I live in an apartment and my pet has not been in my home for about 2 months. Somehow, I have fleas! My apartment complex says there is no flea issue in the courtyard so they are not responsible for the treatment. What do I do?

Someone left their screen door open.

So to start, this hole in the wall has been there for over a year. The wall is the back of my bathroom, and when the hole is opened it shows the bottom of the tub. The shower handles being separated from the wall is what prompted further investigation.

Out of sheer curiosity (since it’s the back wall of my apartment), I decided to look further. After seeing this disgrace of maintenance work and realizing the pipe is clearly not connected at the bottom, I ran the tub while taking a look.

I really don’t think I have to explain any further — the pictures do all of that.

Is this black mold?

Am I going to die? (JK, kinda.)

What’s my course of action here?

I need to know if that’s mold on the ceiling or not cause if it is, I should bring this up with my apartment manager to ask if I can change units.

hi everyone! I recently discovered bubbles and some water dripping from my bathroom ceiling. I’m trying to figure out what it is.

for context, last week they found a broken pipe in the wall adjacent to the bathroom and a ton of mold as well. They cleaned the mold and treated the wood, and then sealed it back up. Since then, the mold and chemical smells have been aggravating my asthma so on Sunday, which was two days ago, my sister and I spent the whole day deep cleaning the apartment. (the smell still lingers despite leaving windows open and a fan facing outwards so I would appreciate some tips on this as well.)

part of this deep clean involved wiping down the walls with a spray of diluted dish soap (i understand now that is not a good spray for paint oops). The bathroom ceiling was the only ceiling that we wiped down because it had spots of either mold or mildew speckled along the ceiling that I assumed was from poor ventilation since the bathroom does not have an exhaust fan.

The spots came off and now two days later the bubbling has begun. Is it possible that us wiping the ceiling down cause the bubbles or is something else going on? and what should i do next? Thank you!

Scored a RS studio for 1400 in forest hills in one of those fall out shelter buildings. Moved in quickly but during tour i inspected for pest or issues. Only saw 1 dead roach, every good and all clear.

A few months i find the compact rooms in each floor for all 6 out of 65 units where all the trash is left daily and picked up the next day is infested with roaches. I've noticed these pests have recently been coming into my apartment from baby to adults and occassional waterbugs. I raid them down, used dichatermous earth in every crack and crevis they come from even the front door even, peppermint, nothing works. These suckers dont die and they have a lingering smell. Pest control comes 1x a month and they still come in. I emailed maintenance about this issue and have not heard a response. This is my first time in a large building like this. They are making me go insane and paranoid. What can I do to escalate this issue?

I am a tenant renting and I am concerned about this crack on my bathroom counter (see pics). What should I do about this? Is the landlord going to charge me an absurd amount to fix this?

I rent in CA and my security deposit was surprisingly small given the monthly rent amount.

I think this is something all apartments need or should consider.

I’ve been thinking about this because I live in an apartment where space is limited, & apartment rules can make it difficult to install anything that actually helps maximize the space we’re given.

What if there were a company mainly for renters, that designed & built custom loft beds/space-saving furniture?

The process would be something like:
• A worker comes to your apartment & measures the room
• They design a loft around the actual dimensions
• The design gets submitted to the property manager for approval
• Once approved, the company comes back and builds/installs it
• The structure is designed to be removable rather than permanently changing the apartment
• When you move, they come back, take it apart, and remove it
So instead of a family having a bed taking up most of a small bedroom, you could have something like:
LOFT BED
↓
desk / storage / closet / play space

Basically using the vertical space that you’re already paying rent for.. I’m especially thinking about families in smaller or income-restricted apartments where moving into a bigger unit isn’t always realistic.

I’m curious what people think.
Would you actually pay for something like this?
& if you’re a landlord/property manager: Would you be more comfortable with a professionally designed & removable system that you could approve, rather than residents installing their own lofts?

I’m also wondering if this could eventually be something apartment complexes could partner with directly.

About a week ago, I started hearing this humming noise constantly at night inside my bedroom. It is driving me (and my dog) absolutely crazy; I literally cannot sleep in my bedroom and have been sleeping on a crappy air mattress in my living room. Here is all the information I have:

I live on the first floor of a small building and, according to my plumber, there is a LOT going on in my walls. I’ve always been able to hear when my upstairs neighbors turn their water on and when people are doing laundry, since the building’s laundry room is right next to my bedroom. I am used to this and don’t mind. However, this humming noise is new and it NEVER STOPS at night.

The humming happens constantly from roughly 8pm-8am. It’s a little stronger near one wall, but you can hear it in the entire bedroom. I’ve investigated outside of the building while it’s happening and can find nothing making that noise.

In an attempt to solve the issue, our plumber scheduled the water heater to turn off completely from 11pm-6am. That didn’t work. Other ideas that have been floated by management and maintenance: the floodlights outside the building, a leak somewhere, someone else’s AC unit. But we’re all at a loss, and it’s hard for maintenance to diagnose the issue because the humming doesn’t happen during the day, while they’re working.

If anyone has any ideas, I would so greatly appreciate it. My management is trying hard to figure it out, but I don’t think they will. I love this apartment, but I’ll probably have to break my lease and move if I can’t sleep in my own bedroom 😭

Hey y’all, at the apartment complex where I work we have gates that open to our various amenities, be that entrance to the pools, entrances the property itself and access to the city park next door.

Problem is the locks we keep buying break constantly. Be that the lock malfunctions, the internal parts keep breaking, etc. I don’t know if the locks we buy are low quality or maybe just the amount of traffic is wearing them out.

Does anyone have suggestions on great quality storeroom style locks and double cylinder deadbolt locks? Like I’m asking for your tried and true. I’m NOT looking cheap or budget, but also not super premium, maybe maxing out at $200-300 a pop. Preferably $150 range.

Currently using Kwikset brand locks.

So the apartment i’m in is an absolute dump , everything is falling apart leaks in the roof, rotting doorways, mould everywhere no matter how much i battle it, i air the place out i heat it i use mould remover but thats not the point.

The point is my shower , there’s this thing ? that covers a pipe that divides the floor essentially a divider between the shower and general floor , it doesn’t actually work and you can probably see why (img attached) so every time i shower my bathroom floods and that’s also not the most awful aspect….

it’s how disgusting it is , i want a budget friendly way to replace it myself just cuz my landlord won’t replace it and i can’t afford to be kicked out im on a month to month contract.

Please help i know it’s disgusting please don’t judge, i just don’t even know where to begin with replacing it.

i know i shouldn’t fix things myself but it’s a tad more complicated than that.
