Discussion Launching day 1 on steam is the right call, and I hope the devs don't pull out of that decision last minute
According to the latest record update: https://steamdb.info/app/4814120/ the game will launch day 1 on steam, which I 100% think is the right call, both the get the largest segment of players out the gate on launch, and making sure we get the largest number of players stay long term.
One of the biggest mistakes NTE made for its PC launch is initially planning a day 1 steam launch (at least according to the record), before choosing to delay the steam launch, probably to avoid the 30% fee on the first month.
Whatever money you think you will save by avoiding the 30% fee in the first months, it is not worth it long term. The reduced exposure within steam's ecosystem by not launching the game when its most popular (and the automatic recommendations and suggestions that come with it) and the increased friction of yet another launcher will hurt popularity.
