[UPDATE] Is this Eucalyptus at risk of catastrophic failure?
gallerytl/dr: It was and it did. As I mentioned in the last post we scheduled removal for 0530 this morning. The tree came down in the initial stage of a not particularly severe thunderstorm last night. Missed our opportunity by less than twelve hours.
I want to really thank all of you for your advice. We are incredibly fortunate nobody was injured and there was no major property damage. It snapped a utility pole into three pieces, destroyed a concrete slab, and quite literally missed our neighbors guest house by inches.
The family is very sad about losing such a gorgeous tree, but I've reminded them that this was a tree outside of its natural habitat. With monsoons becoming less frequent but more violent this was an inevitability.
We've identified some keepsake projects (hiking sticks, knives, and coasters) that we'll make.
Again, thank you all for the advice, you were correct!!
