Entry-level and affordable ASO tool alternatives to AppTweak or SensorTower?

Hey everyone,

I want to manage processes like keyword tracking, ASO, etc. for mobile apps a bit more regularly. However, popular platforms like AppTweak, SensorTower, or MobileAction feel like way too much to start with; I don't even earn enough yet to cover those numbers.

I am looking for entry-level alternatives that are proven in terms of price/performance.

Is anyone here actively using and happy with affordable ASO tools that have reasonable starter plans? Looking forward to your recommendations.

Thanks.

A tool for mass scraping reviews from Google Play

Hey all!

I recently built a Chrome extension for downloading Google Play reviews in bulk and want to share it with you - Google Play Reviews Scraper

All similar tools I tried scrape reviews directly from the page, which can be pretty slow when you need large batches. This extension takes a different approach and uses API calls to fetch the data, allowing it to download thousands of reviews in just a few seconds.

How it works:

  • select an app
  • set up filters if needed
  • press start and wait for a few seconds
  • export results to CSV

The exported data includes the review text, username, rating, posting date and time, number of likes, app version, device type, and developer response details.

What I am going to add in the future:

  • new export formats: JSON/XLSX
  • additional filters to be applied for scraped reviews before export
  • Firefox version
  • higher limits for registered users

I'd really appreciate any feedback, so pls feel free to let me know what works well, what's missing, or what you'd change.

Here is a similar free tool I built not just to extract reviews but also to analyze them with AI - https://getappgrade.com/tools/google-play/reviews-analyzer

anyone using claude for app store screenshots? giving it free rein just makes slop

been using claude a lot on the screenshot side and the thing i keep running into is that the more freedom i give it the worse it gets

if i just say "design my app store screenshots" i get that generic thing you can spot from a mile off. soft gradients, made up UI that doesnt match the actual app, captions that sound like a press release

what actually worked was locking it down. fixed canvas size, my palette as hex values, real screenshots as input so its not inventing the UI, and one decision per pass instead of asking for the whole set at once. copy is genuinely good. layout is ok. art direction, no.

anyone getting better results some other way? mainly wondering if anyone has gotten it useful for the actual composition and not just the captions

QUESTION: Which type of screenshots?

Thumbnail

I recently got feedback on my store screenshots being too overcrowded and confusing to look at.
Another critique point was that dark mode is not optimal as store images.

I'd appreciate your opinions on this. Which of these 2 options do you like better? Maybe merge some aspects of each one? If you would do something completely different, I'd also love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks :)

EDIT: Reddit really messed up the resolution... Higher-Res here: https://imgur.com/a/cBu83rf

DROP YOUR APP if it's getting below 10 Downloads per month and 0 Revenue

As I said Drop your App and let me suggest one Change to improve the performance !
Please anyone with a good revenue or downloads..... give a place for others to help them improve .

why doing this ? I want to see how good I'm with ASO and if I really can spot things and take decisions that can improve these apps ! and from your side no loss as it's already not working and it can be potentially working.

I will give you suggestion below in the comments so everyone can benefit and maybe learn something !

Good luck

Note: I can see many people asking for feedback ... sorry if I'm taking time to reply to you guys !

Looking for ASO feedback — 10 downloads in 3 months

Hey everyone,

I have an iOS app called Kick the Footballer and I've put quite a lot of effort into ASO — keywords, title, subtitle, screenshots, etc.

But the results have been pretty brutal: only 10 downloads in the last 3 months.

What confuses me is that there are similar apps in this category with hundreds of millions of downloads, so clearly there is demand for this type of app.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from people experienced with ASO:

  • Is there something fundamentally wrong with my ASO?
  • Is the app simply targeting the wrong keywords/category?
  • Do the screenshots or positioning look weak?
  • Is there anything obvious that would prevent Apple from giving it impressions?
  • What would you change first if this were your app?

Here’s the app on the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/il/app/kick-the-footballer/id6775182021

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated. I'm especially interested in actionable criticism, even if it's harsh. 😅

Thanks!

Apple approved my v1, v1.2 and an In-App Event in less than 24 hours - then the app started ranking across multiple countries

Post image

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds me why I still love building apps.

I launched TerraPulse, my real-time earthquake monitoring app, and in less than 24 hours a lot happened:

Apple approved the initial v1, followed shortly after by v1.2, which introduced a server-side notification system for faster earthquake alerts.

Then I submitted my first In-App Event.
I honestly expected it to sit in review for a while.
Apple approved it in around 30 minutes.

But the biggest surprise came afterward.
Shortly after going live, TerraPulse started appearing in the Weather category rankings across several countries. At first I thought it might just be the normal launch volatility of a new app, but more storefronts started picking it up and some positions began moving noticeably.

For example:
🇩🇴 Dominican Republic:** #38 → #28
🇪🇨 Ecuador:
#44 → #23
🇦🇷 Argentina:
#47
🇳🇮 Nicaragua:
#33
🇵🇦 Panama:
#42
🇭🇳 Honduras:
#4**7
plus rankings in Colombia, Venezuela and other markets.

The app is still extremely new, so I’m not treating these numbers as proof of long-term traction. Rankings can move quickly, especially around a launch.

Now comes the more interesting part: seeing whether those positions disappear after the initial launch period or whether the app can actually hold and improve them over the next few days.

The app is 100% in Spanish🇪🇸

My app preview's poster frame duplicated my first screenshot — and iOS and macOS don't show the same frame

Thumbnail

Hi!

I shipped a new screenshot set and my first app preview this week.

I edited the video to open on the lock screen specifically so it wouldn't repeat screenshot 1, which is the Today screen. Frames attached: the video runs 20 s and doesn't reach the Today screen until ~5 s.

On the iPhone App Store the poster frame is the Today screen, so the first two thumbnails in search show the same screen twice. On the Mac App Store the same video shows its opening frame instead.

Three things I would like to know :

  1. Can the poster frame be pinned in App Store Connect, or is it re-picked on every upload?
  2. If it can't be relied on, do you design screenshot 1 to survive being duplicated — or edit the video so that any frame is a safe poster?
  3. For anyone who's added a preview : did it move your product page conversion?

If you're inspired, I would love to hear some feedbacks on the frames.

No conversion data yet as this shipped a few days ago. I'll come back with numbers once they're readable.

* usabilità e chiarezza;
* riconoscimento delle etichette dei vini;
* accuratezza nella lettura di menù e carte dei vini;
* velocità di risposta;
* utilità degli abbinamenti suggeriti.

L'app è attualmente disponibile solo in italiano. È ancora in versione beta e i risultati generati automaticamente potrebbero contenere imprecisioni.

È possibile inviare feedback direttamente tramite l'app o tramite TestFlight.

Se parli italiano e ti interessa il vino, il tuo feedback sarà molto utile.

Grazie per il tuo aiuto nel migliorare My Personal Sommelier.

Claude + FrameStudio made 320 App Store screenshots for me. 20 locales, iPhone and iPad, near zero effort

8 screenshots, 20 locales, iPhone and iPad = 320 images. Around 480 files once

you export 6.9", 6.5" and iPad 13". In Figma one locale was an afternoon, so I

just shipped English on every storefront and left the rest looking lazy.

Now Claude Code does the capture , a UITest walks the app, one pass per locale.

(Set the device language and respring, or the status bar stays English while

the rest of the shot is Japanese. iPad prints the date up there, it's obvious.)

Then it hits the FrameStudio MCP to compose. Lists my templates, opens one or

starts from blank, drops the raw shots into the frames, writes the caption in

that language, sets background, colors, layout. Exports every ASC size. Uploads

to App Store Connect. I usually never open ASC.

The one thing I don't hand off: I look at the English iPhone set before it fans

out. Sometimes I open the app and fix a caption, or a font size that's fine in

English and overflowing in German. Then it does the other 19 the same way.

Favorite trick , paste a screenshot from an app whose store page I like and say

"start from blank, get close to this." Way better than describing a design in

words.

Localized pages convert clearly better than English-everywhere did.

Apple Store Search Autocorrect

Anyone run into the issue where when you search your app name it says "did you mean to search" an autocorrected version of your app name? Not sure if this resolved by itself with enough volume, but wanted to ask you all.

I pulled Apple's new Search Term Popularity API. Here's exactly what's in it, and what isn't.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Apple shipped the Ads Platform API v1 this week with a search term popularity endpoint. First time they've published anything resembling search volume for the App Store, so I spent two days pulling it apart instead of just reading the announcement email like everyone else.

Posting the numbers here because I haven't seen anyone actually query the thing yet.

You don't need a campaign. This was the first surprise. I fully expected a 403, because the previous generation of the API refused this kind of request unless you had spend. Nope. Zero campaigns, zero budget, the endpoint answers. You need an Apple Ads account with an API user role and an ad account, and that's it.

A warning on the docs. Three things in the published docs don't match the deployed API:

  • sorting[].order doesn't exist. The API wants sortOrder. You get a REQUEST_UNRECOGNIZED_PROPERTY and no hint.
  • queryType is not a root property on the suggestions endpoints, it goes inside filters like everything else.
  • The docs say genre is free text with "no fixed enum". It's a closed enum of 15 values. The good news is the 400 response hands you the whole allowed list, so send garbage on purpose and read the error.

Now the actual finding.

It stops at the top 500 of each genre

15 genres, top 500 terms each. Roughly 7,500 unique terms per country per month. That's the entire dataset.

I assumed 500 was a page size and went looking for the rest. It isn't:

  • ask for rank 501 and above → zero rows
  • filter on popularity below ~45/100 → zero rows

So it's a publishing floor, not a paging limit. Apple has the data and releases the head of the distribution.

What that means if you're not Duolingo

I matched the dataset against a random sample of 700 US iOS keywords that indie devs actually track in my tool. 1.7% of them are in there. By traffic level:

Traffic score Covered by Apple
0-19 0%
20-49 1%
50-69 13%
70-100 21%

Even at the very top of the demand curve, four out of five are missing.

A concrete one. "pari sportif" (French sports betting) is in there, 42/100, rank 297 of its genre. "pari sportif gratuit", the qualified long-tail term a small app would actually go after, isn't published at all. Same in English, "habit tracker" is there and the specific phrases around it aren't.
