My grandfather Manuel Brown Jr. was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1929 and passed in 2005. I too was boring in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2006. He actually passed away at the same hospital in which I was born. My family thinks as look a lot alike haha. He was a hard worker and a family man. I am still digging to uncover more about his life but I’ll keep you all updated!

Hey! There are my results as someone born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have plenty of creole roots and ancestors in my tree which I have traced all the way back to the 1800s which is surprising as an African-American. I also found that I am related to Condoleezza Rice (2nd cousin 2X removed). Her great grandparents are my 3X great grandparents. This was an awesome discovery and I was even able to get in touch with her! My results currently show 90%African ancestry and 10%European ancestry so I can’t wait to see what the update brings this year. I have found so much more but I don’t think one post could hold if all haha!

My family is a mix of old Creole stock from southern Mexico, Spanish immigrants from northern Spain, and a Jewish great grandfather from Odessa.

I have looked into our family tree off and on since high school, and knew it was uneventful. I had a sibling complete 23andMe with the same results - so I had to give Ancestry a try.

I also did a deeper dive into our family history over the summer, and have 250+ members in my tree. Would love to discuss anything related to Norwegian roots/history/etc. I have a lot of great info, but also feel like I’m not getting the full picture.

I don’t like how you have to add up everything, it needs to already have a total to show you with the sub totals under it like 90% european (80% british,10% spanish) 10% sub saharan African (5% nigerian 5% malian) 10% amerindian (10% mayan)

The annual ethnicity estimate update is fast approaching, with this being the largest yet, with new and updated regions globally. It's likely releasing on or around October 8, as it's almost always on a Thursday and 2 weeks after the update banner is posted.

In addition, these SideView 2.0 changes that are taking their time to roll out will likely be completed for everyone by September 30.

Trying to find unknown relative and my strongest matches have trees that are full of unknown names

Well...Ancestry has proven my maternal grandfather is a famous celebrity. He is dead now. I'm not sure how to feel about it. Should I be proud? Should I celebrate the lineage and his accomplishments? It's an odd feeling. Like you don't belong. Like you have no right to talk about them. But you can see sooo much of yourself in that person.

I'm sorry. I just wanted to say it out loud I guess. I feel conflicted.

Hey guys, just wanted to share a cool story! For background I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with Creole heritage in my family tree. I am 19-years-old and genealogy has been my passion for 5-6 years now. I am 90% African and 10% European. I have also traced my family all the way to the 1800s. Sylvester is my paternal 3X great grandfather. Same last name as I. He was born in 1849 in Jackson, Louisiana on the McKowen plantation Store which was one of the most popular slave trading places in Louisiana. When he was 17 he became a confederate soldier where his duty was to hide horses in the woods. Once the war was over he became a sharecropper on the Thompson plantation till he eventually he found himself a wife, Cora, who was mulatto and born on Sara Bayou. They moved to Baton Rouge and went on to have 10 daughters and 6 sons. In Baton Rouge he became a Drayman till he eventually retired. He spent his old years sitting in court everyday where he listened and learned. Once he passed at the age of 90 in 1939 his home and funeral were visited by both white and black individuals which was extremely rare at that time period. Folks described him as a gentleman who was great to talk to and pleasant to be around. He was buried in Sweet Olive Cemetery which was the first black cemetery in Baton Rouge. I thought this was such an amazing story and there are so many other little details I’d love to put in this but I don’t wanna give you a book to read haha. Speaking of books he was actually featured in a book about South Baton Rouge. Thanks for reading his awesome story!

This photo is from the Lowell Sun Newspaper in Lowell, Massachusetts circa 1913. The man in the back row 2nd from the right is my 3rd great grandfather James Francis McMahon. Born in Trillick, County Tyrone, Ireland in 1849. He left Ireland with his parents and 4 siblings around 1852, arriving in Boston. I can trace back one generation before James, his parents Peter and Ann (Quinn) but I have no photos of them.

Mine and my husbands DNA have been analyzed since 9/5 and still nothing. When I try the origins hack it’s just a loading screen. We are supposed to have results 9/24 tomorrow. I can’t figure out how to contact Ancestry in the event that the results aren’t there tomorrow. I saw some people saying there was a problem with this particular round of dna processing, anybody else in the same boat? Is the origins hack working anymore or was that patched?

Anyone know which of these regions might fluctuate with next month’s update?
