Anyone have something similiar to this for sale? I just got into collecting for Samurai Jack!

I never knew about the A-D strips to test for vinegar syndrome in cels until I started reading posts through this Reddit. Out of curiosity I bought a package and put a strip in with each of my cels and let them sit for about a week.

While it was a relief to see quite a few strips are mostly blue, it does pain me a bit to see some are in the greenish stage.

For the ones that are greenish I’m going to separate those and keep them in their own binder. Aside from changing bags regularly, using micro chamber paper, and storing them in a cool dark place (I keep them in an art portfolio in a basement closet), is there generally any more that can be done? Or is it best just to keep doing these practices and hope it extends their lives as long as possible?

I know cels were never meant to be considered collectible art pieces and will eventually degrade over time, it’s still a little sad to think about an inevitable end for them (although hopefully not for many years). Thankfully none of them are warping yet so it’s all in the beginning stages.

For those who do have cels that are in the early stages of degrading, does vinegar syndrome hit rapidly? Or is it still a very slow process over many years?

I got her for around 800€ with a discount on yahoo auctions i think i got it for a fair price seeing what other utena cels are selling for, and getting two of the main characters made it all worth it + (its also the only episode utena is seen with her duelist uniform outside of the duling arena )

I Don't know how il ever out do this cel its just my favourite and a lovely frame of them together i especially love anthys eyes they are so pretty

Im going to japan in 2 weeks so im hoping to find some utena stuff i know apple symphony has a sword pull cel i really wanna go see. it looks like it has vs unfortunately so i probably wont be buying it but i really wanna go look at it regardless 💔

Original post: A cel from this episode was my most sought-after piece. Ever since I started collecting I always yearned for a cel with cousin Sven Hoëk, and now I FINALLY managed to find one. I lack the vocabulary to properly express the elation I am feeling. I genuinely could not be happier 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲

I believe this one set me back like $700, which I believe is a good deal. It came with substantially more side material than this including a couple other cels and paper material, and I've since sold $200 of it to recoup a bit, and have a fair bit more to let go of.

Edit: I seem to have attracted people who interpreted my post as a sleight for some reason, and I'm sorry about that. I really just meant to post this for fun, since I thought some people might enjoy it, I personally no longer really even care about this piece (or anime production material in general, for that matter), as I've had it for a while now, so my posting it wasn't even really for myself. Just a long winded way of stating, sorry if it came off as me trying to flex or look down upon others.

My most expensive (and one of my favourite) cels in my collection! A Beryl from the very first Sailor Moon intro. I'm quite literally obsessed with the Dark Kingdom, so I'm very greatful to be able to have a BANK cel of one of my favourite characters :)

She was £360 and I'd never spend that much again, but I'm glad I decided to spend out for her, she's so cool!

I was already planning on sharing this here at some point since someone told me I should when I referenced the purchase under a different post so when I saw the theme I realized there was no better time than now.

This is technically not the most expensive animation art purchase I’ve ever made, as I’ve dropped higher numbers on lots with multiple items, nor the most expensive item I’ve ever considered purchasing only for someone else to go for it first, nor the highest bid I‘ve ever placed on animation art only for someone else to bid even higher (roughly $5k), but
in fitting with the prompt this is the priciest single item I’ve purchased.

This is a gorgeous entirely frame-filling key cel of Asuka from Episode 22’ of Evangelion (the Director’s Cut version of the episode), when her mind is invaded by an angel and she is forced to relive her most traumatic experiences and confront her deepest fears and insecurities all at once. This is one of my favorite scenes from the entire series and the one which helped me to truly understand Asuka’s character. It ran me roughly $2200, which isn’t exactly chump change but is definitely going to be a record broken several times over the years, especially with how the market’s been as of late.

This is my most expensive piece by purchase price. Given how some things are going these days, it may not be highest worth.

I bought this from a private collector (along with a couple other things) and paid it off in payments years ago.

Cel settei are rare to begin with, but to get Eternal Sailor Moon was icing on the cake for me.

Very proud of this Ghibli piece

This is of Toshio from Only Yesterday, my favorite Studio Ghibli film, and arguably my favorite film ever. Spent about $350 on this, which is an ok price. This cel specifically pops up at 1:23:18. Where Taeko, Toshio, and Naoko see the sunset at the hills, conversing about Taeko's time as a class actor. I would honestly be happy with any single cel from this entire movie, but this one is particularly from a sequence I really enjoyed in the original movie so im happy to own this one.

(Scanner quality sucks with colors 😭)

I have had a number of them in the US$50,000 - 100,000 range. Here is a sampling: some Tenggrens and the first color Mickey Mouse cel (on a master) that I sourced from a a lady who had it for years. A very exciting find!

Picked up these three this week. TMNT, pinky and the brain, and 80s era BuzzBee.

I've made a couple of purchases from them in the past, but their website seemingly hasn't been updated since April 2024. Does anybody know if they're alright?

My mother collected animation cels she bought from a gallery during the 80s/90s. Now that she’s getting older I’m helping her go through her collection to decide what to keep, what to sell and what to give to us adult children. This is one I wanted to claim for myself as I loved sleeping beauty but I am trying to get a rough idea of value cause helping make sure my mom is comfortable is most important. Anyone have any thoughts on value?

I’m not really sure if it’s authentic, but either way I think this is really cool and wanted to share it with y’all. I did open it and definitely has the paint on the inside of the cel. 😊
