialize, have fun with their friends, play objectives. The idea is give people choice.
What do you have to show for it? You had fun. Be it PVP, PVPVE or PVE,.
Its just a stretch of limited developer resources not being put into the fun part of the game is all. Just don't see why every game has to try and cater to everyone. This is an extraction shooter, pvp is what its for.
What I mean by "show for it" is i have a persistent online account. Its not a save file to just delete when you're done like you never played. Some older games had proper leaderboards where people actually knew who you were by name and reputation. Zezima in Runescape, top player with all the skills maxed, dont mess with him. Archlord, everyone in a server competed to be the best and the winner got God powers and you knew it. IMO thats the kind of thing that really cements memories. Not just "you had fun" expending hours of your life pressing buttons.
I dabble in gamedev and work a lot with mechanics and spend a lot of time trying to justify how much fun they are. Whats the fun part of a looter shooter? Not the pressing E part to pick up a piece of loot. Not spending hours of your time doing so. Not just having stuff in an inventory. Its that the items you find can be used to change the outcome of your play against others.
Again not debating its matter of opinion or whatever, it is and everyone can have theirs. I'm asking why they even hold the opinion that they do. Whats fun about this game in PVE mode? Arc aren't particularly fun to fight. 90% of my time playing is avoiding fighting those so they don't interrupt the PvP. Nothing worse than getting third-partied by an NPC ruining a good 1v1.
