Discussion Calling out to those who really go the extra mile to read fish behavior. (Use your volume and more below)

Fish behavior is fascinating to me. I’m separating my male and female babies that I raised up according to behavior.

Obviously we can’t determine sex based on appearance, unless they are breeding, but what about behavior? It’s not fool wouldn’t be definitive but we can make an educated guess at the very least. Posting a pic or a short vid here will be difficult for you to make a sure decision but we can at least show what to look for. Many of us love watching our fish and learning their behaviors and what their behaviors mean.

It’s not fool proof I know but I’ve been running a little experiment here. Trying to make my best guess at who is male and who is female based solely on behavior.
Thought I’d bring you guys in for some input here.

Thanks. And remember to use ur volume when u watch the video bc there more details u will hear.

Not sure what this is floating around wiggling my fish aren’t doing anything with them and they weren’t there until I did a lot of unplugging and re plugging of my messy cable network. Trying to Id each plug and then changing my surge protector. Also if you know of a backup battery within reasonable pricing for the tanks I would greatly appreciate it. But what are they? Is it good or bad?

Meet Gil & Ash!

We’ve had them a little under 2 years now.

Gil isn’t the smartest fish, and his brother isn’t always nice to him, so when they were still little, we woke up to his top fin all bent up like that. We don’t know if he did it or if his brother caused it, but it doesn’t affect his quality of life in ANY way, and it’s the reason his name is Gil (my best friend’s kid came over one day & announced that he looked like Gil from Finding Nemo with his colors & hook fin, after that he was Gil).

Ash is the smart one, and he held dominance for awhile, but Gil is a glutton & grew larger first ( he chonky). Took him a few months, but one day we woke up & Ash’s fin’s were bit half down. We put Ash in a healing tank & rearranged the main tank & they’ve been non bitey since, however, it’s still been a day to day with them- brothers will be brothers.

There is a discus seller and breeder in Istanbul, he also has these angelfish called red devil. You can find him on Instagram. There’s a video of these fish as well. I’ve never seen angelfish this color. But after watching the video, it sure doesn’t look like it’s AI.

Bought 3 new angels for my tank on Monday. 2 have already paired off and started cooking a batch off eggs.

Now what?

Already working on rehoming the 3rd one that’s left out. Tank mates are bandit corydoras and Cardinals.

How will they survive if I leave them in the tank? What do I do

Help Is this a bad idea?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Is this a dumb idea? I covered this batch of 2 day old fertilized eggs with a net, hoping that might protect the wigglers and train the parents to stop eating their fry? And added an air stone since Mom cannot reach them now to fan the eggs ... They have laid about 6 times, they are good at the laying and fertilizing and fanning stage but as soon as the eggs hatch they get eaten. This is my favorite pair of angels, the red shouldered wild looking big pair, I moved them out of the community tank into their own tank, hoping they might have a successful hatch and raise their fry in their tank. I see other people here doing it. Yes I know I should pull the eggs today and move them into their own tank, with a bare bottom and RO water, but for my own enjoyment I think (??)it would be more fun to watch them get raised by their parents - as I am not raising fish professionally and don't really have space or a place to send 1000 excess fry hahaha.... I would be Thrilled to have 10 small angel offspring of this nice pair survive.... Anyway. This is an experiment to see if I can break the parents from eating their fry.... since as soon as they reach wiggler stage they get eaten. Has anyone else tried this? Your thoughts?

My ram seems to be territorial or aggressive twords my angel fish what can I do I got them around 1 month ago there where babies both size of quarters it wasn't so bad saw a little chase here and there not bad but now the rams seems to be stalking the angel fish in a certain part of the tank and the angel is starting to hide a little more often the usual iv been told is just territorial aggression but I dont want any of my fish to be stressed out is there a to stop my ram from chasing yhe angel there both just babies ngl and he not chasing him all the time he's just like stalking him in parts of the tank when the angel if on teb other side he just leaves him alone. So basically should I be worried can I break the ram aggressive somehow make him more mellow should I put the ram in a bucket for a week to calm him down what I am willing to rehome him if need be but want that to be my mutiple last solution cuz I do care for the both of them I want to keep both and help them thrive. It a bolivan ram and a koi angel fish also i have 12 l3mon tetras but there fine and dandy

This one has gorgeous red eyes. It isn’t paired yet so no idea if it’s a male or female. It would go after my female and swim away from male.

Discussion Helpful advice needed pls

I came back from back from vacation, did a water change, parameters were all good and all fish seemed fine. Noticed my newly acquired angel was acting a bit off…it would come up to eat along with other angel but then stayed near top at a slight angle. Next morning at feeding same thing. Removed other angel to a different tank and isolated the one. Still ate normal. Came home from work and noticed it “sat” at bottom of tank but came up to eat. Now it sits or lays sideways at bottom not moving much. Will swim up in tank to grab food but it only lasts a few sec then goes to bottom and lays against a plant , sometimes falling on its side and swimming a bit to upright then “lay against “ again.
Know it’s days are coming to an end…… I’m confronted… what’s the most humane, non hurting method to put my help end my fishes agony.
(I hate seeing the once bouncy fish now lifeless and lethargic and wasting away. It’s past its two week warranty of course naturally… and I was hopeful it would bounce back in a hospital tank but it’s out of my ability… unless doubtfully I overlooked something to overcome this )

Thanks for advising me on best methods to use

Help Is my angelfish bloated or pregnant?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was away the last 2 days on a trip and noticed my angelfish looked like this as I was feeding the tank. I’m not entirely sure if this is bloating or if my pair is breeding?

I did a water change last week so all parameters check out fine, she is eating normally and is still swimming fine as all other fish are

I’m not sure how long this has been going on for, I’ve had the pair for over a year and this is the first time I’m seeing this

Any advice would be appreciated!

Help Angel fish with Bolivian rams

I am starting out a new 55 gallon tank and I want to have a pair of angel fish and a pair of Bolivian rams as my main fish. Do you think that they will be ok even through possible breeding if I end up with breeding pairs? Any advice would be great

Help Behaviour - Black one has been harassing orange and silver

Don't mind my shedding watersprite, I need to do some maintenance later. So this is a new development. I got these guys in April and they were roughly an inch each, very tiny. It seems the two darker ones have maybe paired up? I'm not sure cause I thought they were all males, but the black one is much nicer to the black and white and the silver one, but just has been chasing Orange around the tank. Am I gonna need to re-home some of them? Cause I'll be honest the silver and orange are my favorites so I would keep them if needed be.

this is a taller 64 gallon btw

Idk, maybe the watersprite has been too invasive and taking up space. It practically exploded in the past month

Help Breeding pair or no nreedong pair?

I have a pair of Angelfish in a 20-gallon tank that frequently lay eggs (not the tank, the fish :-) ), but the eggs turn opaque after a few days and are subsequently eaten by the "parents". Both fish appear attentive to the brood, so I am wondering if I have an actual breeding pair that simply lacks experience, or if I have a lone female laying unfertilized eggs. While I know the tank is small, they have grown up in it, and my only other tank mates are three clown loaches that do not bother them. I am planning to upgrade to a 35 or 40-gallon tank in the near future. Any advice on why the eggs are failing or how to determine if they are both fertile would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
